Ephesians Chapter 6

Ephesians 6

1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

4And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

5Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

6Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

7With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

8Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

9And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

19And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

20For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

21But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

22Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

23Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

24Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

  1. In this passage we find 2 principals that annual some myths many hold to.

    5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
    6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
    7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

    Frequently people say I am not here to please man “only” God. Which in a sense is a truth, however in verse 5 we find that there is no way to please God with pleasing the flesh man that GOD has placed over our lives. This is why very few people allow a man of GOD into their lives for fear of being told an answer they do not want to hear or warned about something that really desire to do or even complete assignments as requested by our Spiritual authority.

    Verses 6-7 very clearly teach us that a fake will be found out by GOD. There are many people who do what they are asked out of simple obedience and this is the correct thing to do; however then it becomes a task instead of an opportunity to serve the LORD and GOD knows the heart.

    To sincerely BE Church we must kill our will so that the will of GOD can be fulfilled and GOD chose man from the beginning to lead HIS people; Noah, Moses, Abraham, David, Peter, Paul just to name a few. So in summary we need to fall in love with the process of the man of GOD in our lives even when it cost us more than we intended to give, and requires longer than we intended to stay. Because we serve man unto the lord because the LORD serves us through man.

    MSG
    5-8Servants, respectfully obey your earthly masters but always with an eye to obeying the real master, Christ. Don’t just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ’s servants doing what God wants you to do. And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you’re really serving God. Good work will get you good pay from the Master, regardless of whether you are slave or free.

    BE Church
    BE Servants

  2. i believe in the begining of this chapter its telling us how we should treat one another (Honour your father and mother)
    then it tells us that we should work like we are working unto God which we are!
    then its telling us to get ready get our armor on for the time to fight is now!
    i believe no one or thing is going to stop us now! in Jesus name!!!!!

  3. ” Be persistent in your prayers” Eph.6:18 NLT

    Call to me,and I will answer you” Jer 33:3
    Stay in constant contact with God.

  4. 5Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

  5. 1Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

    2Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

    3That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

    4And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

    Is so great to have read about God’s Love yesterday and today to see how obedience and guidance with love can go hand and hand together. The main thing is to train a child from very beginning, continue to guide with love and daily prayer with them as they grow. Sometimes is hard not to get angry with some of their actions, but when we speak in anger we say things we dont mean and the child is most likely to respond in the same manner.
    I am so thankful that our Lord left us the best instruction book for all our needs, HIS WORD!!!

  6. This first part of this chapter focus’s on obediance and accountability. Children obey parents, father do not provoke children to wrath, servants obey your masters and master’s treat your servants with respect. As the body of Christ we are accountable to one anthother. The spirit of Cain says, ” Am I my brother’s keeper? (sin) The Spirit of God responds with an adamant, “Yes”.
    The second half of this chapter focus’s on putting on the whole armour of God to stand against Satan. We, as the church, are one body like an army is one. An army completes a mission. The whole army is focused on that mission. When under enemy fire, the army covers for one another and when one member falls no man is left behind. So yes, we are accountable to each other and we should be the armor bearer for one another. Standing in prayer and fasting for each other. Be Church!

  7. v10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

    The bible has given us a commandment to be strong. A weak person will always be ran over at every opportunity that someone gets a chance. God tells us to be strong so that every opposition we come against can be brought down. You’ve got to show yourself strong and mighty. It’s time for God’s people to stand UP and stand OUT!!

  8. 6Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

    This is such an awesome scripture. So many times we go through life and want to please man. How do you you know when you are trying to please man???

    Example: You work really hard to impress your boss, but when he’s gone you’re a slacker.

    Example: You have church on Sunday when all the “Holy Folks” are watching, but live like the devil on Monday.

    Jesus said,”They worship me with their mouth, but their hearts are far from me.

  9. Every time I read this chapter I can’t help but think about how there’s nothing specifically mentioned to protect the back when describing the different pieces of armor. The only time your back is exposed is when you turn to retreat, or if one of your own is going to attack you…

    Either way don’t worry about it; God’s got yo’ back!

    Just keep marching forward.

  10. This chapter provides direction who we can stand against the wiles of the enemy: Put on the whole armor of God, which enable us to wrestle not against flesh and blood, but in the spirit. The very next verse after instruction for the armor is “praying always.” To me this is also part of the armor. We will not acomplish anything without prayer.

  11. V12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

    So much time is wasted in trying to fight spiritual battles in the natural. One of the wiles of the devil is to try to confuse people about what they’re actually fighting. If he can get someone distracted from the truth of an issue and focused on a symptom rather than the problem itself, they’ll likely just spend their time running in circles making no progress and only becoming exhausted and frustrated. We cannot see beyond the natural without faith, which is stressed in v16, “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”

    We must take our warfare to the spiritual and not fall for the decoy of the natural: v10-11 “10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

    The beginning of this chapter talks about a proper attitude in submission and right relationship between two parties involving one being in authority over the other. It is not surprising that this comes right before a section talking about spiritual warfare in light of James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” In a proper position of submission to God, we naturally resist the devil and have the promise that he will flee from us.

    We find that in order to stand, we must be properly equipped for spiritual battle and apply these tools with prayer. If the devil can stop a person’s prayer, he gains a major foothold in their life. Prayer is a believer’s contact with God, it’s where their thinking is brought in line with God’s (keeping them in step with God so they resist the enemy), it’s where renewed strength can be found, it’s where the things of this world can grow dim in the light of Jesus’ glorious truth and presence, it’s where supplications are surrendered before the throne of the Almighty. Rev 5:8 “And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.”

    Our prayers are collected by God. The enemy can try to compromise a person’s defense after they’ve taken on the armor of God (if you take on the armor, you can certainly take it right back off if you aren’t careful!) but after those prayers are made to God, the enemy can’t touch them. Jesus has them preserved, perfectly recorded; He’s not confused about what was said or meant, He’s not deceived about the situation and what is desired from Him concerning it. The enemy can attack a person’s faith to try to interfere with them receiving God’s answer to prayer, but the enemy’s attack on that prayer still has the be indirect. When prayer is a lifestyle and not simply an event, a saint gains a powerful tool in spiritual warfare.

    V13, 18 “13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. … 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”

  12. Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

    True servanthood cares not who is watching.

  13. This chapter is essentially telling us if we are obedient we will be rewarded. We must be obedient even when no one is watching, we must work when we should be working, we must pray when we should be praying and we must listen when we should be listening. We must first be good followers before we can ever hope to be leaders. We are warring with flesh and worldly spirits, therefore we must, MUST be filled with Christ’s Spirit or we will surely fail. May the good Lord Bless you all

  14. vs” 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”… two key things here– the first is we fight not against flesh and blood. Ofter we mark people as our enemies or as our problems, when in reality its the enemy using his craftiness to dupe them (or us) to cause us to loose sight of the real problem …him. The second statement here is doing all we can, stand… When we stand firm on the word of God and wait on Him no matter how big the storm around us He will come through. We need to lean on Christ our sure foundation and not loose heart.

    As storms and trails have hit me I have slowly gotten gradually netter about “standing” and I’m still working on not labeling people as my problem, but the enemy. Lets be church and stand firm on Christ and not be the accuser of our brothern…

  15. The CEV version of verses 10-12 say…

    Finally, let the mighty strength of the Lord make you strong. 11Put on all the armor that God gives, so you can defend yourself against the devil’s tricks. 12We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world.

    God is our strength and he gives us the armor we need so we can defend ourselves against the devil’s tricks; but, we have to get on our knees and put on that armor.

  16. 10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
    11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

    We need to be strong in God’s might and put on the whole armour of God. With these great things we can stand against whatever the devil throws infront of us.
