Philippians Chapter 2

Philippians 2

1If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

5Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

16Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

17Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

18For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.

19But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

20For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

21For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

22But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

23Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

24But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

25Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

26For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

27For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

28I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

29Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:

30Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

  1. Paul is sharing the testimony of his all out effort to send a minister to the Philippians to encourage, exhort, rebuke, correct and love them; however he faced a dilemma that I fear our generation is struggling with today:

    21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

    The approach to ministry is so much different today than it was even 20 years ago; in many of todays churches and ministries the focus has moved from the struggles of intercessory prayer to the production of entertaining services.

    While I believe that it is very important to we utilize the resources and opportunities that our generation has presented and produced there is not one tool that can replace the effects and results of the agonizing, travailing, intercessory prayer.

    My prayer today is that I would seek the things of Jesus and not my own.

    BE Church

  2. V12 NIV “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed–not only in my presence but much more in my absence-continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling”
    “Work out” not as in works being done but as an ongoing process in which the believer MUST participate. And with a reverant fear of God that brings about that desire to please Him.

  3. 3Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

    If we could remember it’s bout God and not us. When we pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ and we rejoice with them when they receive their blessing, we to will be blessed.

  4. vs.10 & 11 That at the name of Jesus every
    knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth,and things under the earth;
    And that every tongue should confess that
    Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of
    God the Father.

    Prayer will keep us humble, obedient and strong in our faith and in His spirit.
    Prayer will sustain our commitment to
    JesusChrist and each other .
    JESUS IS LORD !!!

  5. 10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

    11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

    One day no one will be able to deny the glory of God. Be Church!

  6. This chapter shows that we need to love one an other and not judge, pray for one an other. Dont think about just ourselves but each other and help others in need, encourage, stay positive, pray, seek him, read daily.
    Be Church!!

  7. VS-10 That at the name of JESUS every knee should bow of things of heaven and things in earth and things under earth.

    There is no name greater than the name of JESUS he is the KINGS OF KINGS. Every knee in the universe will bow to its majesty.

    And that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD to the glory of GOD the father.

    Everybody in the world is called to confess him as LORD and glorify him.

  8. This chapter illustrates how to Be-Church. If we are in this “Christianity thing” for self-gain then we will surely be the loser. To be Christ like is to; Be-Giving, Be-Caring, Be-Sacrificial and Be-Loving all of which are to Be-Church. The world will bring sadness, suffering and death where Jesus will bring Life, if we are true. Jesus life is an example, which we should be humbled, enlightened and inspired by. We should reverence Christ and those that lead us to Jesus.

  9. MSG 12-13 I’m getting at, friends, is that you should simply keep on doing what you’ve done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience. Now that I’m separated from you, keep it up. Better yet, redouble your efforts. Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure.

    Lord help me to live in responsive obedience that you get pleasure out of my life, a living sacrifice unto you.

  10. Anything done with murmuring or disputing puts our light out that shines to the world. We must “speak good things.”

    We’ll be blameless, harmless, and without rebuke. Sound good to me and more importantly it’s a good thing unto the Lord.

  11. In this scripture, it clearly indicates the importance of being humble, or to have a servant heart; God humbled himself to assume the role of a human servant, and even until death…..

    6Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

    7But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

    …and we moan and groan over little things; or small matters, (preachng to myself on this one), may God grant us the grace to comprehend, the fullness of our destiny, or his plan in our lives, Amen. …God Bless…

  12. 15That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world

    If there is no difference between the way that we are and the way that the world is then how can we shine?

  13. 4Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

    Just as Christ came and died for us, we are to walk in His humility and selflessness and help others. I am concerned with my walk with God but I am also concerned with those around me and people I don’t even know.

  14. vs “2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”… If w elook after one another and not worry about “keeping up with the Jones” (and stay humble and ful of joy) then God will use us more and more to reach the lost. We need an attitude of almost needing to serve or help others to replace the ever growing desire to “keep up with the Jones”…

  15. The beginning of the chapter instructs us to be in unity to speak the same. And love one another and prefer other before yourself . And to have the mind of Christ.

  16. v5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

    Once again the bible has given us a commandment, we MUST have the mind of christ Jesus. if we’re thinking like our father, we can’t help but to do great things. God wants us to go higher in him, but first we have to be on the same page as him.

  17. 14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

    15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

    16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

    Let not strife be among us, lets love each other, protect each other from the harms of this world. Let others admire our relationship and let this love be a light that will show them the path to Jesus. Our actions speak louder than our words. Love my Church Family!!

  18. to have a mind like Jesus Christ. Pray, Seek, Praise, Read, Obey, Love, and more. God is asking this in this chapter… show love and compassion, dont be hateful!

  19. The beginning of this chapter talks about putting our OWN desires/wants/advantages aside and seek to promote others. We have to be willing and have the desire to find those in need.

  20. 14 Do everything without complaining and arguing,
    15 so that no one can criticize you.(NLT)

    Amen!! We need to, smile 😀 in all things we do with a joyful spirit and attitude. We get angry because we don’t like others telling us about ourselves but if we just quit complaining maybe instead of negative comments we’ll get positive ones.
