2 John Chapter 1

2 John 1

1The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

2For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

3Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

5And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

7For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

12Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

13The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.

  1. 10 If someone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not welcome or accept that person into your house. 11 If you welcome such a person, you share in the evil work. NCV

Thats seems harsh at first not to be hospitable but I don’t want to share or be a part of any evil work. That’s when 1 Jn 4:1 can help “try the spirits whether they are of God”

  2. God is Love, and we must obey him,at all times…….(v13The children of the elect sister greet thee. Amen )who is he talking about? Is it maybe a special church or actually to a special lady?

  3. vs “10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”… When we send people on their way, and they haven’t taught the true doctorine, we are to be very careful as to how we dismiss them that we don’t endorse their false doctorines which they are teaching…

  4. 6And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

  5. We find again the theme in this chapter is consistency; in doctrine, in attitude, in holiness (separation) and most importantly in LOVE to GOD which will manifest itself in a LOVE for and to others.

We also find a strong warning in regards to relationships in verse:
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

This is confirmation of Pauls warning to the Corinthians along with the many historic illustrations of men entertaining women of false doctrines. it is very important to GOD that we commit ourselves to HIM and HIS doctrine FIRST and not entertain relationships that would doctrinally separate us from HIM.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

ONE Lord, ONE Faith, ONE Baptism

    BE Church

  6. A lot of churches now a day have done away with doctrine and have becomed more and more tolerant of the world. They try to call it political correctness. Sorry I prefer righteousness. Heed the warnings from the word of God. If doctrine, holiness, and Christian love with truth wasnt important God wouldnt had taken the time to write it in His word.
Being Political Correct may make you partaker of evil deeds.

9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

  7. The importance of keeping our doctrine is very evident in this chapter. Many say they love God but they are not obeying and living the truth of the doctrine. Our doctrine not only is repentance, baptism in Jesus Name, infilling of the Holy Ghost, living an overcoming, victorious life, but it is also a life of separation, holiness unto God. You can’t separate the two. Many say I believe the doctrine but not the holiness, they are one in the same. I’m standing for truth, which includes separation from the world. I love holiness unto the Lord, which is the doctrine of Jesus Christ!

  8. 6And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

WALK in love …. A daily walk. Not when I feel like it but at all times have love. Reaching for that same love that God has shown me so that I may show it to others. AMEN!!

  9. Vs 4 John rejoiced to see that the children were not taught the doctrine and the truth, but were found walking in it as well.

How much more does the Lord God rejoice to see us teach our children-and children who he puts into our lives-and then see them walk in the truth.

We must hold onto the ancient landmarks or to whom will God turn to teach the children of the next generation. We must hold onto truth and give it freely.

  10. VS 10

IF THERE COME AND BRING NOT THIS DOCTRINE.
That of Christ. If he be a deceiver an opposer of Christ one that denies that JESUS CHRIST came in the flesh. RECEIVE HIM NOT INTO YOUR HOUSE.
Do not recognize him as a brother and extend to him a brotherly welcome. He is not to be felloshipped and give him no encouragement in his work of destruction.

  11. We are encouraged to follow truth. The truth will
be with us for ever.He is the Truth.
To walk in love. That which we had from the beginning , that we love one another.
To abide in the doctrine of Christ.
The elder John talks about the joy
    of spiritual growth in truth.

  12. v8 “Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for but that you may be rewarded fully.” A caution not to become lax in faithfulness but that we abide in Christ in order to obtain our full reward.

  13. We should be careful who we say God bless to. It could be we are saying it to one who has denied Christ and then we are a partaker of their deeds.

  14. A chapter full of good things, most have already commented on. What I can’t get away from is the beautiful intro from John in this chapter…
    1The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

The elect lady, the special lady, the only lady, the beautiful lady… Who’s that lady?
The Church and… Her Children; that’s us! Everyone that knows the truth, God’s word is truth, loves this lady. The reason some people can’t fall in love with the church is because they haven’t fallen in love with the truth!

Truth, Doctrine, and Love… it all come full circle!

  15. V.10 if there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine receive him not into your house neither bid him God speed. Many years ago there was someone that wanted to witness to me in ohio he went as far to tell me that the holy ghost was not for today. As soon as he said that I asked him to leave..just to find out that day that he was a Jehovas wittness.

  16. John wrote this second letter to warn believers against inadvertently supporting false teachers. The number of itinerant evangelists and teachers had grown by the end of the first century; mixed in with the legitimate missionaries were others who were promoting heretical ideas about Christ and the gospel. Little has changed in two thousand years. Advocates of unorthodox beliefs still exist and still attempt to confuse and deceive the people of God. This letter should serve as a wake-up call to believers to be alert, to be carful, and to be solidly grounded in the faith.

  17. 5And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

Love one another. Love = God Be God to one another. We may be the only church some people will ever see. Show love.

  18. God’s word is true& there is no getting around it. If you want to be free, you have to know the truth. Most people are bound because of their lack of knowledge. The more you know, the more you grow.

  19. This chapter is the meaning of Be-Church. We are to simply love one another and keep Gods commandments, NOT worldly love but Godly love. We are to be careful of those that preach and teach false doctrines, the Word is very explicit on this, heed the Word and those that preach and teach it. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  20. 5 I am writing to remind you, dear friends, that we should love one another. This is not a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning.
6 Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning. (NLT)

    Be Church

  21. In verses 4-6 is a reminder of “Love”; the message version says….”Love means following his commandments, and his unifying commandment is that you conduct your lives in love. This is the first thing you heard, and nothing has changed.” We must live “love”.

  22. 10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

Wow. The word is clear here, we cannot bless that which is not blessing the kingdom, or we become a part of their wrong doings…
