Proverbs Chapter 22

Proverbs 22

1A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

2The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

3A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

4By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

5Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

6Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

7The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

8He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

9He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

11He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

12The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

13The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

14The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

15Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

17Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

18For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

19That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

20Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

21That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

22Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

23For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

24Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

26Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

27If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

29Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

  1. The rich snd poor meet together the Lord is the maker of the all

God made everyone we shouldn’t put others down because they don’t have much money but be happ y with them with what they have

  2. v2 “The rich and the poor meet together; the Lord is the Maker of them all.” I once heard a Pastor say that “the ground is level at the foot of the cross.” To BE CHURCH we must remember that this Truth is for all. Should we feel otherwise, it is sin against the Creator.

  3. vs 17 “Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.”… I know many times growing up and even now, I find myself asking my elders (including my dad), because they do know more than I do. I only wish that I hadn’t waited until my twenties to decide I wasn’t quite as smart as I thought I was.

vs 12 “The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.” …Christ wants us to grow in His knowledge and in His truth.

  4. Verse 1 speaks to me. The NIV “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” Jesus is a name we all can identify with. His name brings hope, healing, courage, strength, provider, etc. Being rich wont bring any spiritual healing, but having Jesus, and calling on his NAME will.

  5. In chapter 22 we find the formula for promotion in verse 29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. If we are diligent in our business opportunity will be before us for promotion; so many people want to take a shortcut and attempt to promote themselves, consistent hard work will always present opportunity.

Verse 28 tells us how selfish it is to move boundaries set by our elders. It will affect us but it will affect our children greater. We need to foster a great RESPECT for the boundaries that have been set.

  6. 24Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Beware of who you befriend!!!! This include Facebook, My Space, etc. Bad habits are learned faster than good ones, and you dont even notice what you are picking up. Be kind and respectful, lead by example, but do not give yourself to such friendships. A lot of times we are defined with whom we hang with.

  7. 28Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set is forever ringing in my spirit. There are landmarks being removed on a daily basis all across the country in lives of individuals who once feared the Lord. Lord, help POFW to continue to be Apostolic in all manners and to not let the landmarks that were paid for with blood, sweat and tears be torn down to please our flesh. Helps us to keep the disciplines in place to ensure our safety and entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven.

  8. Verse 2 (Message Version) says….The rich and the poor shake hands as equals— God made them both! This verse reminds me of our church in Kansas….our Pastor always, always stated “There is room in the House of God for Everybody”.

  9. Vs. 1&2, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.”

What is in a name? It’s better to be a man with a good reputation and integrity than to be rich. God made the rich and poor alike. No one is better than another, because God is no respector of person.

  10. vs. 3 says a man must foresee and prepare for difficulties. This is a good vs. to learn from on past mistake or failures. By preparing my self to past the next test of difficulties that come my way.

  11. A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.
To have a good name is to have favor. Like in the last chapter, when the son is known because of his father’s name, we as the children of the Father have the Father’s name to uphold.
The reason why I say this is because christians have a bad rap now days, and as a true christian, we have to clean up that which has been tarnished, and that is the name of JESUS.
Most people think all churches want now days is money, and we need to show them the “Good Name.”

  12. 4By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Humillity is not just a virtue but the key to all virtues. Humility is the opposite of pride, which is the root of all sin. Pride makes you poor, dishonoured, and brings death. Humility is the proper perspective of ourselves in God’s sight. The fear of the Lord will always acconpaby true humility. Because humility is not seeing ourselves low, but seeing him as he truly is. Isaiah 6

  13. Let me try again! In vs 6 we have such a great promise as parents and teachers-the reward is to see the life of these children not depart from the teachings of God’s word.

vs 4-Thank you Pastor for preaching against pride and a know it all attitude. Vs 4 teaches humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor & life. That’s all I need-to have a humble & contrite spirit.

  14. Train up a child in the way it should go. I pray that God helps us to lead our children in the fear of God and to put in them valuable lessons they will never forget.

  15. Train up a child in the way it should go. I pray that God helps us to lead our children in the fear of God and to put in them valuable lessons they will never forget..

  16. This chapter instructs us to be; obedient, trustworthy, loyal and kind. We are known by our deeds and our actions, while a person might hide things for a season the true heart will show itself. If we obey the word of the Lord and honor Godly anointed leaders we will live a fulfilling life, which our children will see and know where to turn/re-turn for true happiness. Youth makes one believe we know all and have all the answers, which is unwise. Age shows us just how much we don’t know, which is the beginning of wisdom. May Jesus Bless you all.

  17. 1A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold. This proverb points out that reputation has more worth than possessions or wealth. A name cannot be replaced easily, not even with money.

  18. V24,25 The Bible exhorts us to be cautious in our choice of companions. We need to choose people with qualities we would like to develop in our own lives.

  19. v13 “The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.” In my mind, I toyed with looking for the inverse statement to this. Perhaps “The diligent man saith, The Lion of the tribe of Judah is within me, if God be for me, who can be against me?”

Prov 28:1 “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” We can have boldness through Jesus so that even in the face of adversity, even in the face of matters where we are weak, we have strength and confidence in Him. 2 Cor 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

  20. I’m fearful for my generation, so quick to remove “ancient landmarks,” boundaries, and protections for our destiny because it’s not “attractive,” or “seeker friendly.” We must be apostolic; to be apostolic we must be wise in our decisions… don’t move the landmark if you don’t know why it was placed there.

  21. What’s in a name and what do people think of first when they hear yours? A name gives a face of someone. I know when we were looking for a name for Celeste AJ or I would say a name and then we would think automatically of someone we knew…now whether it was good or bad we won’t go there but it definitely either ended up on the list to choose from or was marked with a big X.I want a name that screams holy, Godly, and anything else that reflects the God I serve!

  22. v. 24 Association with an angry hot-tempered man is bad business. It often makes a man become like the company he keeps .This can really be a sabecouse in a monent a man con ruin his life and testimony.

  23. 3A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

HAVE YOU EVER FELT THAT STRONG PRESENCE OF GOD GIVING YOU A STRONG WARNING TO DO, OR NOT TO DO SOMETHING??? BE WISE AND LISTEN TO THAT VOICE

  24. v6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

I found this scripture to be so true. Not matter how your children turn out later on in life, they can never depart from the teachings of truth that a parent instills within them. You can’t run from truth, it will always be around.

  25. This chapter is exactly what I have told my old friends about how Im trying to live for God now. I dont want to hear the cussing or dirty jokes needless to say I dont hear from them anymore. True friends would respect my life choice now but I feel it is that they feel convicted in their hearts
