Mark Chapter 4

Mark 4

1And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

2And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

3Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:

4And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

5And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

6But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

7And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

8And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

9And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

10And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

11And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

12That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

13And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

14The sower soweth the word.

15And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

16And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

17And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.

18And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

19And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

20And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

21And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

22For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

23If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

24And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

25For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

26And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

27And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

28For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

29But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

30And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

31It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:

32But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

33And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

34But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

35And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

36And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

37And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

41And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

  1. 22For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
24And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.25For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

Sooner or later the truth is going to come out. Everybody tries to hid it because its not convenient. We try to hide the truth as he speaks of the lamp under the bed. If you do its gonna burn down your bed, huh. Secrets, Lies, Deceits they get all taggled up in a web, that chokes the truth out of our lives.
Jesus wants the lamp to be put up on a stand that all may see. With knowing this truth, their is a responsibility of carrying it out in our lives. He warns of the disaster coming to those who don’t display heed. You could loose everything you have, or you could gain more than you imagined.

  2. v 39…..and the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
Jeremiah 31v35 NIV “This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar, the Lord almighty is his name.”
He made the seas and He can calm the seas.
Another affirmation that Jesus is God.

  3. This chapter could be titled:

“Understanding the Obstacles to Producing Fruit”

Jesus shares a parable and then explains it to the disciples for an illustration for us to understand his purpose in parables. He shares the parable of the seed as a result of HIS divine desire to see the fruit of HIS life in our daily living.

Here in verse 34 we find the key to understanding GOD:
34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

When they were alone! HE expounded ALL!

We must take the time to get alone with JESUS.

I am confident that alone tome with Jesus will enable and create this type of AWE of Jesus in our lives as well: 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

  4. 40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

Have faith that God is in control , because He is in control over everything. Have peace!

  5. Going from verses 13-20, we should be the seed that lands on good soil,
accepting God’s word and will and Be Church to all those around.

20 And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” (NLT)

  6. With ” The Peace Speaker”, “JESUS” in our ship.
We will never lose our way
We can not help but win
Our hope and faith is in HIM
We will have ever lasting peace.

  7. I’m glad to know that when we are going through the storms of this life, and we feel like we are being tossed to and fro, all we have to do is call out to the Master, and He will hear our cries. All He has to say is one little phrase “PEACE, BE STILL,” and the storm will be calmed in our lives. Phil. 4:7 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

  8. V37-38 “37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?”

It says that the boat was NOW full. Sometimes we get to a point of desperation where we say “my situation is NOW critical, I am NOW at my limit, Jesus NOW I need You…” Attitude is critical at this point. The disciples came running to Jesus saying “help us or we’ll die!” They lacked an attitude of faith, which Jesus called them out on. They believed Jesus was their answer, they believed He was able, but they lacked a key point of relationship which is trust.

When the storm rages and we realize we are at a NOW point, that’s when we must have NOW faith. Heb 11:1 “NOW faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Jesus is our very present help, He is with us alway, He is the friend that sticks closer than a brother; our faith must be in line with our God. Too often by faith we make our God be in line with our problem. We say “my problem is *this big* and since Jesus is my answer, He must be just *that big* too.” Instead of letting our faith define our God, we should let our God define our faith.

Eph 3:20 describes He “…is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worth in us.” It reads EXCEEDING abundantly. Abundantly means He can fill our cup with some to spare. Exceeding abundantly means He keeps on filling our cup and there’s always more than enough; my cup didn’t just run over once, my cup continually *runneth over.* Our God isn’t just big enough for *this* problem, He is more than enough for every problem and He is more than enough right NOW.

That verse also says this is according to the power that worketh in us. We have to remember we are not the answer, Jesus is. The verse doesn’t say according to our power that worketh in Him. Sometimes we just need to remember to take our hands off the controls and let Him work in us and in our situation so He can work it out.

Rom 8:28 “And we know all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”

    Trust God
    Be Faithful
    Be Church

  9. 20 “But the seed planted in the good earth represents those who hear the Word, embrace it, and produce a harvest beyond their wildest dreams.” MSG

Harvest beyond our wildest dreams = The City of Fort Worth! Let’s prepare the soil as one body with true worship, prayer and fasting.

  10. 21And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? And to be set on a candlestick.

Lord help me to Let My Light Shine!

  11. vs-19
    THE WORRIES OF THIS LIFE
Christ is stating a fact of life. In the world there are concerns we must take care of. Some times our concerns and focus are carried to far . The point Jesus teachings are that we must commit ourselves to God and put him first trusting him to meet our needs.

  12. We never know which type of soil that the seed is falling into. It could be the good soil that takes root and grows, or the soil that that the cares of life choke it out, no matter what the soil, we must handle our responsibility of nuturing the individual, be-friending them, caring for them, and let God give the increase. He is ultimately the one responsible for what type of fruit the seed will bare.

  13. 24And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
40And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
God has control over the outcome of everything. Don’t be afraid if your not heard because the person who did not listen will pay for their actions down the road.

  14. This chapter has several deep parables. God knew and just as pastor has said the Word is strong, therefore the use of parables was and is still used today. We need to mature in the Lord (grow thicker skin) so we can learn and move deeper in God, else; “the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful”. We will have a ruler (idol) in our lives and we will all follow someone, let’s choose to Be-Church and follow Jesus. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  15. The parable of the sower shows us that not everyone will recieve the truth of God’s word as we know it. However, our job is to sow the seed of his word and let the individual and God do the rest.

  16. I many saints have sowed the Word on good ground? When the word has been planted in our lives, we must water it, so that it may grow. Are you taking care of the seed you’ve planted?

  17. Throughout this chapter it says (verses 9 and 23 Message Version)….”Are you listening to this? Really listening?” Question: Are we listening???? Really listening???? Sometimes we may be so busy looking for an answer, we miss the clear response he has given us.
