Proverbs Chapter 28

Proverbs 28

1The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

2For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

3A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

4They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

5Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

6Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

7Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

8He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

9He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

10Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

11The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

12When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

13He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

14Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

15As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

16The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

17A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

18Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

19He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

20A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

21To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

22He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

23He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

24Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

25He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

26He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

27He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

28When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.

  1. He that truneth away his hear from hearing the Law even his prayers we be abomination.

We must always listen to God and his laws at all times

  2. Chapter 28 to me is simply 28 – 1 liners of wisdom, after reading through them 2 times I find that there is not room enough on here to comment. I will encourage everyone to read them 2 times.

Also verse 14 gives us great insight into happiness; 14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief. The NLT says 14 Blessed are those who fear to do wrong,[b] but the stubborn are headed for serious trouble.

We must possess the reverence of and for God that will Bless us by being tender hearted toward GOD in cautiously approaching life as to not offend GOD or HIS HOLY nature.

To BE Church we must fear GOD.

  3. v9 Msg “God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to Him” NIV “If any one turns a deaf ear to the law even his prayers are destestable.” David says in Psalms 66 that if he had cherished sin in his heart the Lord would not have listened but that God listened and heard his prayer. These verses say to me that before I begin my supplication to God I must first repent myself. I want my prayers to be heard by God not rejected by Him. To BE CHURCH my communication with God must be desirable not detestable.

  4. vs.12 When the godly are successful everone is glad. When the wicked succeed ever one is sad. This vs. reminds me of Pastor Watts teachings about when a brother or sister gets blessed others in the church should not get jelous.

  5. Verse 12 NIV-‘When the righteous triumph, there is great elation; but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.’ This occurs all the time.
You as a Christian, your workers are drawn to you, because you show honesty, support, and loyalty. But the unrighteous, workers stay away, dont trust you, and speak about you. God, keep me humble and righteous at times.

  6. v1The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. We have nothing to flee from when we stand on the word of God. When we share it, we give others the same leg to stand on that upholds us as believers. Let us reach out a helping hand rather than point fingers.

  7. Proverbs28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confeseth and forsakenth them shall have mercy.
I do not have problem confessing my sins, because when I was in depression The Lord showed me that he already knows them, sometimes it’s hard for us to recognize and even pronounce our sin we have committed. The bad news he already knows, the good news we can reach mercy!

  8. 20A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

Being faithful in something is more important than being known.Being faithful means integrety, longsuffering, patience, and a passion for what it is that your faithful to.Yet, alot of people have the “American Dream,” and want to get rich quick. If you ask Bill Gates or Warren Buffett, they will tell you that they didn’t get rich all of the sudden ,but it took faithfulness to be behind their ideas when others said it couldn’t be done.

  9. As in vs 23, I have a few friends whom I have been Dangerously honest with. Even to the point of putting our friendship on the line and tell them they were headed for the same trouble that I had been in before. Most of the time they are mad at me for it, but they quickly learn that I am a true friend and will tell the truth and they end up comming to me with more.

  10. Vs. 13. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
1 John 1:8 & 9. “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
All I want to say is that I’m thankful for the blood of Jesus Christ that washed away my sins. I’m so thankful for His mercy and grace.

  11. 9He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

This shows us how important repenting is when we begin to pray. How many prayers are not heard because of our own choices to sin and disobey his law. The bible says that in times past God winked at the ignorance of men but now commands all to repent. Our choices effect ourselves, others, and even our prayers for others.

  12. 3A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

To treat someone who is in the same boat as you are as though they are beneath you does absolutely no good to anyone, just cause damage and delay any good happening.

  13. v.13 tells me that we can hide our sin from people but God knows all and sees all. we are only hurting ourselves by not doing what we know is right and trying to hide, time to come out of the hiding and BE CHURCH

  14. 27He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
Let me not be cursed oh God but be blessed through blessing others in need.

  15. Vs 13 God and man cover sins? God covers our sin with his blood, man covers his sins with shame of hypocrisy. Wow confession is good for your soul!

  16. Vs. 22 desiring riches and seeking wealth to quickly can be risky and cause more greed. Let God bless u and watch his blessings!

  17. Vs 26-Trusting in our own hearts is foolish. Scripture also tells us our heart deceives us & we can’t really know our heart like God does.

We just can’t do our own thing or do it our own way! We must be submitted to those over us in the Lord’s eyes-follow God-and He shall see that we are delivered.

  18. This chapter mentions the poor quiet a few times. A person who is poor spiritually is looking for someone to help them. A poor person doesn’t always know where their next meal is coming from or how the rest of their needs will be provided for. God is calling those of us who are filled with HIS spirit to spiritually feed the poor in spirit and give them what they need in order to survive. We have to know how to give the word in season and out. Don’t allow the enemy to keep you quiet and unaware, but let him know that’s it’s time to fight. You see when the enemy picks a fight with you, he’s actually challenging your father as well and he always knows the outcome of challenging Big Daddy.

  19. 25……but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat. 26He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool:

Trying to work things out on own, and not trusting the Lord, gets us in situtaions that later we pay the consequences for. Help us Lord, to wait on you, trust you and lean not to our own understanding so that you may direct our paths.

  20. 4They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

The Jews favored Barabas over Jesus. They praised the wicked and forsook the law, which was literally standing in front of them. I don’t want to forsake the word of God but I want to be a contender. Be Church!

  21. V21 “To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.”

Placing value and priority in the temporal causes us to compromise and devalue the spiritual and put it on the back burner. “I’ll do it tomorrow” is that famous and famously unfulfilled phrase that’s easy to say and easy to never follow through with. The same sort of thing happens when we begin, even in just small things, to place the temporal above the spiritual; even just doing the wrong thing a few times can quickly develop into a sinful lifestyle of wrong-doing.

Matt 16:26 “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

  22. He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

If you think God is not answering your prayers is time to reflect and check yourselves. As this year ends and a new one begins we all find ourselves reflecting on the past, and making new resolutions for the future. Our God will never leave us nor forsake us, but it is us that forsake His law and His righteousness. Lets look in the mirror and be honest with ourselves.

  23. He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue. Amen we all deed this verse on our lives!

  24. This chapter speaks of how we should treat one another we are the fools and losers if we hinder, bash, beat down, backtalk and/or gossip against/about anyone. If we increase ourselves (monies, goods, etc.) at the expense of others (steal) it will cost us and possibly even our families greatly. Verse 13 is scary, dear Jesus we have sinned and come short of your glory. Unfortunately Verse 24 is prevalent more today than in past generations, which I must admit infuriates me. May we never trust in ourselves as stated in Verse 26. May the good Lord Bless you all

  25. we are praying against the spirit of fear…whenever fear attacks let us remember this verse…

1The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

  26. I feel that we should be thankful for the blessings we have im not rich but I get by God said he would supply my needs not my wants because what I think I may want might hinder my walk with Him. Ive heard a person complain years ago about how sinners have everything nice homes, cars ect. & they struggled & were living for God but that is for God to judge Im thankful just to be living for Him. Be Church
