Titus Chapter 1

Titus 1

1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

2In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

3But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

4To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

6If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

7For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

8But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

9Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

11Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

12One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

13This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

14Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

15Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

  1. 16 Such people claim to know God, but their actions prove that they really don’t.
    Actions speak louder than words! People are not fooled by our talk when we carry ourselves and act in a way that is totally opposite to what we speak. Be Church in Everything You Do!
    Like pastor sang Wednesday night; Oh be careful little eyes what you see, feet wher you go, hands what you do, ears what you hear, etc.

  2. 10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

    11Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

    When I read these scriptures I think of the gossiper. I don’t want my words to stop the flow of the spirit. Instead mouths must be stopped. Gossip, is like releasing poison into water, it will spread quickly and destroy any new growth. Thankfully, POFW has the spirit of the church in Acts, we are of one mind and one accord. If God be for us, who can be against us? Be Church!

  3. vs “7For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;8But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate”…We must be mean and hit people. We must be nice and share everything
    including Jesus.

  4. What a prophetic day we live in!

    Just yesterday at lunch with Pastor Foster we were discussing this very subject, the MSG version describes it this way: 10-16 For there are a lot of rebels out there, full of loose, confusing, and deceiving talk. Those who were brought up religious and ought to know better are the worst. They’ve got to be shut up. They’re disrupting entire families with their teaching, and all for the sake of a fast buck.

    There are ministries and ministers who previously preached this Apostolic Doctrine that are now luring many young preachers away with this confusing, unbiblical, easy believe religious talk; all for a dollar and a position.

    How about some clear Leadership requirements: 7-9 It’s important that a church leader, responsible for the affairs in God’s house, be looked up to—not pushy, not short-tempered, not a drunk, not a bully, not money-hungry. He must welcome people, be helpful, wise, fair, reverent, have a good grip on himself, and have a good grip on the Message, knowing how to use the truth to either spur people on in knowledge or stop them in their tracks if they oppose it. MSG

    BE Church
    As has been stated; Actions speak louder than words.

    • I was reading yesterday about a pastor being dismissed from his church for not believing in hell anymore. An evangelist wrote a book, “saying God would not let his people suffer in hell for eternity. He criticizes the belief that a select number of Christians will spend eternity in the bliss of heaven while everyone else is tormented forever in hell”
      This pastor supported the views of this evangelist.

      This is the ultimate deceit. The bible clearly states hell and heaven. Its unbelievable pastors and Christians could be led to believe this. As Christians we can’t be easily deceived. Lets read our bible, and Be AT Church to listen to our Pastor preach the TRUTH!

  5. Im with my Pastor on this, we are living prophetic days!!! So many Ministers out there saying they belong to God and know God, but their actions show otherwise. That is the big reason that we at POFW need to explain, show, and teach the truth to everyone we come in contact with; think about it as we as responsible for not telling them the truth as the ones that are teaching lies??? When we face our Lord are we going to be filled of would of, could of, should of, or are we going to be greeted with “well done my good and faithful servant”. Lets Be Church, lets be instruments in Gods hands to facilitate and show the truth to this lost world.

    • 16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

  6. v 2 “In hope of eternal life”
    HE is our hope in that Appearing
    for which we wait will again manifest.
    The Lord Jesus is coming back again.
    Tthat is our hpoe eternal life with Him
    ” For He who promised is FAITHFUL ” Heb.10:23

  7. If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.7For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

    A new revelation! It says that “If any be blameless, the husband of one wife..” I have always wondered why it said that for a bishop to have one wife. But , it doesn’t say that,for it says that IF ANY BE BLAMELESS,… This tells me that all husbands should only have one wife

    14Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

    My gramdma is a Holy Ghost filled woman and yet she listens to these tv evangilists that preach about the jewish traditions. We ,our family, has tried to convince her other wise. Now when I see her I can show her this scripture.

  8. (v9)Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught,that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exort and to convice the gainsayers. well i think i dont have to be in the ministry for me to follow ,to obey this command,we oght to be wittnesses,so if must read and understand God’s word.(i pray for understanding,for God has not giving a spirit lf fear,but of love,power and soud mind.)that way i am able to convice the gainsayers……God bless.thank you Jesus……

  9. 3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
    God has empowered us to His great commission to proclaim the gospel of Christ throughout the world. Thank God for men and women who speak in obedience to the commands of God (His Truth)

    Thank you Pastor for your great leadership you bear witness revealed of His life, cross and the power of His resurrection and led our lives to:
    *Freedom (from sin) Acts 2:38 & John 3:5
    *Relationship with God – Prayer
    *And His power- the Holy Ghost
    To live holy lives in hope of an eternal life with Him.

    God desires that all men be saved and to come to the kingdom of truth.

    Don’t take His love and truth for granted.

  10. vs.”15Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.”… When someone really is trying to follow God and do His word their actions show, and their “take” on things of this world , on obsticles that come at them and at thing things that the Word talks of, is totally different from those actions and reactions of those not concerned with pleasing God. Thier spirit is hungry and they devour everything wanting more Jesus. While the unpure squander what they have never being satisfied and never reverencing the things of God.
    In high school I learned that during Vietnam the enemy would place traps alomg the easy paths, knowing that many soldiers would take the easy path just because it was the easy path. Our spiritual enemy does the same. He spreads lies to people by telling them “you don’t have to do all this”, ” it really is easier if you only believe this and not that”. These foolish fables and myths sound good, but only lead to death and destruction….

  11. hi everyone this is paul letting everybody know that the savior sent him to tell and teach them the way things should be done. paul lets them know that he is sent by the king and that is that.

  12. I love the way Paul starts his epistles, Paul a servant of God. If that was the only way I could identify myself, I would have accomplished great things in my life.

  13. This chapter is straightforward Be-holy and Be-church. We must do what is correct in God’s Word, we must live holy and pure before the Lord. We must repent daily because we all have sinned and come short of his glory. We must remove ourselves from sinful circumstances or we may be drawn by the snares of the deceiver. It is imperative that we pray for our leaders so they can lead us properly for we all need Godly leaders. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  14. VS 1
    Christian truth is revelation of reality. To know the truth is to accept its reality and to live by and lead into GODLINESS. Christian truth can never be isolated from morality as if knowing GODS truth were a mere intellectual exercise. Knowing is commitment to A GODLY life

  15. 1 I, Paul, am God’s slave and Christ’s agent for promoting the faith among God’s chosen people, getting out the accurate word on God and how to respond rightly to it. (MSG)

    We are God’s and He uses us to Be Church.

  16. Vs 15-16 speak the minset of a backslider. They process to know God but deny him in works. We must becareful we don’t fall into this same trap.

  17. What a strong word of caution given in the latter part of this chapter regarding those who have known truth, and now have allowed deception to over take them, and try to get others to leave the truth and follow them in deception. Amplified Bible says 16They profess to know God [to recognize, perceive, and be acquainted with Him], but deny and disown and renounce Him by what they do; they are detestable and loathsome, unbelieving and disobedient and disloyal and rebellious, and [they are] unfit and worthless for good work (deed or enterprise) of any kind.

    Lord, help me to keep the doctrines of apostolic teachings guarded in my heart that I mighty not sin against you with by acception deception into my life.

  18. 16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

    Lord help us to be fruitful.

  19. V16 “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.”

    Our talk can be right but our lives will reveal whether we actually are. It amazes me how some people who are very much not living right will suddenly begin talking about God and nearly preaching scripture when the topic of church and proper living comes up. They don’t even seem to be trying to live a godly lifestyle yet they’re talking right when they get on the subject. It’s not enough to talk the talk, we have to walk the walk too.

    It can be obvious when someone does this on the outside, but to be church we must examine ourselves to see if we do this on the inside with God. It can be subtle, but when we are sliding in an area or not doing everything we know we could, sometimes we begin to put up a front as if somehow we could fool God into thinking we’re alright when we’re not. Jesus is the One, the Way that helps us get right, it’s pointless to try to get right to get to Jesus. We must remember that Jesus isn’t looking for a show, He’s looking for our hearts and for us to be real, open, and honest with Him.

    James 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

    1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

    Hiding sin causes the issue to fester in our life and the damage remains. But confessing it and dealing with it brings us healing and wholeness. There’s no reason to try to hide it, God already knows, and it doesn’t matter how great we look on the outside, the truth of our state is revealed by our inward condition.

    Matt 23:26-28 “26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

    27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

    28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.”

    It’s easy to get caught up in outward appearances, but it’s all useless if the inside isn’t good. When being right becomes equated with looking right, we can fall into the trap of trying so hard to look right that we convince ourselves we *are* right when we’re not. The church has no room for hypocrisy and self-deception, we can’t afford the personal loss and this world can’t afford the loss of the church not *being* church.

  20. Paul has left Titus to set this church in order, instructing him in some of the things that are in disorder there. It would be too bad for us not to have a pastor (shepard) over us to keep us in order.

  21. This chapter shows us that people of the church can stray away from God, but can drag peple down with them and that causes a chain reaction. One that we dont want or need. So we need to stay focused on our walk with God not other people’s walk. Seek God and his word, stay in prayer and encourage other’s in Gods walk, reach out to people, and stay postive.
    Be Church!!
    God Bless ❤

  22. This chapter reminds us to know and not only teach; but, SHOW the truth in everything we do or say. Our lives have to reflect what we believe!

    As verse 2 in the Message version says….”My aim is to raise hopes by pointing the way to life without end. This is the life God promised long ago—and he doesn’t break promises!”

  23. This chapter tells me that we need to not only know the truth and teach it; but, our lives should SHOW what we believe.

    Our aim should be as Paul’s in verse 2…..”My aim is to raise hopes by pointing the way to life without end. This is the life God promised long ago—and he doesn’t break promises!”

  24. v 10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

    We have to watch out for those who desire to take us down. A lot people out there have slick tongues, ready to give you a word, but the word that they’re giving is only given to try to deceive. Let us hold fast to truth, so that we may not be deceived.
