Proverbs Chapter 24

Proverbs 24

1Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

2For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

3Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:

4And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

5A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

6For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

7Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

8He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

9The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

10If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

11If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

12If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

13My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:

14So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

15Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

16For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

17Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

18Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

19Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:

20For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

21My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

22For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

23These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

24He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:

25But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

26Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

27Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

28Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.

29Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

30I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

32Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

33Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

34So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

  1. Vs. 10 When trials come they show us spiritualy what we are made of. It is in those days of adversity we should remain strong.

  2. v 11-12 An old hymn says “Rescue the perishing. Care for the dying” A MUST in order to BE CHURCH! People are spiritually perishing all around us. This scripture says there is no excuse for negligence. We can’t just pretend that we don’t see the lost and dying. God knows our heart.

  3. We find a vivid description of what our life looks like to Jesus when we are slothful in our relationship with him. The Message version says in verse 30-34 One day I walked by the field of an old lazybones, and then passed the vineyard of a lout; They were overgrown with weeds, thick with thistles, all the fences broken down. I took a long look and pondered what I saw; the fields preached me a sermon and I listened: “A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there, sit back, take it easy—do you know what comes next. Just this: You can look forward to a dirt-poor life, with poverty as your permanent houseguest!”

This is a description of the Spiritual state of individuals that do not pray, read their bible and faithfully attend worship services. Lets be intentional with our lives and be on purpose to BE Church.

  4. Deliver people from death, because if you ignore people suffering in sin, and sickness, depression and all kind of pain the Lord ponder the hearts, we have to be prepare every day with the Holy Ghost and be sensible to the pain around us, because we are the body of Christ: We are his mouth, his eyes, his hands, and his feet. Be ready to be His Church. In Jesus name.

  5. One version quotes v. 3 like this: it takes wisdom to have a good family and it takes understanding to make it strong. Wisdom in itself is a great responsibility and it makes one accountable. The Lord does not grant wisdom to individuals for the sake of granting one wisdom but that for the sake of enhancing, building, and teaching others. This is why, I believe, Solomon says many times throughout this great book not to envy wickedness or evil men. Their hearts, intentions, thoughts, conversations, plans, even life is evil. These things to no build anyone up but rather in the end they destroy. I desire to seek wisdom, find it, use it, and build a strong family!

  6. 10If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
We were built for this! Let not the enemy tear you down and make you weak. God gives strength to those that believe and walk in His ways. Don’t give place to the devil…he only laughs at your weakness! It says at the beginning of the chapter…1Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. Desiring to be apart of and serve the enemy is foolish. He hates you and wants nothing more for you to fail in this life so that he may have your soul eternally. Show those that are lost in sin the way to a better life in Christ..BE CHURCH!

  7. Vs. 10 says, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” This reminds me of the people in Mark 4, when the word was sown on stony ground. When the times of affliction and persecution came, they fell away, because they were offended. We need our hearts to be good ground for God’s word to be sown into, so that we will stand during the times of adversity. We need to remember that God made us more than conquerors.

  8. The field of the slothful and the vineyard of the man void of understanding …… to BE CHURCH in the Apostolic manner that God desires us to be, we must work the field on a daily basis. We continually pass by people who need us to be Jesus to them.

  9. 10If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

The Joy of the Lord is my strength so I will rejoice no matter the situation.

  10. A wise person will not be jealous of a person in sin. While we all have sinned and no one is worthy except by the Blood of Jesus, we all must choose whom we will serve. If we are jealous of those that are in sin; i.e. Partying, liveing frivolously, pleaseing the flesh only, then we must repent or we will be the fool and we will be lost. We do this whenever we go along with the crowd when we know it is wrong.

We must read, pray and seek his (Jesus) face for ourselves and then for those that are blinded by satan. If we have Jesus than we truly are rich. May the Lord Bless you all.

  11. 16For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

As christians striving to do right; we forget that we are human. And as human we will fall. Now its what we do when we fall that makes the difference. The only Pure and Holy One is Jesus and He is Perfect.I can’t count how many times I’ve failed in a test or passed up an opprotunity: that is what I have failed in. And yet God is gracious enough to raise me up and set me straight. This is also another reason to not put your trust in man But in the True Living God. Let us BE a better CHURCH.

  12. you need to work hard, the riches you will recieve they might not be in this world but God sees your labor and will bless it. How can you be a witness unto others if on a daily basis you do not work for him and his kingdom. Actions speak louder than words, show your love for him ❤

  13. This chapter has alot to say it tells you not to follow or allow evil things ans people into your life, because they can drag you down. There’s also jealousy we shouldn’t be jealous of our brothers & sisters or even elder’s we should be wise and learn, listen and read his word and seek him.

  14. V15-16 “Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place: For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.”

The description here of the wicked man reminds me of a vulture who would want to circle above something that is fallen and wait for it to die so it can feast on what’s left. Yet this verse gives word to the vultures in life: it doesn’t matter if it looks like the just person is down for the count, don’t try to take anything from them because they’re getting back up.

Mark 3:27 “No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.” When we fall, the enemy may think (or try to deceive us to believe) we are taken care of and that’s that, but you’re only really defeated if you choose not to get back up. Micah 7:8 “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.”

  15. Times of trouble can be useful. They can show us who we really are, what kind of character we have developed, and they can help us grow stronger. When Jeremiah questioned God because the trouble he faced, God asked how he ever expected to face big challenges if the little ones tired him out. The trouble we have today is training us to be strong for more difficult situations we will face in the future.

  16. 17Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

18Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

This scripture goes against our human nature but when we put on God’s nature he is glorified. I want to please the Lord.

  17. 9The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

Just thinking about something foolish is sin…wow that is a revelation, I don’t guess Ive looked at it like that.

  18. vs 28,29 Under no circumstance shoud anyone bring false accusation against his neighbor or spead lies about him. Even if the neighbor has done thoes very thing’s , thers is no excuse for returing evil for evil.

  19. v7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

Fools will not understand wisdom. We must get as much wisdom as we can. A wise man will know the Lord, but a fool will despise every word of God.

  20. Verse 17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls;
when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice.
This is where a Christian lends an open hand, provides understanding, knowledge and gives a gentle answer. Love thy enemies and neighbor, as you love yourself.

  21. Vs 16-What a promise we have for when we do fall and fail God-it’s not ‘if’ but ‘when’ we fail becuase as we strive for perfection, we still get caught up in everyday life and can be tried or tempted and not pass the test! We still have this promise that we will get up and keep going!

What is it they say about being a champion? It’s not how many times you fall, it’s how many times you get up! Thank you Lord!

  22. vs “16For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief”… though I Fall I shall arise.

  23. This is why I love having a church to go to its where we are fed with the word & filled Spiritually & it gives us strength to deal with all the adversities that cross our paths
