2 Peter Chapter 3

2 Peter 3

1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

  1. 9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

God does not procrastinate with his promises, waiting until he feels like it, to fulfill His word. He is giving us time, because he wants all of his children to have life everlasting…but that does not mean there will be no judgement on us and we have all the time in the world, just because he loves us. Don’t procrastinate with God, because if you do, and you aren’t ready, it’s game over…there are no extra lives, so make good use of the one that He has given you.

  2. We should hold fast to the promise of Jesus return even though others may redicule us for our beliefs. This also includes all the Biblical doctrines that we hold dear.

  3. 14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

I choose this verse for a lot of people use the word diligent and dont realize the amount of work that this word involves. The meaning of diligent is characterized by steady, earnest, and energetic effort : painstaking. Painstaking means it goint to hurt, is going to cost you something, and it is not going to be easy. None the less, we must search within ourselves to make sure we are found blameless, with out spots, and in peace.

  4. The CHARGE to the CHURCH to be Consistent.

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Our relationship with Jesus is not intended to be a one time event but a lifetime process.

    1. To grow in grace means to grow in the favor of GOD. The truth of any valuable relationship is a result of TRUST. The more we trust GOD with our lives; the more of HIM he entrusts to us through revelation. Revelation from GOD brings the favor of GOD.

    2. To grow in knowledge means we will possess a better understanding of the things of GOD and the WILL of GOD.

In the charge to the church we are charged to be ALERT, through Prayer, Bible Study, and Serving in HIS Kingdom.

    BE Church

  5. 13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

  6. v18″ To Him be the glory both now and
    forever. Amen.”

We are triumphant. Lord be glorified now
    and forever more!!!

  7. 10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

    TALK ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING…

  8. It’s not time for playing around, we must live ready so we can die ready or be found ready when our Lord returns. How tragic would it be to give our lives to Jesus, but then at the last minute be turned aside and find ourselves spending eternity removed from Him… I want to be found faithful when Jesus returns or calls me to eternity, I don’t want to stand before His throne and give an account of coldness and lukewarmness. We should live every day, every hour, every minute, every moment with eternity in mind. It’s like what Bro Hassell preached Wednesday, what will we give in exchange for our soul? We must count the cost and live with the bottom line in mind.

    • Great post… along the same lines of what I was going to blog about. I’ll sum it up like this; the reason most are not willing to die for this gospel is because they’re not willing to live for it! Pastor Doug White preached with such passion and conviction on the subject of “living it,” too many people are being pulled away… it’s not time to be pulled away, it’s time to be stedfast.

  9. 8-9 Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change. The Message

God doesn’t want anyone lost. What a loving God to give us space and time to change.

  10. This chapter speaks of the last days, which we are in. It is easy to be caught up in everyday life and also easy to do the convenient thing “what everyone is doing”. We must stand strong to prevail over those that will come to tempt and we must study so we are not led astray. Our time is not God’s time and God’s time is not ours, his Word will come to pass this world will surely be destroyed we must be ever looking for Jesus. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  11. The beginning of the chapter is a reminder “to hold your minds in a state of undistracted attention.” We can’t allow ourselves to be distracted by the things of this world.

The end of verse 9 says…”He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.”

  12. 17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

Don’t become discouraged and hold strong to the truth that we all know to be true, that Jesus is comming back, and it won’t be long. We must be ready.
