Hebrews Chapter 1

Hebrews 1

1God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

4Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

5For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

6And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

7And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

8But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

9Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

10And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

11They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;

12And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

13But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

14Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

  1. It is a marvelous thing that as an heir of salvation with can know that angels will minister unto us when we need them.

  2. v1 NIV “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his son.” A new covenant has been established. Christ’s death, burial and resurrection changed the way God spoke to his people. What a privilege that through His spirit, we can have personal, daily communication from Him (and with Him) every day!!

  3. This chapter is full of wonderful affirmation concerning the Godhead.

    Some portrait God the Father on a big throne, Jesus his son on a another throne to the right of the Father and the Holy Spirit on yet another smaller throne on the left. Verse 8 says:

    8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

    This verse makes it again very clear to me that there is ONE throne in HEAVEN and JESUS will be the ONE in it. Look at the MSG version:

    8-9But he says to the Son,
    You’re God, and on the throne for good;
    your rule makes everything right.
    You love it when things are right;
    you hate it when things are wrong.
    That is why God, your God,
    poured fragrant oil on your head,
    Marking you out as king,
    far above your dear companions.

    Understanding GOD is such a blessed revelation. Though I do not believe that we will in this life totally understand the fullness of GOD; we have understanding that GOD is a SPIRIT (Father) and by HIS own Creation (SON) everything was made.

    Notice also as a result of JESUS attitude toward sin and evil, HIS authority was established; since we are heirs with HIM that same authority is available to us.

  4. v2 ” Heir of all things,by whom he made the worlds”

    He loves so much he robed Himself in flesh
    to meet the needs of our human minds, hearts,
    and souls.
    He bears our griefs ,sorrows,and was wounded
    For our transgressions.
    We can find comfort in His promises, in His
    precious name JESUS.
    He alone is GOD and worthy to receive all of our
    worship. “. Jesus Is Lord Of All” !!!

  5. I agree with Pastor. By simply taking this Chapter verse by verse I do not see how anyone could truly think this is talking about a trinity unless they simply defend tradition in each thought presented. The fact is worship can only be given unto God. The Hebrews reading this knew of only one God and their thinking was strictly monotheistic. They had no dispute concerning oneness or threeness.

  6. (amplified) 11They will perish, but You remain and continue permanently; they will all grow old and wear out like a garment.

    God Is Alpha And Omega And Everything Between.

  7. “9Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”…To love the sinner and hate the sin is tough. Here we are hearing that God hates iniquity, not the person in sin. We also hear that He loves righteousness.

    “10And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:11They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;12And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.” ….God never changes. We change our minds, our habits, our ways of thinking, but God never changes. We grow older, weaker, more fragile in our body and minds, but God never changes. The only constant we have in our lives is that God never changes. The same God that created the heavens and the earth, is the same God that laid His life down that we might be forgiven, and is the same one that resides in us which we call the Holy Ghost, which is evident when we are speaking in other tounges. God never changes. He’s the same God in the book of Acts as He is today in Fort Worth and everywhere else around the world. God never changes, and His word will never fail. In case you misses the memo, GOD NEVER CHANGES.

  8. 13But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

  9. This chapter fills me with joy, my God, one God, One throne, and to think that we as join heirs will reing with Him!!! I am so thankful for your Grace and Mercy, although I may not deserve it, you give me Your Love so freely.

  10. VS -13
    But to which of the angels said he at any time sit on my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

    SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND.
    The right hand is A place of power and authority. Christ not only laid the foundations of the earth and possesses endless life and existence he also exercises all power and authority of deity.

  11. 14Isn’t it obvious that all angels are sent to help out with those lined up to receive salvation message bible

  12. This presents the sufficiency and superiority of Christ. Christ is superior to the angels, Moses, and high priest. This can be a great encouragement to us and help us avoid drifting away from our faith in Christ. The earth is not permanent and it’s in destructive while Christ remains forever and unchanging.

  13. It should be notched that God here in verse 10 addresses His son as LORD that is Jehovah. The conclusion is inescapable the Jesus of the nt is the Jehovah of the old.

  14. The declarations in this chapter: God revealing himself little by little to the prophets, and reigning eternally with the angels, having all power and authority, but changes not and is forever the same for us.

  15. This Son, Jesus, perfectly mirrors God, and is stamped with God’s nature. He holds everything together by what he says—powerful words! After he finished the sacrifice for sins, the Son took his honored place high in the heavens right alongside God, far higher than any angel in rank and rule.he says to the Son,
    You’re God, and on the throne for good;
    your rule makes everything right.
    You love it when things are right;
    you hate it when things are wrong.
    Jesus wants us to do what is right, turn from sin, because He hates sin.

  16. The name of Jesus truly is a more excellent name. A name above all names. One that causes the earth to shake & every knee to bow. When ever we get in trouble we can just call on the name of Jesus & know that he will be right there.

  17. Vs 14 This promise of ministering spirits sent to the heirs of salvation simply needs us to put it into action. Ask of the Lord Jesus to sent his ministering angels to your loved ones -to the lost of this community- to deal with the hardened hearts, the unbelief, the lack of faith, etc. They can go where we cannot and accomplish what we cannot.

    It’s not his will that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance! It’s his goodness that draweth a man to repent!

    Lord send your ministering spirits to my family, to all backsliders and to those seeking you! Deliver people from false doctrines & unbelief in this region. Give them a hunger & thirst for you so they will seek more of you. In Jesus name Amen

  18. 9Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

    I want to be annointed with the oil of gladness. What a picture these words create.

  19. The Supremacy of God’s Son

    In the ESV of Chapter 2 verses 3-4 say…..

    “He is the radiance of the glory of God and(H) the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.(I) After making purification for sins,(J) he sat down(K) at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4having become as much superior to angels as the name(L) he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

    • I was going to use this same version…. the universe is held up by the power of his word! That’s powerful… nothing like the word.

  20. This chapter speaks of the Godhead. The mystery of God is not hid from those that seek him, which is essentially what is shown here. We must not argue with the Word, the Word is true and the Word speaks to those that all it to. Thank God for his grace, mercy and most all Blood. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen
