Proverbs Chapter 30

Proverbs 30

1The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,

2Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.

3I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

4Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?

5Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

6Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

7Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

8Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

9Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

10Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

11There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

12There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

13There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

14There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

15The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:

16The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.

17The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

18There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:

19The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.

20Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

21For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:

22For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;

23For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.

24There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:

25The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

26The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

27The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;

28The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.

29There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:

30A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;

31A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.

32If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

33Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

  1. Every word of God is pure;He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him.
    No matter the situation or circumstance I want to always trust in God’s word! So funny how we sometimes tend to choose the battles or problems in our lives that we want to either give to the Lord or put it in our own hands. I want to be consistent in my trust for theLord.

  2. 28The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.

    I must work for the good things. Kings don’t like lazy people they want wise people so put ur self to working reading

  3. 18There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:
    19The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.

    This is what stood out to me. These are, like the scripture said, wonderful to me.

  4. I love the practicality of this chapter. Im encouraged to look at the world around me for little lessons that God has placed in creation. There must be more than just the way of the eagle, who teaches us to glide above our problems on the current of God’s will. The ant who shows us diligence and discipline are worth it. The conies who live in a place of protection in the rocks.

    The locusts are united with no leader, and sometimes people cant unite when being led.

    I wonder what other lessons we can learn from God’s creation.

  5. v8-9 One of the things that is always questioned when I am teaching EGW is why Israel continued to turn her back on God. Why when He had just delivered them from a humanly impossible situation did they forsake His Law. The Msg Version says that when everything seems to be going our way we can become too independant and convince ourselves that we don’t need God. My prayer is that the more God blesses me the more I will praise Him! And the more I praise Him the more He blesses. It’s a win-win situation.

  6. vs “11There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. 12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. 13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. 14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.”… This sounds like todays generation with the lawlessness that society teaches. We must be the church and strive to teach whats right and we must lead by example too.

  7. We see the example of the ant, coonies, locust and spider and the instinct God placed in them as small creatures to provide for themselves, and take care of themselves. We the humans he created have not only the same instincts but the right to choose those things that we need to survive. Lord, help us to choose the godly things, the things that will mature us spiritually rather than the things that please the eye or our flesh and distract from our purpose to BE CHURCH!

  8. God created everything with a purpose and with a lesson. I know there is so much we can learn from His creations. There is wisdom in everything He does and in everything He says. Like Pastor always say, Jesus said it, I believe it.!!!!

  9. Vs 8 & 9-give me neither poverty nor riches, but what is convenient for me (or what I need)

    We wonder why God doesn’t answer our every prayer when we ask for this and that. Could it be that if we gained it-it would cause us to not need God? Or cause us to relax and let up serving God because we have all our wants and needs taken care of?

    The Lord knows true needs and supplies them. He weighs our desires to see if we really need them or not! Trust Him if the answer to your prayer turns out to be “No”.

  10. V32 seems to tie in with what was taught last night about fasting: “If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.”

    In that last phrase “lay thine hand upon thy mouth” the word for hand is #3027 “yad” meaning a hand, specifically an open one to signify power, means, direction, etc. It seems to me the meaning in the phrase is “exercise your self-control/self-discipline/take authority over yourself to stop speaking/putting out things which are not good.” This is placed as the proper response to having “done foolishly in lifting up thyself” and thinking evil (indicating there is sin, or separation from God, in the heart as the meditation of the heart is not clean.)

    Matt 15:18 “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.” Fasting (as Pastor taught last night, in the O.T. is #6685 tsowm, meaning literally “to cover over (the mouth)”) is a means of humbling ourselves before the Lord and getting back in line with His will. Fasting denies the flesh and gives an avenue of opportunity for us to become clean from those things within that defile us.

    The verse comes from a portion in Matthew that gives insight into fasting; Jesus spells it out, it’s not about the actual food per say, it’s about the concept “bad in, bad out” concerning inner defilement. In the same way, fasting is not about the restricting of food in, it’s about the consecrating of ourselves in the inner man so that we harbor nothing unclean within and thus produce nothing unclean without, preparing ourselves as vessels clean, separated unto God, prepared for His use and glory.

  11. This chapter speaks a lot about a wicked generation who is right in their own eyes, sounds a lot like today’s generation when so many foolishly say there is no God and so many do their own thing regardless. This chapter also talks about wonderful, wise, and things that go well. Each example is found in the natural order that God created things from the eagle to the man with a maid, from the lion to the kings reign. The things that are listed that disquiet the earth and it cannot bear are all examples of mankind putting things out of order.

    Could this wicked generation be helped if we just step back and learn from the very order God established in the beginning that has never faltered?

    Gods will and order are perfect. And this chapter also gives us a consequence for stepping out of order, one of many:
    17The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

  12. This chapter tells me to be humble and pray. V 1-4, pray for understanding and wisdom during times of trials. God will provide an answer, just keep asking, and you’ll hear his voice.

  13. This chapter speaks of the importance of obeying your parents and respecting them. Young people you should not bring shame to your parents by disobeying them. Honor them and God will bless you.

  14. Vs. 4, “Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?
    I’m glad to know his name. His name is JESUS.

  15. All this chapter has is encouraging to my life,but the verse 7,8,9 are my favorites. it encourages me even more to talk with Jesus.

  16. v5 says that every word of God is pure. God’s word is the purest thing anyone can find. We need the uncontaminated word in our lives. The word of God can bring you through things that you thought were impossible. Thank God for his unchanging word.

  17. This chapter describes a lazy, wicked, unrighteous and un-Godly generation, which we are that generation. We have forgotten the things that are truly important; God, Family, Church and Friends. Our generation is all about what can you give me; for free, for little work, for little effort. We should look at our past generations; they worked hard, they earned their keep by the sweat of their brow, they gave to others, they helped the needy, they helped the widows and they helped their neighbor. We (I) need to repent and pray for God’s mercy and grace, dear Lord Jesus help us (me) and forgive us (me) of our (my) slothful and un-Godly ways. We pray that the good Lord Jesus Blesses you all

  18. Verse 5 (CEV) says….Everything God says is true–and it’s a shield for all who come to him for safety. I am so thankful I know who the One True God is! It is our job now to share that truth with others.

  19. Chapter 30 seems to have an urgency to communicate the message making good choices through applying the wisdom gained from much of Gods other great creations such as insects.

    A lifelong journey is identified in verse 7 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

    MSG versions makes it clear.

    1. Banish lies from my lips and liars from my presence.

    2. Give me enough food to live on, neither too much nor too little. If I’m too full, I might get independent, saying, ‘God? Who needs him?’
    If I’m poor, I might steal and dishonor the name of my God.”

    Honesty and humility are the 2 desires that we must possess to BE Church.

  20. Everything that God created has a purpose, and everything that he put on earth he put here for us. I believe that in every natural occurrence on earth there is some type of lesson to be learned. Earlier in the book of Proverbs we found that a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands is all it takes to miss out on wisdom all together and be counted a fool! Learn a lesson from the ant… work, labor, prepare, purpose yourself.

  21. 12There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

    wow, how can this be? how can you be pure in your own eyes? Surely you would know right… the word of God is what reveals the truth of the heart. Help us Lord to get a hunger for the Word

  22. God does provide our needs we choose to do things wrong by stealing or having jealousy in our hearts. Help us lord to be honest & a good witness before you

  23. I just wrote a blog post with verses 18 & 19 as the theme. I found this blog under the related articles section. . .pop over to my blog and read the one titled “little nuggets #2 ‘the way of a man” if you get a chance. Proverbs has really been on my mind lately, specifically verses from this chapter. Neat idea to just post the word and see how people react to it in your comment section. Good for you!
