Mark Chapter 5

Mark 5

1And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

2And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

3Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

4Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

5And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

6But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

7And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

8For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

10And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

11Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

12And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

13And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

14And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

15And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

16And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

17And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

18And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

19Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

20And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

21And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

22And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

23And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

24And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

25And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

35While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

39And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

40And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

41And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

  1. By taking interest and helping the one man no one even wanted to be around, Jesus began a chain reaction of miracles and a revival that affected the whole town.

No one is an untouchable. The qualifications to be witnessed to are you must be alive and breathing.

  2. NLT verse 25. A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. verse 27 she had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe.
That was all it took for Jesus to touch and heal her after many years of dealing with this issue. This is a true act of faith.

  3. 36As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

  4. I love this chapter. Jesus cast out devils, healed the sick, and raised the dead. Like I said the other day, “Jesus is the healer of the body and of the soul.”
One of my favorite parts to this chapter is the fact that the man that was possessed, after Jesus healed him, was sitting, clothed , and in his Right Mind. Then Jesus tells him to GO and tell his friends the Great Things the Lord had done for him. This is exactly what Jesus has done for all of us. He forgave us, cleansed us, raised us up, and set us free, and gave us a right mind, and then commands us to GO and BE CHURCH!

  5. v 40 “But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. v41 He took her by the hand and said to her “Talitha koum.” which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Immediately the girl stood up……
After he put them all out. ( Those who were laughing with unbelief.) Only the ones with faith witnessed the miracle!

  6. v 29 “And she felt in her body, that she was healed of that plague.”

Ther is nothing like a personal experience of
    the healing power of JesusChrist.
v30 ” Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself ”
Jesus knew someone in need had touched
    Him….There was a communcaion….A Touch.
The touch that means so much.

V33 ” But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing
    what was done in her”
It’s so amazing that sometimes we ask the good Lord
to do something for us, and when He does it scares
us half to death. I’d rather worship and thank GOD
for the touch that means so much. He’s Touch

  7. The Devils Answered Prayer

12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

The power of prayer is amazing! Jesus even answered the prayer of the devil. At the expense of the swine. Notice that evil spirits will cause casualty. It is very costly to entertain evil spirits; there wlll always be an innocent bystander that will be harmed.

1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

The devils prayer being answered was according to the WILL of GOD and reveals the favor of man over over animal. We must seek the WILL of GOD and ask prayers according to HIS WILL not attempt to change GOD to agree with our will; this is how many are frustrated in prayer, we cannot make GOD do what we desire but he quickly do what we ask according to HIS WILL. HE will even answer the devils prayer.

This fact should build our confidence in prayer, that if JESUS will answer the prayer of the devil; I KNOW he will answer the of HIS children; ask according to HIS WILL.

    BE Church
    PRAY

  8. 28For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

Sometimes we rely on doctors too much when all we need to do is what this woman did and touch Jesus for our healing

  9. The man with the legion of devils is the prerfect example of how Jesus wants to work in all our lives. He came filled with evil, Jesus cleansed him and he was in his right mind, asking can He follow Jesus when Jesus got on the ship. Instead Jesus told him to go back and tell what had happened to him.

If we will choose to sit with Jesus everyday, in our righteous minds, then when He feeds us from His word, we will go share it with others, we will truly be living out “BE CHURCH”

  10. Jesus was on his way to heal Jariuss daughter but the women did not let that stop her from getting her miracle. Too many times we see someone getting a blessing and we sit on the side wondering when it’s going to be our turn. When god is moving, it is our turn we just need to step in there and say ahey god you look busy but I ain’t going to let you forget about me

  11. 26And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

If we are looking for answers everywhere except for in Jesus, we will only get worse.

27When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

When we press in towards Jesus and touch Him, situations will change!

  12. 34And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

Jesus addresses her as Daughter just for having enough faith, to move out of her comfort zone. She made a move in faith, that faith brought her to healing. How much more do you think he wants to heal us too?

  13. 4Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
6But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

Jesus can tame the untameable, deliver the most possessed, the most addicted. But we have to be willing to allow Him to.
Two thousand devils could not hold the man back from running and worshipping at Jesus’ feet. At Jesus’ feet is where deliverence was.

  14. Unclean spirits ran and worshiped Jesus because they knew who He was and the power that he had… We have no excuse not to worship Him when we know so much about Him.

    I won’t be out-worshiped by a devil or a rock!

  15. The man with the unclean spirit that no one could tame, or control could not be controlled from worshiping Jesus! No matter how many demons fight against you, you can be delivered! Just worship Him! Vs 6

  16. This chapter is just as relevant today. Why is it when we run from God and we claim we want to be our own person/be an individual, we actually end up looking and acting like society. Whereas when we run to God we truly are going against society; “And see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind”. We need to Be-wise and do as God’s Word instructs and Be-Church and do as pastor teaches so we are not the one that has to be put out so Jesus can work; “And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise”. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. The cry of the unclean spirit v. the cry of the Holy Spirit:

V5-7 “5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.”

Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.””

Romans 8:15 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”

The unclean spirit was one that held the man in a state of torment, crying out, and caused a dis-identification with God (v7, the question is asked to Jesus “what have I to do with You?”).

1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”

When we are born again and made free in God, we see the doorway for the switch. God does not give us the spirit of bondage again to fear, which means fear (which causes torment) is tossed out with the infilling and regeneration of God’s Spirit (who is love, 1 John 4:16) in our lives. Through Jesus, we can do away with the bondage, fear, and torment, and instead be made whole in His love. Instead of crying out in torment and dis-identification with Christ, we can cry out along with His Spirit in love and of our identification with Him as His children. Praise God for His love and mercy!

  18. V.36 ….Be not afraid only believe. Need to be like the lady with the issue of blood, she put her faith into action!!

  19. The demoniac shows us that no matter what state of demise we are in, if we will only begin to worship Jesus, we can come out of that state.

  20. Sometimes all we have to do is reach out and touch him and our infirmity will be healed. We as children of God must learn to take a step of faith and watch God do what he does best.

  21. Verse 34 in the Message version says…..”Jesus said to her, “Daughter, you took a risk of faith, and now you’re healed and whole. Live well, live blessed! Be healed of your plague.”

Verse 36 says…”Jesus overheard what they were talking about and said to the leader, “Don’t listen to them; just trust me.”

We need to do just that, “take a risk of faith and just trust him”!!

  22. 6But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
7And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

Wow. even the demons worshiped Jesus before begging for mercy…

40And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

Jesus ran off those who were disbelieving…Earlier in this book Jesus used unbelief as a reason to show His power when He was asked to ” help him through his unbelief.” With “unbelief” there is still room for the impossible to take place, though one may not know how, but with disbelief, a person takes the stance that it cannot happen, peroid.
