Mark Chapter 7

Mark 7

1Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.

2And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.

3For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

4And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

5Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

6He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

7Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

8For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

10For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

11But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

12And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

13Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

14And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

15There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

16If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

17And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

18And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

19Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

20And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

21For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

22Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

23All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

24And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.

25For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

26The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

27But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

28And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.

29And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

30And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

31And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

32And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.

33And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

34And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

35And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

36And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

37And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

  1. 20 -23He went on: “It’s what comes out of a person that pollutes: obscenities, lusts, thefts, murders, adulteries, greed, depravity, deceptive dealings, carousing, mean looks, slander, arrogance, foolishness—all these are vomit from the heart. There is the source of your pollution.” this is from the message bible………

Trash in Trash out, we have to be careful who/what we are listening to and hanging around with…….

  2. 7Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

8For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Talking the talk is good, walking the walk is better. Tradition can’t save you, Jesus can.

  3. 21For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,22Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

These come from within. We need to protect our hearts from these things.

  4. Impressing Jesus!

27 He said, “Stand in line and take your turn. The children get fed first. If there’s any left over, the dogs get it.”

28 She said, “Of course, Master. But don’t dogs under the table get scraps dropped by the children?”

29-30 Jesus was impressed. “You’re right! On your way! Your daughter is no longer disturbed. The demonic affliction is gone.” She went home and found her daughter relaxed on the bed, the torment gone for good.

    What happened that impressed Jesus?

I do not believe it was her request. Many times we ask and do not impress Jesus.

I do not believe it was her her knowledge of proper order. Often we know and follow order.

I believe it was her “faith demonstrated with humility”, her mindset of “if I could just get a fragment of what you have” that would be enough.

We must be mindful of who our words or actions will impress; choose today to impress JESUS!

  5. V27-29 LBT “Jesus told her, “First I should help my own family–the Jews, It isn’t right to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.'” She replied, “That’s true, sir, but even the puppies under the table are given some scraps from the childrens’ plates.” “Good!” he said, “You have answered well–so well that I have healed your little girl. Go on home, for the demon has left her!”
This was a Gentile woman. What if the she had been offended when Jesus said that his own people deserved the feast before anyone else? She would have walked away without her miracle! Yet, her humble persistance brought about healing in her child. Pride will rob us of our blessings.

  6. They asked him, why don’t they wash there hands like we do? Those who were watching this scenario expected an explanation dealing with hygiene, but God looks on the heart.

They were adamant about holding the traditions, but not the law of God. Sometimes being good isn’t being right. It was a good practice for sanitary reasons, and there was nothing wrong with them washing up. Still Jesus cared more about there eternity than there present.

being eternity minded can help us to be focused on the the things of the spirit.

like pastor said last night “Abel was dead to the Earth, but Cain was dead to the Spirit”

For us to truly reach the high holy mountain of God we must be dead to the world and Alive in him!

  7. Vs. 20 – 23 The things described in these verses are things of the world and are evil. They fulfill the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. They are not of God, but of the world. (1 John 2:16) Phil. 4:8 tells us to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and things of a good report. These things will help us to have a clean heart before God.

  8. In this scripture, there is a lot to learn in what really is inside a man. Do you really have what is pure, what is good, what is noble, in your life. Are you really taming that tongue or being cautious with your walk, disciplining that flesh, being careful with what you watch, hear, or taste! Think about it, before it’s too late. “Listen, Listen, Listen”…”Hearken, Hearken, Hearken”……”Faith cometh by Hearing, and by hearing the Word of God.”

14And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

15There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

My need is to be close to him….Jesus Christ…can’t be matched with anything in this world.

  9. 6He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

Let us not get so caught up in telling of His goodness that we forget to spend time “with” him.

  10. 7-14 TO THE CROWD
How often in church history have spiritual leaders been out of touch with God and revival been a lay movement. Here the leaders will not listen so Jesus speaks to the crowd.

  11. 6He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me….

9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

***People get offended if you don’t shake their hand…can you imagine Jesus (in the flesh) walking in our churches today…How many would get offended by his tone of voice?

    WOULD JESUS OFFEND YOU?
    WOULD JESUS OFFEND ME?

THAT IS WHY I PRACTICE RESPECTING LEADERSHIP…EVEN IF THEY SPEAK HARSH WITH ME…JESUS IS OUR FATHER AND HE KNOWS WHAT IT TAKES TO GET OUR ATTENTION.

    • vs.27 He basically called the woman a dog…What if the preacher called you a dog…how many would pack up their bags and leave…BUT THE HUMBLE RESPONSE FROM THE LADY ALLOWED HER TO GET HER PRAYER ANSWERED…

      • WANT REVIVAL?

Isa 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to REVIVE the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

  12. vs 26-30 The woman had faith to stay even when Jesus’ first response did not seem to be in her favor. She did not give up and go away. After Jesus saw her faith he provided her miracle.

  13. 7Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

8For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Deut 11:13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

It we truly love Him and serve Him with all our hearts, there will be no opportunity to follow the commandments of men rather than God. Our life will be in tune with the Spirit and we will be lead by the Spirit as the Word promises. It is when we become desensitized to the Spirit by carnal ways that we leave the commandments of God and follow the commandments of man.

  14. 6He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
    12And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
13Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

God expects more than lip service and traditions of man. He wants action and HIS commandments followed.

  15. 9And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

As time continues, we see more and more of this, with the continued legalization of abortion, same sex marriages, and the list goes on and on. People think that they are so smart, and keep changing laws from the Ten Commandments, that God gave us before, to whatever they feel would meet the least resistance. We as the church need to fight to keep our hearts and our motives pure- to serve Him, and to bring Him glory. We need to keep clean what goes in and what comes out.

  16. I love to dress up and look sharp. Even in high school i wore polyester plaid suits and a tie. I had a good job and a white shirt and tie was required. But something in these scriptures reminded me of Matt.23;1=12. Jesus rebuked the spiritual leaders at that time for the way they dressed. To be seen of men, to’Be Holy”.Sometimes I need to put things in perspective in how I dress so it doesn’t become a stumbling block to me. Lord let the inward me be as clean as my outside appearance and keep pride out of my heart!!!

  17. 8For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
If your not willing to do the small things, why even do any of it at all?
everything matters to God, even the little stuff

  18. It is my desire to be genuine in my walk with God and purehearted. Our lives and actions should reflect Jesus everyday.

  19. CEV v37 ” Everything he does is good! He even heals
people who cannot hear or talk.”

Lord anoint our spiritual ears. So that we may hear and t
speak what you desire us to speak and hear your
Words, your request and your desires.
    Thank you Jesus

  20. 28And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.

  21. 10For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

  22. Verses 20-23 Message Version say…”He went on: “It’s what comes out of a person that pollutes: obscenities, lusts, thefts, murders, adulteries, greed, depravity, deceptive dealings, carousing, mean looks, slander, arrogance, foolishness—all these are vomit from the heart. There is the source of your pollution.”
