Philippians Chapter 1

Philippians 1

1Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

2Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

3I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

4Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,

5For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

7Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.

8For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

10That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

11Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

12But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

13So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;

14And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

15Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

16The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

17But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

18What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

19For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

20According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

21For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.

23For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

24Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

25And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

26That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

27Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

28And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.

29For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

30Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

  1. Vs 10 “without offense till the day of Christ”

    God is ever present no matter the season of our times or circumstances .We stand on His word.
    Let us pray fervently for each other
    (God”s church )
    As Paul prayed for the church in Philippi.
    To be ready to meet the Lord when He appears.

  2. VS-21

    For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.

    Paul has made serving Christ the most important thing in his life. After such a life death can only mean gain for a great rewards await We as Christians need to make serving the Lord the most important thing and purpose in our life.

    VS-25

    And having the confidence I know I shall abide and continue with you all for your futherance and joy of faith.

    Paul has no personal anxiety about dying he is convinced he will be released. Christians need to realize that heaven is home and that no real satisfaction can be found in this life. Why does GOD not take us home when we are converted. Paul was shown that he will remain to help the Philippians.

  3. That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ

    Let all we do be excellent in the sight of God.

  4. Verses 4-5
    To me it means that I should be grateful forevery person in my life and thanking God for pitting them in my life so that I can pray for them so that God can so a miracle in there life.

  5. Paul shows in this chapter his dedication to the ministry. He was completely sold out to what God had in store for him. We as the children of God have to make a decision on rather our not we’re ready to serve God with everything that we have. Let’s move foward& be about our father’s business.

  6. Verse 27 – Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

    Oh that our conversation would become the gospel of Christ. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. We must be sure to only put in what is good and acceptable in the sight of God, because what goes in will definitely come out.

  7. Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our FAITH. He is the beginning and the ending of our Faith; in other words he is the GOD of the details. Paul recorded in verse 6 concerning the faithfulness of the LORD.

    6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

    We must not grow weary in well doing; for in due season we will reap if we faint not! Paul addresses our confidence in the fact that JESUS is able to FINISH the work in us. We must choose to remain close, flexible, sensitive, and committed to the work Jesus has begun in our lives.

    BE Church

  8. 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

    God isn’t interested in a half way unfinished product. He has designed this thing with every purpose in mind for our success. Once we understand this, then we can take risks, have boldness, become passionate, and live for God knowing that even if we slip up, God knows all things and his plan is for us to make it.

    Be Confident
    Be Church

  9. It’s amazing how Paul is not frustrated or anxious about his trouble. He was to blessed to be stressed. The opinions of others did not determine his destiny.

  10. 28And in nothing terrified by your adversaries

    If we have one spirit and strive for the faith nothing can stop us…

    Not even being short!

    I ain’t’ gonna stop now!

    Let our adversaries be terrified of the Holy Ghost that’s in us!

  11. 9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

    10That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

    11Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

    What a beautiful prayer of encouragement!!! Now this is the way we should pray for one another daily, and to show Christ true and honest Love to the rest of the world.

  12. This chapter is purely inspirational. Here we see a man locked in prison for defending the gospel of Christ, how will we compare. If we become more like Christ we will become less like the world, whereas if we become more like the world we will become less like Christ. Only God can bring true peace and happiness, how else can you explain a person in prison that is happy, oh God forgive us (me) of our (my) pity parties. Jesus help us to become more like you, may the Lord Bless you all.

  13. 6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

    The day I received the Holy Ghost Christ started a great work in me, and he desired to continue that work as long as I will let Him.

  14. vs” 12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;” … all we go through God is using to bring us to a place in Him where he can use us. Its all about what we are going to do for Him and His kingdom.

  15. So knowledge is to put what we know in to what we do, we should pray that our love and compassion for souls will be seen in our actions and our thoughts.

  16. Verses 3-6 in the CEV version says…

    Every time I think of you, I thank my God. And whenever I mention you in my prayers, it makes me happy. This is because you have taken part with me in spreading the good news from the first day you heard about it. God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won’t stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.

    We need to do our part in spreading the good news. Never waivering and having courage to face whatever comes our way because with God all things are possible.

  17. 21 For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. (NLT)

    25 Knowing this, I am convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow and experience the joy of your faith. (NLT)

    We must live for Christ and enjoy it, but even more we must die to Christ’s will. Living ourselves for Christ is great but we must also help and encourage each other so that they may experience the same joy we do.
