2 Peter Chapter 2

2 Peter 2

1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

5And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

6And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

7And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

8(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

9The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

10But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

11Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

12But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

13And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

14Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

15Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

16But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

17These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

18For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

19While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

20For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

21For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

22But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

  1. 20For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

    21For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

    22But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

    These are some pretty strong words. This says it all. Don’t play around with the Spirit of God.

  2. Lying Religious Leaders

    1-2But there were also lying prophets among the people then, just as there will be lying religious teachers among you. They’ll smuggle in destructive divisions, pitting you against each other—biting the hand of the One who gave them a chance to have their lives back! They’ve put themselves on a fast downhill slide to destruction, but not before they recruit a crowd of mixed-up followers who can’t tell right from wrong.
    2-3They give the way of truth a bad name. They’re only out for themselves. They’ll say anything, anything, that sounds good to exploit you. They won’t, of course, get by with it. They’ll come to a bad end, for God has never just stood by and let that kind of thing go on.

    4-5God didn’t let the rebel angels off the hook, but jailed them in hell till Judgment Day. Neither did he let the ancient ungodly world off. He wiped it out with a flood, rescuing only eight people—Noah, the sole voice of righteousness, was one of them. MSG

    I choose to stay with the TRUTH (The APOSTLES Doctrine that Paul preached and said not to change.) One LORD, One FAITH, One Baptism. Repent, be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

    Enough SAID!

    BE Church!

  3. Vs 19 says for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage

    I would be overcome with Christ. For his shackles are light, his yoke is easy, the cell he places us in leads to freedom and life everlasting. Being chained up for him keeps us in the Ark if you will, not able to fall out of the ship as it careens over the waters of this endtime world.

    We do well by committing to the ministry, serving in as many positions as we can, helping the church and being there for Pastor.

    However, if we are overcome with sin then we will be the prisoner of its heavy iron chains, rusty black enclosed confinement, and a yoke to heavy to bear.

    Paul said “I the prisoner of the Lord…”

    Being imprisoned in the house of God means you are in the house of God. Attached and chained, what better place is there to be?

  4. 9 So the Lord knows how to save those who serve him when troubles come. He will hold evil people and punish them, while waiting for the Judgment Day.

    What an assurance as we quickly approach the troubling last days. He knows how to save those who serve Him. What an awesome, powerful and mighty God we serve.

  5. This chapter is a warning to us that no one will escape the judgement of God not even the angels who were created as holy beings who had fallen because if deceptive ways, how much more shall we be judges as well.

  6. Why do we think that just because we are “christians,” we are exempt from judgement? It even says that “4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;” Who are we than? God loves us enough to die for us. That is enough for me to serve Him.

  7. V 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations ……

    We don’t need to force anything & just allow God to do what he does best, working out all of our situations. Just know that whenever you get in trouble, hand it over to God because he’s got it all in control.

  8. Lord help those that have known the way of righteousness but have turned away… help me to warn those who know the way of righteousness not to err. It’s better if you’ve not ever known than to walk away from it.

  9. v9 ” The Lord knoweth how to deliver the
    godly out of temptation,”

    Thank God for His word. He promised never to
    leave us or forsake us.
    Our patience and hope is in Him.
    God is the deliverer of the righteous.

  10. There is a book that was recently written by a man calling himself a pastor, he says that Hell is a state of mind while you are on earth. Once you die everyone goes to heaven. When questioned this man said, Well if there is a literal hell, no one will be bound there for eternity, they can always make the choice to go to heaven. Reading the verses of this chapter we see that no one is above judgement. That whether someone believes in hell is not the question, but when faced with accounting for your life, what will God say.

  11. We should be careful not to believe after a lie and return to wordliness after such time as we have sought after the truth.

  12. There are many false teachers who will sound right, feel right, look right, act right, etc. but will not be operating in God’s Spirit. Jesus spoke to His disciples about being wise as serpents and harmless as doves; we must be careful to try the spirits to see if they are of God, to look at what people are operating by. The Bible declares we wrestle not against flesh and blood, sometimes it will be difficult to spot what’s wrong through looking on the outside and that’s when we *must* look beyond appearances to see what spirit is behind them.

    The truth will defend itself, the spirit of error will eventually be revealed for the falsehood it is, however we can’t always wait for that revelation to come out in the open because by then it might be too late. We must always stand on the Word, let it be the measure by which all things must pass: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb 4:12

    Many people have lots to say that will make a lot of sense but won’t be scripturally sound. We absolutely must be rooted and grounded in the Word and have a man of God in our lives to speak the truth to us. Let your hunger and taste be for the Word of God and you’ll find over time falsehoods become easier to spot because they “taste” wrong. Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

  13. 10But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

    Despising government is not talking about Senators and the President, or the mayor, although those may be included…it is referring to the authorities that have been placed over you, such as Pastor, and how to identify spirits that are destructive to you. If anyone freely without remorse speaks ill of those God has placed as authorities over you, don’t entertain the lies that spew forth from the devil’s mouthpieces.

  14. Bro. Hassle brought a good point in his teaching on Wednesday; for what price are you going to sell your soul???

    False prophets dont get you at a blink of an eye it is a process. It begins by compromising holiness, then doctrine, then bending and compromising the truth. By then is too late and you are serving the world and false prophets.
    DO NOT DEPART FROM THE PATH OF RIGHTEOUSNESS!!!! Once you begin to think there is nothing wrong with doing a little of this or a little of that your are in your way to leaving truth behind. So watch for the warning signs they are flashing everywhere.

  15. We will all see the day of judgement and be judged by how we lived our lives and how our lives lined up with the Word of God. Now that we know the way of righteousnesss we must keep the faith.

  16. This chapter speaks of a sad reality, which is all around us. We need to wake ourselves or others will be lost, which may cause us to lose out as well. The deceiver is working at full capacity, attempting to recruit those that will spend eternity in Hell. God’s Word is full of examples of those whom listened and those that chose not to listen, we also must choose. We know what happened in the past and what shall happen in the future; therefore we must Be-Church. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. The beginning of verse 1 says…”there will be lying religious teachers among you”. We need to be alert and not be deceived.

    Verse 9 (Message Version) says…..”So God knows how to rescue the godly from evil trials. And he knows how to hold the feet of the wicked to the fire until Judgment Day.” Trust in God!

  18. 1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

    We see a prophecy that false prophets and teachers were not only prestent then but now too. With all the different demoninations out there today, we see the truth of this verse.
