Psalms Chapter 119:71 – 119

71It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

72The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

73Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.

74They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.

75I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.

76Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.

77Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.

78Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.

79Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies.

80Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.

81My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.

82Mine eyes fail for thy word, saying, When wilt thou comfort me?

83For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I not forget thy statutes.

84How many are the days of thy servant? when wilt thou execute judgment on them that persecute me?

85The proud have digged pits for me, which are not after thy law.

86All thy commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help thou me.

87They had almost consumed me upon earth; but I forsook not thy precepts.

88Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth.

89For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

90Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

91They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.

92Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.

93I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.

94I am thine, save me: for I have sought thy precepts.

95The wicked have waited for me to destroy me: but I will consider thy testimonies.

96I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.

97O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

98Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.

99I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

100I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

101I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.

102I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.

103How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

105Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

106I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.

107I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word.

108Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD, and teach me thy judgments.

109My soul is continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law.

110The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.

111Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

112I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end.

113I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.

114Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.

115Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.

116Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.

117Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.

118Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes: for their deceit is falsehood.

119Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.

120My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.

121I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors.

122Be surety for thy servant for good: let not the proud oppress me.

123Mine eyes fail for thy salvation, and for the word of thy righteousness.

124Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes.

  1. In this portion of Psalms 119 we find many fruitful sayings regarding the value of the WORD of GOD.

89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Is there ANY thing in life more absolute? NO!

We should live our lives according to this verse, finding wisdom, direction, correction and inspiration from the SETTLED WORD OF GOD. We must stop trusting in temporal things in this world.

BE the Word of GOD to BE Church.

  2. I love vs. 105 – “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” I praise God for his word today. It strengthens me, encourages me, lifts me up, directs me, and corrects me, so that, I might follow his commandments and live by his precepts. 2 Tim. 3:16 reads, ” All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” Truely, his word lights my pathway to him.

  3. Wow this couldnt get any clearer THE WORD is never changing follow it & you have the knowledge you need when anything tries to come against you

  4. The MSG version verse 73 says “With your very own hands you formed me; now breathe your wisdom over me so I can understand you. When they see me waiting, expecting your Word, those who fear you will take heart and be glad. I can see now, God, that your decisions are right; your testing has taught me what’s true and right. Oh, love me—and right now!—hold me tight! just the way you promised. Now comfort me so I can live, really live; your revelation is the tune I dance to.”

God has created us and can breathe the wisdom into our lives through His word, for every situation that we face, and we have the His promises that He will be there to love us and hold us through those tests, and bring us revelation during that time about ourselves to encourage us to be better saints.

  5. Not matter what is befalling us in life, we must praise God and understand that what is happening is for our ultimate good. If we trust in God and follow his commandments and statues what those around us do to us will not affect our relationship with God and we will ultimately be the winner.

  6. It is very clear to me that the law, the Word, His precepts are what keep us. These things are possibly the voucher for lovingkindness and tender mercies. How can one expect tender mercies if one cannot love the “Word of thy mouth,” or learn to delight in the law. Affliction seems small in the Reflection of his Goodness!

  7. Keep His commandments and stay true to His word so that when test and trials come you will then have strength, wisdom, knowledge and the help of the Lord to overcome!

  8. when we keep our hope in His word, the joy that is found only in Him – regardless of circumstances – flows out to those around us as they witness His faithfullness in our lives.

  9. Verse 114 says….Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. The Message Version says…..You’re my place of quiet retreat; I wait for your Word to renew me. We need a daily dose of God’s Word to renew us every day.

  10. I love vs. 80 thiis has alot of meaning to me – Help me to love your every wish then i will never have to be ashamed of myself

  11. Verse 100 I understand more than the ancients... Because of Gods word we can more wisdom and knowledge than Einstien! WOW! says:

    Verse 100

  12. What encouragement these verses are.
Vs 114-He is truly my hiding place-I am so thankful God has a place where we can hide and let the storms & trials pass over us.
My hope istruly in his word! We have so many promises in his word!
Vs 117-Hold me up and I shall be save!! Thank you for your word because it truly is a light unto my path.

  13. v 89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Because the God’s word has been settledd we have the power over the enemy. The word is the most powerful weapon a saint can use against the enemy. Let the devil know that you have power over him & everything he throws at you.

  14. This chapter is so powerful it provides an example of prayer, which all can relate too. It makes one want to repent, for a lax attitude and not enough prayer. We (I) must submit ourselves (myself) just as he gave of himself to us if we (I) want to see his face. Lord forgive us (me) of our (my) unworthiness, thank you for your precious blood and saving grace of which no one (I) is worthy. Thank you to all that post you are an inspiration to us!

  15. God’s word is true and wonderful. Stay true to God and his Word no matter how bad the world becomes. Obedience to God’s law is the only way to achieve real happiness.

v 105 To walk safely at night we need a light so we don’t trip and fall. In this life, we walk through a dark forest of evil, but the Bible can be our light to show us the way ahead so we won’t stumble as we walk. It reveals the entangling roots of false values and philosophies. We should study the Bible so we will be able to see our way clear enough to stay on the right path.

  16. A wise man keeps the commandments of His word. He rejoices when the Word of God corrects him and does not become offended. A wise man fears God and hates. Evil. This chapter speaks volumes.

  17. 97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

What I once saw as an incovenience, now I love as a blessing. I pray I may never depart from His word and commandments!!! God created everything so very perfect from His creation of the earth, heaven, and everything in it, to His Law & word. Let Your word guide me through this world and Your Law keep me in Your path.

  18. Again and again these verses claim the love for the law. The attraction that he has to the law seems to be a result of the love he has for God himself. So should we be, that we love God and His word and want to keep His commandments. Many benefits come to those who do so.

  19. I love the passion of David. He says thank you Lord for every test and teach me more.
My soul is continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law.
He realizes and encourages us throught this passage that we all can make the choice to sin, but we don’t because of our obedience to God.

  20. Vs 101 says he refrained from every evil way that he may keep God’s word-
This encourages me to be watchful of each step I take, because if I go down an evil way it keeps me from hearing God’s truth.
    Thy word is truth.

  21. 119:89-91 God’s sovereign and unchanging word governs and maintains all creation .(These first three verses of the second half of the psalm teach a general truth; cf. vv.1-3.)

  22. 71It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH SOME GREAT CALAMITY IN ORDER TO LEARN GODS WAYS?
