Galatians Chapter 5

Galatians 5

1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

2Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.

3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

4Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

5For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

6For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

7Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

8This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.

9A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

10I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.

11And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.

12I would they were even cut off which trouble you.

13For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

  1. 1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Lord, give us strength to not fall from where we came from

  2. The beginning of this chapter to me seems to be saying that if you live solely by the law then you will be judged by it in it’s entirety. But those who live by faith in Christ Jesus live under grace.

3For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

4Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

To me it also says that if you are justified by tradition you are no longer in grace.

  3. Gal.5:13 (R.S.B). We were called to be free”

We were chosen to be free.
” To be truly free is free indeed ”
    ( Pastor M. Watts )
Jesus paid the price at Calvary.
We have freedom to crucify our old
sinful nature, and freedom to be new creatures
    in Christ Jesus
Thank you Heavenly Father because of
    your amazing Love
We can love and serve you and each other .

  4. v16 “This I say, then, Walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” NIV “So I say, live by the Spirit. and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” This scripture gives us the formula for personal and spiritual liberty! IF we live by the spirit we will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

  5. 9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

Influence to walk away from God doesn’t cause you to do it overnight. It is a slow process, a little give here, and a little give there. Eventually compromise causes us to become numb to the Spirit. To where we think other dark influences are the voice of God. To combat this we must be living a life of prayer, and KNOW the word of God.

Vs15 but if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

Disunity causes us to be separated from the flock. When we do this we lose our covering, and if we are not careful can turn on leadership.

So how can we run well?

Vs16 this I say then, walk in the spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

We become like what we obey. If our flesh, then we will be carnal only serving our own desires, if the Spirit, then we will be spiritual serving the desires of God.

Vs24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

The key to not backsliding when the going gets rough is to remember what the Cross is.

The price he paid for the price we get to pay.

  6. 17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Grace through Christ alone frees us from the letter of the law; there is no other way to salvation. Rather than weighing us down (as the law would), grace lifts us up and enables us as we walk in the Spirit.

  7. In this scripture, it clearly identifies the difference between, walking in the spirit vs. flesh; and boy we have to deal with each and everyone of them, some more than others! Thank God for Grace….well I’m still clinging to my Liberty from Smoking; still going strong, Glory to God, and I used to smoke for approximately 40 years…”God is Good”, and he is “Love”…..

1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

5For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

6For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

13For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

Versus 19 – 21; gives a warning of those things of the flesh, we all need to stay on constant awareness, and not give in to the fleshly desires, and walk in the spirit, in faith, in Jesus Name…Amen.

    >>>Be Church…Be Blessed…Be Safe>>>

  8. Amplified Bible – 16 But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).

17 For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do.

Many times we get “caught” up in actiions and deeds because we are not habitually walking after the Spirit. They say it takes 21 days to form a lasting habit. If we, as the Church, could form the lasting habit of minding the things of the spirit rather than the things of the flesh, turning away from those things that distract us from God, and turning to the things that keep our minds stayed upon Him and kingdom thinking, our stability in our relationship with Jesus Christ would be far greater then we could image.

  9. VS-16

WALKING IN THE SPIRIT. We have its directions in the words of Christ and the apostles. He who is guided by the Spirit will not obey the lust of the flesh.

    VS-17

The flesh and the spirit are in conflict. One goes in one driection and one goes in the
other direction We are not so strong that the two wills within us hinder us from doing as we would by their conflict.

    VS-18

If the desire of the spirit prevails those led of the spirit are the sons of GOD AND ARE FREE FROM THE LAW.
Romans 8-14 For all who are led by the spirit of GOD are sons of GOD.

  10. 9A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

A little good goes along way. Lets go big.Lets see what God is going to do in and through our church.

  11. Living and walking in the Spirit is the SWEET LIFE. The fruit of the Spirit produces such a sweet life that others can’t stay away from it!

We know that fruit usually doesn’t stay ripe forever… it’s meant to be consumed; whether given away by the owner of the tree or plucked off by someone walking by. Whichever the case the fruit will fulfill it’s purpose when eaten.

Too many “church folks” think that some fruit that was produced way back in the early years of their spiritual life is still palatable, but it’s not it stinks, it’s rotted… GROSS!

    Produce some NEW FRUIT!

    How?

    Walk in the Spirit
Don’t let the works of the flesh be manifested in your life… REFUSE IT, REBUKE IT!

    Live the Sweet Life!

  12. This chapter is a warning. We must stay away from evil influences/individuals that are trying to draw us away from God. Our true sinful nature is exactly what we hear and read in the news today; killings, parting, deceit, thieves, backbiting. NO one knows when their time is up, how do we want to meet our maker; “Well done” or “Depart from Me”, sin is simply death. We must shake ourselves and Be-church to one another, our neighbors and to this lost and dying world. May Jesus Bless you all

  13. Here we find the lifelong battle; the works of the flesh against the fruit of the Spirit.

Would we pass the test if it was initiated right now? 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Is my flesh overriding HIS Spirit?

When we are influenced by the voices of others in our lives that have not been placed in our lives for Spiritual authority, Paul records the outcome; 7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? 8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.

It is very clear that stumbling did not come from the LORD who called us.

    BE Church
    BEar Fruit

  14. V9 “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.”

Fruit trees can become sickly for a variety of reasons, including having problems with bacteria, viruses, fungus (seeded from spores), and mites. These things can be difficult if not impossible to see unaided (like leaven) and we find their presence is made known, and sometimes even solely identified, by the damage they do to the fruit tree rather than seeing them directly. Treatment includes spraying the tree with chemicals and even sometimes removing infected parts of the tree.

Luke 13:6-9 AMP “6 And He told them this parable: A certain man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it, but did not find [any].

7 So he said to the vinedresser, See here! For these three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and I find none. Cut it down! Why should it continue also to use up the ground [to deplete the soil, intercept the sun, and take up room]?

8 But he replied to him, Leave it alone, sir, [just] this one more year, till I dig around it and put manure [on the soil].

9 Then perhaps it will bear fruit after this; but if not, you can cut it down and out.”

Let’s not be found fruitless when the Master inspects our lives! Jesus has invested so much into our lives, let us not be like the prodigal son and waste the inheritance we’ve been given. We need to saturate our lives with Jesus and be full of His Spirit so that we might walk in the Spirit and starve the sinful flesh. We must even cut things away that do not agree with righteous living and only drag us down. We can’t afford to fall into the trap of just expecting a big, full on attack to spiritual living; if we go into spiritual battle with that mentality, we’ll miss the little things that eat away at us and tear us down until we’re too weak to resist (or even care) when the bigger oppositions come. Let’s walk in the Spirit with our lives cleansed of everything that hinders our spiritual walk so we can be pleasing to God with lives full of the fruit of His Spirit.

  15. Trying to live your own way gets you…

Verses 19-21 (Message)…….repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on.

    Living God’s way, we get:

Verses 22-23….He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

  16. 7Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

What a powerful verse. I find myself under conviction thinking about all the things I’ve done for Christ and the desires I have yet to fulfill.

Father renew the burden, rekindle the fire that I may run with persistence and continue in love.

I may not be the strongest or the fastest but I do want to fight until He comes.

  17. 7Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?

What a tragedy for someone to strive to do His work only to give up and return to the world…
