2 Timothy Chapter 2

2 Timothy 2

1Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

2And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

3Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

5And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

6The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

7Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

8Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

9Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

10Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

13If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

14Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

15Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

17And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

18Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

23But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

  1. 19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

    The foundation of the Lord is a sure thing! The Lord knows who is his and his remove themselves from sin! I want him to know that I am his! Be Church!

  2. v8 NIV “Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David.” Both the diety of Christ and his humanity are seen in this verse. Paul was saying to Timothy ” Don’t forget that flesh and blood ( a human trait) died that day but the Spirit rose from that tomb. He was reminding Timothy that humanity and diety are the truths of the gospel. In other words, no “life giving gospel” can be based on a dead man.

  3. We must die to ourselves for the sake of God’s kingdom, but through all that we may go through for Jesus we will forever have our reward in Heaven.

  4. Paul is restating many proverbs, and at the same time charging Timothy(us) to do these commands; (3) Endure hardness, (15) study to shew thyself approved unto God, (16) shun profane and vain babblings, (22) flee youthful lusts and follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart, (23) advoid foolish and unlearned questions, (24) be gentle, teach, and be patient, (25) instruct those that oppose themselves…

  5. This chapter was exactly what I needed to read this morning. God has shown me numerous times that if you want your promise your going to have to endure much hate and strife along the way just as he did.

    Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

    16But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

    24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

    25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

    We must be the best servant in order to Be Church. God will establish the path you just have to have enough faith that he’ll lead you the right way…

  6. CEV v 8 ” Keep your mind on Jesus Christ !
    As the one in whom is salvation
    Jesus Christ risen from the dead.Descended from David

    Remember his marvelous works that he hath done his wonders,and the judgments of his mouth; 1 Chronicles 16:12

    Remember His amazing love, birth,calvary
    resurrection He is,all powerful,wonderful
    humbleness,faithfulness,forgiveness,kindness,
    greatness,holiness ,healer,redeemer,everlasting
    waymaket, peace speaker,rigtheousness,
    gracious, glorious ,deliverer,provider,strong tower
    defender,majestic, merciful ,counselor,
    magnificent,God all mighty,I AM,joy unspeakable
    God in us, God with us, our Father,our friend
    omnipresent,omniscient ,omnipotent, alpha
    omega, Lord of everything , beginning, end
    And SOON COMING KING!!!

  7. 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

    16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

    The only way we will not be fooled by the enemy or the antichrist is by studying the word of God, being able to rightly divide the truth. Verse 16 goes without saying keep away from gossip and lets control that small member called tongue, for if we dont the out come is more ungodliness.

  8. V17..talks about if you are gossiping or bickering it is as a dangerous cancer. Gossiping about the leaders and pastor in your life is dangerous ground lift them up in prayer don’t run them down.
    I also believe that we must die out to sin and let God make us a vessel for him to use for his kingdom

  9. NIV 3 “Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.”

    Lets all be a soldier, in God’s army. As Christians we are drafted in God’s army. We are to be committed, loyal and supportive of God’s purpose. We are to please God, just like we want to please our boss, coworkers, friends and family members. A good soldier, will not let their commanding officer down, in our case Jesus!!

  10. AMP – 4 No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of [civilian] life; his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him.

    WOW – what revelation we receive from the Word of God. Too many times, and all of us are guilty, we get caught up in what we want, and what we think God wants for us, and don’t take the time to search it out in prayer and fasting to find out what exactly does please God. Lord help us to be more concerned about the plans you have for us, more than the plans we have for ourselves, or what we think you have for us, but help us seek you until we know what pleases you!

  11. The servant of the Lord should so deal with erring men that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil.

  12. 24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

    This is what I needed for today. God knows exactly what we need when we need it.
    This is scripture that all teachers need to read because it is so true.

  13. This chapter tells us to always do our very best for God. Verses 11-13 in the Message version say….

    “This is a sure thing:

    If we die with him, we’ll live with him;
    If we stick it out with him, we’ll rule with him;
    If we turn our backs on him, he’ll turn his back on us;
    If we give up on him, he does not give up—
    for there’s no way he can be false to himself.”

    Verse 24 in the NLT says…..”A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.”

  14. VS-10 Therefore I endure. Since the work goes on I endure cheerfully. For the elects sakes all came upon him on account of his devotion to the church. He suffered that others GODS chosen ones might obtain salvation.

  15. WOW!

    What a FULL chapter!

    15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
    16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
    17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
    18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
    19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

    We learn fro this chapter the value and importance of personal bible study, prayer, and submission. Vain babblings cost these elders their own life. The reason is that this Gospel we preach is SEALED!

    BE CHURCH
    BE Wise in conversation
    BE Consistant in Prayer
    BE Sealed by the Holy Ghost

  16. 12 If we don’t give up,
    we will rule with him.
    If we deny
    that we know him,
    he will deny
    that he knows us.
    13 If we are not faithful,
    he will still be faithful.
    Christ cannot deny
    who he is.”
    God IS faithful….that is part of who He is and always will be. No matter what we do, where we go, what we say; He is always going to be true to His word. He will not lie.
    But, He will deny those that are not true to Him and His holy word. He will not dwell in an unclean temple.
    I want Him to not only be faithful to me but to know who I am. I want to hear the words, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.” 🙂

  17. This chapter speaks volumes. We must be patient and willing to do the Lord’s work if we are to reap the Lord’s reward. The Lord will always be true to his Word we must be true to him, which is the real challenge. If we are to win souls than we need to be approachable and not argumentative, simply put we must Be-Church. May the good Lord Bless you all, in Jesus name

  18. The word entangled is a great word when picturing a soldier trying to carry out a mission. If you’re wrapped up and tangled up you can’t fight very well. The words “be not” tell me that we have control over being entangled… be a good soldier.

  19. V3 “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

    We generally don’t think of soldiers as lazy, out of shape, feeble, or cowardly; the traditional image projected is much more honorable, one of a soldier being active, fit, strong, and brave. I am reminded of Paul’s words in 1 Cor 9:24-27 “24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

    25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

    26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

    27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”

    It’s not time to back down out of the fight, it’s time to keep pressing on and *endure*, “as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” V12 “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him…”

  20. 20 In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use.
    21 If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. (NLT)

    We should strive to be the utensil God wants to use for his good works.

  21. v 12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

    As christians there are certain things that we are going to have go through. When the enemy comes in like a flood the spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. If we truly believe that God will do this, then we will be willing to suffer with him, so that we may one day reign with him.
