Mark Chapter 3

Mark 3

1And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.

2And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.

3And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.

4And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

5And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

6And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

7But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea,

8And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.

9And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.

10For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.

11And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

12And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.

13And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.

14And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,

15And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

16And Simon he surnamed Peter;

17And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:

18And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,

19And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.

20And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.

21And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.

22And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.

23And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?

24And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

26And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

27No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

28Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

29But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

30Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

31There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.

32And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.

33And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?

34And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

  1. 33And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?

34And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

I grew up Catholic, so I can get calling your pastor “father” ..but never did we address each other as brothers or sisters. I was actually not aware that I wasn’t using this message to its fullest until impact training (thank you sis Jane your awesome!) and I want to appoligize to any of my sisters or brothers if you have ever felt offended that I did not address you as such. I love my church family!

  2. 17And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:

    World English Dictionary:
    1. New Testament a nickname applied by Jesus to James and John in Mark 3:17
    2. a fiery preacher, esp one with a powerful voice

    Just a thought…What would Jesus surname/nickname me?

  3. v 5 NIV “He looked around at them in anger and ,deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts…….”
A picture of the compassion that Christ had for his accusers; the religious leaders of that time. Angry at their “religious” pretenses yet; saddened for them. Lest, we never forget that we can hate sin ( as Pastor said last night) but we should grieve for the lost.

  4. Jesus ministry was growing at such a fast past that his friend did an intervention in vs 21 then his family came lioiking for him in vs. 31. imagine being so caught up in the work of God that your friends have to remind you to eat and your family has to send you messages becuase the congregation is to big for them to get to you. WOW

  5. Then he spoke to the people: “What kind of action suits the Sabbath best? Doing good or doing evil? Helping people or leaving them helpless?” No one said a word.

we do good when ever we can 7 days a week not 6……all the time

  6. 24And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

    We MUST be unified!

  7. 33And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?34And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

We are all family ,and as such we need to treat each other with the same respect. No one is better than the other. Why do we think that one ministry is better than another, when we are all important to the workings of the church. Music ministry is just as important as Childrens ministry ,and Outreach ministry as Greeting ministry. We all are equal and we need to remember this. God loves all of us the same , no matter what race, culture, age , or walk of life your from. I’m reminded of the song,”Your my brother,Your my sister. So take me by the hand. Together we will work till He comes. There’s no foe that can defeat us when stand side by side….”

  8. JESUS gives us here the prescription to and formula to DE-FEET satan!

26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

We must turn satan against himself, we accomplish that by resisting temptation or his attempts to deceive, persuade or challenge us to rebel or disobey the WORD of GOD.

For example in Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

When resisted; satan leaves and returns to himself rejected and defeated. The key to resisting the devil is submission to GOD.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. KJV

In our proven established submission to GOD we reject satan and his attempts to deceive us thereby turning satan against himself because of failure to succeed in deceiving the believer. This is why it is so important for us to be Spiritually covered and submitted to HIS will.

BE Church – Resist the devil and he will flee.

  9. v 5 ” And when he had looked round about on them
with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts”

This tells me how GOD feels about unbelief .
” Today if ye will hear His voice, v8 Harden not your hearts”
With GOD all things are possible .
    ONLY BELIEVE.

  10. 11And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

Jesus Christ the same, yesterday, today and forever.

  11. The first few verses of this chapter remind me of a church setting today. There are those who come to church to worship and receive healing in their lives, and there are those who sit by with a hard heart and refuse to worship or receive God’s word. How angry and grieved God must be with these people! Yet in His mercy and grace, He still heals those who have come to receive healing from Him.

  12. The RELIGIOUS ones were always trying to find fault in Jesus; the sinners and diseased were always trying to find healing in him, deliverance in him, mercy in him. Be careful you don’t find yourself looking for the wrong things in Jesus, or among the brethren.

  13. This chapter emphasis togetherness. We must join together and Be-Church if we are to be used by God and reach the lost; “And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand”. God’s Word shows us and pastor has taught us how togetherness in Jesus name, for Jesus will bring victory to defeat satan and his devils. It is imperative that we stand firm on the Rock (Word) and back the man of God; “For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother”. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  14. 24And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

26And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

This shows the importance of having unity. To be linked together with chords that are not broken but welded and fit together so as not to let any evil thing come against us; the church. We are the body of Christ and at all times must have the mind of Christ.

Blessed be the name of the Lord!

  15. The Message version: 22-27The religion scholars from Jerusalem came down spreading rumors that he was working black magic, using devil tricks to impress them with spiritual power. Jesus confronted their slander with a story: “Does it make sense to send a devil to catch a devil, to use Satan to get rid of Satan? A constantly squabbling family disintegrates. If Satan were fighting Satan, there soon wouldn’t be any Satan left. Do you think it’s possible in broad daylight to enter the house of an awake, able-bodied man, and walk off with his possessions unless you tie him up first? Tie him up, though, and you can clean him out.

A constantly squabbling family disintegrates. We must be unified in our personal families and our church family. We are the body of Christ no matter where we are. There is strength in unity.

  16. 24And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

A reminder of how important unity is to the church family!

  17. Throughout this chapter it shows fast the ministry was growing. The disciples ate, slept and breathed ministering out to those around them and to me that is so awesome! One thing that saddened me is Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him…. could they have added ministering inward to have prevented this from happening or won him back? If we are the body and the body was made to heal itself, could the outcome for Judas been different?…. Just a thought

  18. 5And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand.

This passage says he did this in anger.

Anger in the Greek here means 03709
3709 orge or-gay’ from 3713; properly, desire (as a reaching forth or excitement of the mind), i.e. (by analogy), violent passion (ire, or (justifiable) abhorrence); by implication punishment:–anger, indignation, vengeance, wrath. see GREEK for 3713

Violent Passion is the way he looked on the doubters, looked at the man with the withered hand, and shouted STRETCH FORTH THINE HAND!

This is an example of what the bible means when it says “be angry and sin not”

We must hate sin, and then use that anger. Channel it to do the work of God. By properly using this Passion, Jesus demonstrated to us the wondrous miracle in this man’s life.

  19. vs 24-27 Jesus here describes the important of unity in an organization: church , home, business. We must to do all we can to stay united to the cause of caring this Gospel to the Region of Fort Worth.

  20. Verses 23-27 in the NLT read….”Jesus called them over and responded with an illustration. “How can Satan cast out Satan?” he asked. “A kingdom divided by civil war will collapse. Similarly, a family splintered by feuding will fall apart. And if Satan is divided and fights against himself, how can he stand? He would never survive. Let me illustrate this further. Who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man like Satan and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger—someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house.”

These verses remind us that we need to be in unity…..our homes, our families, our church….without division!

  21. 24And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

small tidbit for young parents; the kids know this too and do caapitalize on it…
