Psalms 119: 120 – 176

120My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.

121I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors.

122Be surety for thy servant for good: let not the proud oppress me.

123Mine eyes fail for thy salvation, and for the word of thy righteousness.

124Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes.

125I am thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies.

126It is time for thee, LORD, to work: for they have made void thy law.

127Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.

128Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.

129Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them.

130The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

131I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.

132Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.

133Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

134Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts.

135Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes.

136Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.

137Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments.

138Thy testimonies that thou hast commanded are righteous and very faithful.

139My zeal hath consumed me, because mine enemies have forgotten thy words.

140Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

141I am small and despised: yet do not I forget thy precepts.

142Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.

143Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.

144The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.

145I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes.

146I cried unto thee; save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies.

147I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.

148Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

149Hear my voice according unto thy lovingkindness: O LORD, quicken me according to thy judgment.

150They draw nigh that follow after mischief: they are far from thy law.

151Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.

152Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.

153Consider mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget thy law.

154Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word.

155Salvation is far from the wicked: for they seek not thy statutes.

156Great are thy tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me according to thy judgments.

157Many are my persecutors and mine enemies; yet do I not decline from thy testimonies.

158I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word.

159Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O LORD, according to thy lovingkindness.

160Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

161Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word.

162I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.

163I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.

164Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments.

165Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

166LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments.

167My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly.

168I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies: for all my ways are before thee.

169Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word.

170Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word.

171My lips shall utter praise, when thou hast taught me thy statutes.

172My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.

173Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts.

174I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.

175Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.

176I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

  1. This passage of Scriptures touches me because it is though he is praying to God & thanking him at the same time for his mercy & rightgeousness vs. 143 kinda stuck out for me “Trouble and anguish have taken hold of me yet thy commandments are my delights.” Lord help me to keep thy commmandments and stay pure in my heart that I would be a good whitness to the world. Be Church

  2. v176 ” I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant for I have not forgotten your commandments.” This verse prompted me to think of those who once had a relationship with Jesus and have now wandered . But scripture says that once you have known Truth– it is not forgotten. Let’s BE CHURCH by praying that those who have strayed will “hear” the voice of God seeking them and return to that right relationship with Him.

  3. Over and over again David reiterates his love and passion for the Word, law and statutes of God. Oh Lord, how we need to love your Word more than anything and have that desire and hunger to daily hear what you speak to us, and then follow what you advise.

  4. I could write a book today!!!!

This portion of chapter 119 really ignites a flame of passion in my heart for the WORD of GOD. Verse 162 I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. It is like finding the answer in a study book, you know you have it correct so you rejoice. We should simply rejoice over what GOD has stated in HIS WORD, and leave the details, who, how, what, when, and where to GOD.

Verse 158 gives a good gauge of how to determine our spiritual passion; 158 I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word. It should grieve us to watch others sin and throw bible teaching and knowledge out the window; this is why most books, magazines, movies, tvshows grieve the spirit of GOD, because they promote transgression.

I will stop with verse 164 Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments. If you cannot find anything else to praise GOD for; Praise HIM for HIS WORD! 66 books to give thanks for.

  5. Vs 147-148 challenges me to want this kind of experience in bible reading, to become so enveloped, enthralled, and overtaken, that time just slips away, it’s just the word and I.

  6. Great verses. It lets me know God will judge me and not man. Verse 145-152, I know I can call out to the Lord, and he will listen to my voice reaching out to him. Knowing God is just a prayer away, should make us feel good, and not dependent on materialist things, money or psychiatrists for help.

  7. Great verses. It lets me know God will judge me and not man. Verse 145-152, I know I can call out to the Lord, and he will listen to my voice reaching out to him. Knowing God is just a prayer away, should make us feel good, and not dependent on materialist things, money or psychiatrists for help.

  8. David found joy in the fact that he knew God’s word and that he kept it. Should we not rejoice in the fact that we too have the chance to keep God’s commands? How many times do we look at God’s word as a rule book rather than an explaination of the blessings of boundaries? God’s word is to teach and encourage us. David got that.

vs 158, David was grieved when he saw others in sin. There have been times I have truely hurt because of the sin that I saw my friends involved in. There also have been times that I thought about joining them just because it looked fun… I rejoice in the fact that I didn’t, that I chose to keep God’s word and not fall into temptation. I rejoice in the fact that I’m forgiven for the times that I did fail to keep His word. And I’m hopefull in the fact that I’ll get to help someone else keep His word someday too.

  9. 174I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.

175Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.

Judge us now so that we can be helped. Let us be the church with joy.

  10. David speaks so much adoration for the Lord and his word, states how he follows his word, meditates upon it; yet asks for his mercy, fears judgement & desires salvation.

To me David is expressing his love and passion to follow God-yet knowing he fails at times and still needs his forgiveness and mercy.

David knows his help comes from the Lord and he renews his commitment to him.

Everyday I need God’s help, forgiveness and mercy- yet I love him and his word and his ways! I love this life living for him. And like David, I too fear his judgements and desire his salvation! These verses are a wonderful prayer.

  11. David’s love for our Lords words and his desire to please Him everyday is so great that I can see why God delights on him. I want to hunger for His word daily, and want to seek more and more of Him, so my Faith may grow, let me be aware of His judgement so I may never depart from His love.

  12. I love verse 161 and 162. There is something so amazing about the word of God and his promises that it does two things. First it causes you to forger any hard times or trials that you may face, and second it causes you to rejoice!!! Thank God!!

  13. v 160 One of God’s characteristics is truthfulness. He embodies perfect truth; therefore, his Word cannot lie. It is true and dependable for guidance and help. The Bible is completely true and trustworthy. God is our only security in a changing world. Whatever may happen in this world, God remains forever changeless. If we trust him, we are absolutely secure, because we stand on the firmest foundation in the universe – Jesus Christ.

  14. Verse 176 (Message Version)….. And should I wander off like a lost sheep—seek me! I’ll recognize the sound of your voice. We need to be passionately into God’s Word so that we will not forget the sound of his voice.

  15. My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgements. A big problem in our generation todays is no fear. It’s a scary day when a country that used to fear God has become fearless of God. It’s even scarier to know that it is bleeding over into the church! We can change that…BE CHURCH.

  16. Vs. 140, “Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.” Vs. 160, “Thy word is true from the beginning…” Vs.162, ” I rejoice at they word, as one that findeth great spoil.” I just want to say that I love to the word of God. It is pure and true, and a treasure to me.

  17. 136Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.

Tonight in prayer I began to weep over close friends, even some that studied with me in college, that have been so quickly removed from the faith. God’s law has not changed, nor has his Word. The reason, I believe, that God’s word is more precious than “precious metals and stones,” is not because of what it can purchase but what it can preserve. Jesus’ blood has already purchased us… But His Word will preserve our souls. Earthly wealth and fortune cannot preserve even themselves. BUY THE TRUTH… SELL IT NOT!

  18. Vs 127 “…I love thy commandments…” Commandments are things that God has ordered. To love the things that God has commanded is so important and to remember they are there to help. I need to love each command He has given.

  19. Love for the law and word continues.162I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.163I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.164Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments.
I believe these verses sum it up. Especially, great peace have they which love thy law and nothing shall offend them.

  20. v133…Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

I want God to guide my feet everyday. I know that as long as he’s leading me and I follow, the enemy can not lead me astray.

  21. This chapter shows how we should reverence God. It also shows how we should earnestly pray for those that are blind.

Great is thy mercy O’Lord to save a wretch like me. Praise be to Jesus for choosing us from all the lost souls in the world, great is thine grace.
