Hebrews Chapter 2

Hebrews 2

1Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

2For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

3How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

4God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

5For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

6But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that thou visitest him?

7Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

8Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

10For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

11For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

12Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.

13And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

14Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

16For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

17Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

18For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

  1. v1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest at any
    time we should let them slip.
    v3″which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

    God has spoken to the POFW through His hearing servants. God has confirmed time and time again His exceeding and great precious
    promises.
    We must not let His promises slip away and we must not slip either .
    ( PS.73:28) As we draw near to God in faith, trust, and in prayer to declare all of works. To declare and war for old prophecies that have been spoken over the POFW.
    We must hold fast to Him and never lose sight of
    Him. It’s His will He will bring it pass.
    Thank GOD for His lovingkindness.
    HE IS FAITHFUL !!!

  2. The first few verses admonishes us even today to be careful to not forget the message of the gospel and the teachings of the apostles. Jesus and his Word is real and judgement is coming for those that neglect his commandments.

  3. 3How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

    How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation! We are all guilty of neglect. Whosoever knoweth to do good and does not to him it is sin. Be church!

  4. v18 “NIV “Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” LB “For since he himslef has now been through suffering and temptation, he knows what it is like when we suffer and are tempted, and he is wonderfully able to help us.” Temptation comes to every Christian yet we have the way to overcome through the sacrifice of Jesus. He was spared nothing for my benefit.

  5. Verses 3-4 pose a question to the believer; in particular to the believer that would feel that the gospel would need to be altered.

    3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
    4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

    There is no escaping the sin of neglecting salvation. Jesus help me to hold fast and hold dear the salvation you delivered to the saints through the Apostles at Pentecost.

    May the LORD continue to bear witness by the Holy Ghost to and through HIS Church. Thats ME and that’s another reason we must

    BE Church

  6. JESUS,the author of my salvation,the author of my faith,so much thruth i need to know,this chapter is one if many of our weapons.”ye sahll know the trhuth,and the truth shall set you free…..like pastor Watts said:”many of us are in trouble now,simply because we do not know what it’s written”(v10)for it became him,for whom are all thing,and by whom are all things,in bringing many sons unto glory,to make the captain of their salvation perfect through suffering.Jesus had to go to suffering,so that tells me that God many times molds us throught suffering.suffering make us strong,cleans us,reveals things about us,makes us realize things,anyways thats what i think.thank you Jesus for your obedience,for not giving up,for your submotion to the father.thank you for being the only perfect good exemple to us.i have been able to conquer many obstacles because of this verse:18 For in that he himself hath sufferd being temted,he is able to succour them that are temted.,thank you Lord,for your mercy endures forever…….

  7. Vs 16 Jesus took on the nature of the flesh, not of angels – which is God (holy) in the flesh. We too are like Him when we receive His holy Spirit inside. (Holy Ghost) In his flesh he made choices during his life on earth using the power of God inside, we too must the same choices in life he made-also with the power of God inside us.
    Vs17 Now he is a mericiful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, and in reconciliation of the sins of the people.
    Vs18 He himself has suffered during temptation and is well able to deliver and help us that are tempted.

  8. 1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
    2 For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,
    3 how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him

    **This is why we need to pay attention at what is preached behind the pulpit if we don’t pay attention we could lose our whole self because we decided to not hear what is being said by our pastor, who God chose to tell us about his word so that we may be saved.**

  9. 11For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

  10. The realization in this chapter that from the beginning of time, there has been a reward for evil and good. The evil path that Adam and Eve chose brought death to their “spiritual” life and caused them to leave the beautiful garden that God created for them. Likewise, if we allow the things that we have heard slip away, and we chose another path of life, the consequences will be “spiritual” death as well. Jesus put all things under his feet at Calvary, giving us the authority as spirit filled belivers to live victorioius as well, chosing life and it’s rewards, rather than death and separation from God.

  11. VS 16-18
    Christ took on real humanity and through death released us from the fear of death. He did this to help his brothers for whose sins he made atonement. In taking on humanity Jesus lowered himself that he might lift us up.

  12. v 18For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

    We cannot allow temptation to overcome us. We’re going to be tempted even as Jesus was tempted, but how we handle that tempation, will determine our outcome. Our temptation should be used as a stepping stone to our elevation in God’s kingdom. God is that lifeline in the time of trouble and he is always just one prayer away.

  13. to make reconciliation for the sins of the people…

    Jesus is in the reconciliation business! He reconciles us unto Himself by His own Gospel… it was His own plan from the beginning!
    Sins are reconciled because of the blood of Jesus. Once our sins have been reconciled he can dwell inside of us! Thank you Jesus for your reconciliation.

  14. We need to never take salvation for granted, but guard it with all our might as the valuable treasure that it is. It is so very awesome to know that God created men just a little lower than the angels and He wrapped Himself in the same flesh to give us salvation.

  15. V.18 One of Gos blessing is help for the tempted because He Himself has suffered and has been temptees, He is able to aid those who are going throug it because He has been there Himself .

  16. This chapter illustrates an awesome and loving God. Jesus in order to save us made himself a body, which was capable of dying so he could be the sacrificial lamb for all of us. We are foolish when we sin simply because we are turning our back on him and crucifying him a fresh, God forgive us. Jesus knew he had to suffer death and defeat it, so we could one day live with him. Satan was foolish to think he could defeat the King of Kings and Lord of Lords; we must do our part and spread Gods Word so all can live with him. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. Verse 1 in the Message version says….

    “It’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we don’t drift off.” This is a warning to stand firm on his Word and what we believe, because we are not exempt from being tempted.

  18. Listening to Christ means not merely hearing, but also obeying. We must listen carefully and be ready to carry out his instructions. Hearing the words and more or less agreeing, but mental assent to Christ’s leadership is insufficient to be Christ’s disciple.
    Our suffering can make us more sensitive servants of God. People who have known pain are able to reach out with compassion to others who hurt.

  19. V18—-For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

  20. 2For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward.

  21. 14Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

    through His death Jesus conquered Hell and death. Many times we walk around as people scared of what the devil might be able to do to us, when he should be walking around scared of what Jesus might do through us…
