Mark Chapter 2

Mark 2

1And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

2And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

3And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

4And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

5When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

6But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

7Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

8And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?

9Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

10But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

11I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

12And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

13And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.

14And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

15And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

16And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

17When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

18And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

19And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

20But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

21No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

22And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

23And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

24And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

25And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

26How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

27And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

28Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

  1. 17When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

When we do outreach, we don’t go to other churches. Nowadayas maybe we should..lol we wanna reach those who dont know the Lord vs. those who already do. He came for the Greatest Outreach of all time! and commissioned others who got it, to go forth. so awesome!

  2. 16And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

It’s intresting , the “spiritual” people are usually the ones who question things. This still happens to this day. God knows the heart of each person ,and knows our thoughts. Just remember that a house divided against itself cannot stand.

  3. My prayer is that this introduction would become our theme for entering HIS house. Ebery time we come to church we should experience these 2 things.

1 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

    a. It should always be NOISED that Jesus is in the house. There should be a HOLY commotion when we see HIM in the house. There should be demonic disturbance, there should be HIGH expection when we see HIM in the house and the more effective we NOISE that we see him the influence HE can have on those around us.

    b. HE presched the WORD (himself) to them. A noisy overfilled house with preaching of the WORD. Now that’s where I want to be.

    BE Church
BE Noisy about JESUS in the HOUSE!

  4. v 4 “‘Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging though it, lowered the mat and the man into the house. ”
Committment! Going the second mile for a friend. Not only did they have to tear off part of the roof but they had to dig through it to make the hole big enough to lower the man and his bed into the room.
I have to ask myself what barriers stand between my lost friends and family that I need to dig through on thier behalf! At the POFW we have been praying against the spirit of “non-committment”. We see in these verses just what committment can do!
Let’s be committed to bringing the lost to the Savior.

  5. 22And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

This is why we should speak inn tounges daily. If you ever wonder why your Holy ghost aint spilling out to the people around you ask yourself, have I put new wine in this old body today? If there aren’t people complaining about wine stains around you, chances are it’s still old wine in your bottle.

  6. 16And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

17When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

As the church the plight of the unrighteous should be the focus. Often times we can adopt a Pharisee spirit and selfishly try to keep Jesus all to ourselves. God should be able to use us and our relationships with people to call sinners unto repentence. How can this happen, if it is always about us and our needs? Building relationships and friendships with people requires fellowship. Invite a neighbor to your family game night or take a co-worker to lunch, etc…show the love of Christ to those all around you. The church cannot be an island unto itself, it has to be the hands of God. Be Church, reach out to someone today!

  7. 17When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

  8. Vs. 3-5 talk about a “bulldog attitude” of not giving up. They did all they could do to make sure their friend would be touched my the Great Physician. They stopped at nothing, no one, and no cost. My prayer is that we would be moved compassion and remove the roof for the City of Fort Worth with a ” bulldog attitude” never give up on anyone!

  9. Vs 27 the sabbath was made for man-to meet the needs of man or for the sake of man. No wonder he teaches us to keep it holy and to not forsake coming together on the sabbath. He is the Lord of the sabbath. Worshipping him is designed for us! To meet all our needs-so seek him first and he will provide all your need.

  10. v 2 ” HE PREACHED THE WORD UNTO THEM”

Pastor has been telling us to be ready for the
harvest they are on the way.
It’s about to be a noisesd even more at the POFW that
v15 JESUS IS IN HIS HOUSE.

v2″ Insomuch that there be no room to receive them, no
not so much as about the door.

We need ( I ) must respond v8 IMMEDIATELY to HIS
    Word to HIS SPIRIT.
As soon as HE speaks( Mk. 1:42) It shall be done.

GOD wants to use us to speak what HE desires to do.
Then v12 ” We also will be all amazed, and GLORIFY
GOD, saying, we never saw it on this fashion.
    PRAISE GOD !!!

  11. vs 2 21-22

The tightly sown skins of goats were often used to hold wine. The fresh skin stretched as the grape juice in it fermented. But old skin could no longer stretch so new wine would cause them to burst. The debate over Sabbath practices that follows illustrates that contemporary Jewish faith was so brittle that it had no room to stretch to meet human needs.

  12. …They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, BUT SINNERS to REPENTANCE. Sometimes I can get used to my walk with Jesus, that at times I forget to “reach out”, shame on me if stop reaching for the lost. Jesus has said in this chapter ” FOLLOW ME” Forsaking my will for HIS!! AS my Pastor would say “Follow Me as I Follow Christ”

  13. People who are hurt or sick go to the hospital… if there were not sick or hurting people in the hospital it would be a country club or more like a lobby.

  14. Jesus first told the man with the palsy that his sins were forgiven. Then he tells him to take up his bed and go. James 5:15 reads, “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” I am thankful to know today that my Saviour, Jesus Christ, is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is the Great Physician. He is the healer of the soul and of the body.

  15. It seemed like the Pharisees was always in Jesus business, everywhere He went, they were there. It is just like the enemy, whenever we try to do go, the Bible says evil is present. We must have the tenacity that the men who brought the sick of the palsy to Jesus. They were determined to accomplish their goal, getting him to Jesus to be healed. We must make up in our minds, that no matter what obstacles are placed in our way, we are going to accomplish our goal, and that is to be Jesus to everyone we meet. Their are sick waiting to be healed, bound waiting to be loose, blinded eyes and deaf ears to be opened. God is waiting on us …. let’s move the obstacles and get them to Jesus!

  16. All of the comments are so awesome. verse2 NLT Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. Just by word of mouth they came from every where to see him. even if they were sick they still came ……..

  17. v 4And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

5When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

    Great faith equals GREAT results.

  18. This chapter illustrates how to Be-Church. “And it was noised that he was in the house. And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them”. When we become as God would have us to be and as pastor is leading us towards this will be said of POFW. We should ALL pray/hunger and strive for this; this is “Be-Church”. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. 17 When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” (NLT)

  20. We can have faith for our friends when maybe they are lacking faith and God will honor it and provide for their need. That is why we need to be ready to listen to each other.

  21. oppertunity— Jesus taught and instructed whereever he went, and when oppertunity would present itself, he would heal too.
