1 Corinthians Chapter 15

Comment of the day from 1/30/11

1Cor.14:14-15 Rsb
It is better to pray or sing in a language everyone understands so that the gift may be used fruitfully
Thank God for all His spiritual gifts that operate at The Pentecostals Of FortWorth
One of the gifts is the spirit of worship, thanksgiving, and praise
Which edifys HIS body. (build-up) HIS church.
Like Sister Watts says;”It’s all about HIM our worship prepares an atmosphere of expectation.
There is no telling what GOD will do and is doing even now in our life
God will visit His people with blessings, healings,
encouragements for those that are lost, hurting
And without hope.
We entertain angels unaware , they desire to see what our Great GOD is doing.

1 Corinthians 15

1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

5And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

6After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

7After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

8And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

9For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

10But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

11Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

12Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

16For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

17And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

18Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

19If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

24Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

25For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

27For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

28And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

29Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

30And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?

31I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

32If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.

33Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

34Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

35But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

36Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:

37And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:

38But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.

39All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

40There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

41There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

43It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

46Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

47The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

48As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

49And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

  1. The resurrection affirms the truthfulness of Jesus’ life and words. V15-28 Christ’s work is to defeat all evil on earth. First he defeated sin and death on the cross, and in the final days, he WILL defeat Satan and all evil. With everything happening in society it may seem that the world is out of control, but God is in control and evil will not remain forever. Evil will only remain until Christ returns again and then Christ will present to God a perfect new world.
If Christ was not resurrected death would end it all, the moment would be all that mattered. Christ was resurrected so we know that life continues beyond the grave and that our life on earth is only a preparation for our life that will never end. What we do today matters for eternity!
God turned Satan’s apparent victory into defeat when Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Death has been defeated, and we have hope beyond the grave.

  2. 33Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

The word for communications here means lifestyles. Not just what people say, but also what they do and how they live.

In 2 Peter 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

We cannot live a holy life and allow Worldly influences to influence us.

Also I’m thankful for the promise of Christ’s coming!

    MARANATHA!

  3. v 52 “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptable, and we shall be changed.” Philp 3v20 NIV “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” The power that enables Him!! Power brought about by his obedience to death. And the power of his resurrection that defeated death!! The absolute foundation of the gospel.

  4. There seems to be a religious drifting from the term or word “Preach” or “Preaching” to the word “Speak” or “Speaking”. I am thankful for this scripture to affirm what I have been feeling in my Spirit in regards to this subject; Paul very clearly states the terms here:

    1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

    3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Paul had already stated that it was “Preaching” that will save us, and to the carnal and the lost it would be foolish.

1 Corinthians 1:18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Preach to me! I want to be saved!

    BE Church
Preach the word with your life and your mouth.

  5. The very foundation is sured up in this chapter. First we must believe that He is! Then we must believe that He died and rose again so that we might life more abundantly. Without that foundational believe as christians we don’t have anything to stand upon. Everything began and will end with GOD! Then once we believe the foundation, we can progress to know that our mortal bodies will take on immortaly bodies, and earthly spirit will take on a heavenly spirit. But first we must believe HE IS!

  6. v58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

The bible has given us a commandment, we must not be moved. We have to continue to dwell in the work that God has put before us. There is a reward for those who edure till the end.

  7. In churches today we hear alot of speaking and not preaching.Has the church lost faith in the Bible,or is it that we just want to “feel good” that we went to church. Being the church is not a religious experence,it’s a lifestyle.

  8. Vs 9-10 Paul declares that since he persecuted the church and yet became an apostle, called of God through his grace, states that he labors more abundantly than all the other apostles!

This makes me think of the scripture that says to whom much is given, much is required! Luke 12:48

Paul tells us he preached Jesus’s death, burial & resurrection as well as the difference bertween a natural and spiritual or ‘born again’ man.

Once we are born again, we qualify to be part of the rapture for scripture tells is that when we’ve received the the Holy Ghost we have “been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, which is an earnest of our inheritance, unto redemption” Eph 1: 13-14

Earnest defined: something of value given by one person to another to bind a contract.

Vs 52-56 We must be prepared for that trumpet sound by being full of the Holy Ghost! Then our mortality shall become immortality and those who have died in the Lord will be changed from corruptable to incorruptable!

Vs 57 Then..”thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”

  9. This chapter tells me to believe in Jesus, in his death and resurrection. Without his resurrection, our Christian belief, our preaching of the Word is all useless. Our testimonies, receiving the Holy Ghost, and baptism is our faith that Jesus is our Savior. His Word has survived since the creation of man. Their is truly one God and his name is Jesus!

  10. Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
14And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
15Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
16For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
17And if Christ benot raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins

We shall see the dead resurrected. Let me tell you if we have not seen someone dead come back to life it’s time. If we have faith in our salvation, if we have faith in the resurection of Christ, then let us have faith to see those who were dead come alive.

“this son of mine was dead and is alive again” Luke 15:24

    claim the victory

  11. vs. 50-58 Every body thats saved will be transformed and dearh and sin left far behind and we will experience the victory won by JESUS.

  12. Christ’s victory places all things including death in subject to him. Death is our inheritence from Adam but we inherit eternal life thru Christ’s victory over death.

As we die in Adam we become alive in Christ.
There are many enemies the most powerful one is death. Which Christ defeats for us, to offer us. So God can be all in all.
    1 Co 15:28
    I die every day

Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die.
    In refference to baptism.

  13. 34Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

It is a shame to us, who believe, NOT to share Jesus with those around us!

  14. “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
Today this verse really comfort’s my soul, because since God is real and we have our faith in Him we already know that our work is not in vain.

  15. 1. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand

Even though they had heard the gospel, if they had not Received it, they would not still be standing in the Lord. We must do more than hear the Word of God, we must believe it, receive it, and act upon it. Without it, we won’t be able to stand against the enemy.

John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”…If we can’t receive the Preached Word of God, we can’t receive God!

Lord, I thank You for allowing me to hear Your Word. Help me to receive it and let it grow and bear fruit in my life!

  16. This chapter speaks of wandering minds, emotions, fears and thoughts. Paul explains how the Grace of God allowed him and will also allow us, if we are faithful to be with Christ on that great day. Paul is teaching how we can be confused if we are not rooted in God’s Word, we must pray and seek his (God’s) face continually. If we have God’s Spirit (Holy Ghost) than we should not fall prey to the “Mind Games” of Satan, God is alive and will be forever more! If we hold fast we will be with the Lord, if not we will have eternity to regret it. May the good Lord Jesus guide and Bless us all

  17. What would it profit Paul to live as dangerously, passionately, and go through so much peril for a Jesus who really didn’t raise from the dead? It would all be in vain, it would be another fad, or fly-by-night movement of man’s foolish agenda. Not so! Paul was doing this because the Jesus that he preached of was real and was alive; of many, many, many people after he was resurrected. Eyewitness accounts of Jesus. What would cause the Corinthian church to began to believe and question the gospel…

Paul gives this answer in v.33; and in the message version it reads like this:

33 Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and morals and character.34 Awake [from your drunken stupor and return] to sober sense and your right minds, and sin no more. For some of you have not the knowledge of God [you are utterly and willfully and disgracefully ignorant, and continue to be so, lacking the sense of God’s presence and all true knowledge of Him]. I say this to your shame.

    Evil Companionships
    Evil Communion
    Evil Associations

Be careful… we cannot deceive ourselves into thinking that we can “HANDLE” evil & sin in our lives. You can’t put a handle on evil things or actions… it will put a handle on you.

Heed to the warning and exhortation of Paul.

  18. Paul says that he has to die daily. To me that’s easier said than done. Die – to disappear or subside gradually; to become indifferent. We have to put away all desires of our flesh and put on all things that are pleasing unto God. We disappear so that people can see the God within us. It’s a process and not something that happens overnight. A continual cleansing of ourselves each day.
If you can’t die to the things of this world; you will never be willing to die for the one that laid down His life for you.

  19. 1Cor.15:58 RBS.
A firm belief in the resurrection and a soild hope for the future give incentive for service in the present

    Thank God for His victory!!!
The resurrection of our LORD AND SAVIOR.
We that love, labor, and follow HIM
Filled with HIS spirit (power) have a guarantee of a resurrection.
He promised we would see HIM again.
    Thank you JESUS!!!

  20. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am…

We are who we are today not because of anything we have done ourselves but by the very grace of God. There is no power within oneself to save them, so let us never forget why we are who we are now. Washed in the blood of the Lamb we are made as white as snow.

34Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

I may not be correct about this but seems to me that this verse is saying GET YOUR LIFE RIGHT! straighten up! Clean up your act! There are people who don’t know of God and His mercy and grace! You should be ashamed of yourself.

This can be relevant today as well…we need to each step up into righteousness and out of sin. There is a world out there who doesn’t know God and how can they if the people of God are sinning and not spreading the Gospel? The church is the ones with the truth if we don’t spread it who will? It’s time to be church!

  21. 58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
If we remain stedfast ,unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord and follow his word will will share in the great victory in the end.
54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

  22. This chapter tells us how with Christ being risen when we are to die and leave our mortal bodies since flesh nor blood can enter the kingdom we are to live and have eternal life afterwords.

  23. Verse 10 (Message) says…But because God was so gracious, so very generous, here I am. And I’m not about to let his grace go to waste. Haven’t I worked hard trying to do more than any of the others? Even then, my work didn’t amount to all that much. It was God giving me the work to do, God giving me the energy to do it. We are only here by his grace.

Verse 58 says… With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.

  24. VS 51-55 Paul is talking about the second coming of Jesus and how we will be changed from corruptible to incorruptible mortal to immortality. We are thankful that we can still be in anticipation for the second coming of Christ and know that we will be forever changed.

  25. V12 “But tell me this—since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead?”

This makes me think of believers out there that sadly don’t really seem to think that the miracles and mighty works of God recorded in the Bible are available to us today. This verse shows that this is not a new problem, that in the early days even some within the church itself doubted and turned to false preaching. We must know God’s Word, we must know Him. It is written: Mark 16:17-18 (emphasis mine) “17 And these signs *SHALL* follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

We must follow Prov 3:5 in trusting God with all our heart and leaning not unto our own understanding. We must see with eyes of faith and know His Word to discern the truth of God: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb 11:1). Daniel prophesied of the endtimes: “…but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits” (Dan 11:32). Do we know our God? We are warned in the endtimes (Matt 24:24) “…if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” We must know our God in truth by faith. If we wait to “see it to believe it” like Thomas, what we see will likely be what we believe and if we see a lie, we’ll likely believe a lie (John 20:29).

Paul leads us to the necessity of mixing our faith with the preached Word in the beginning of this chapter. He speaks of those who saw Christ after His resurrection (Acts 1:3 says that to the apostles “He shewed Himself alive after His passion by many infallible proofs”) saying in v11-12 “11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed. 12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?” Paul asks, “how is it that you reject the very testimony of those who can attest that Christ rose again from the grave?” That very same testimony is still preached to us today in God’s Word, both of His resurrection and many other things.

V58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” The only way to stand stedfast is to have our lives built upon the Word which is the Rock, that Unmovable Rock, Christ Jesus.
