Mark Chapter 9

Mark 9

1And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

2And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

3And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

4And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

5And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

6For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

7And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

8And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

9And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

10And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.

11And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?

12And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

13But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

14And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.

15And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

16And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?

17And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;

18And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

19He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

20And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

21And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.

22And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

23Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

24And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

25When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

26And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

27But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

28And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

29And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

30And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.

31For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

32But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

33And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?

34But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

35And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

36And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,

37Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

38And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.

39But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

40For he that is not against us is on our part.

41For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

42And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

43And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

44Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

45And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

46Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

47And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

48Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

49For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

  1. Vs 2 Peter, James and John seem to be favored. In Matt 17:1, Mark 5:37, Mark 14:32, and Luke 8:50 it says that Jesus allowed and led these men to a deeper and more intimate experience with Him. My prayer is that POFW would seize the opportunities to go deeper in our relationship with Christ. We are favored by God! Let’s dive in deep and Be Church!

  2. 49For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Whenever I go to the bazaar or town center mall I love to get these little fruit cups and they put chili seasoning (which has salt) and lemon. Its awesome. Well It once was sweet, but now its salty and sour. Its now completely changed. It wouldn’t taste the same if it was just lemon, it needed salty chili seasoning to counteract the flavor. All the ingredients serve there own purpose in the snack, and if they lost their flavor they would be useless. Jesus says that he despises the lukewarm, he spits it out. In that matter I wanna be a firey pepper salt mixure lol! But for real I pray we can have the passion to be potent and on fire!

  3. 29And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

This scripture has shown me that my walk isn’t where it could be. There is much more to a walk with God than going to church and being a “good christian.”

  4. V 27 “But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.”
Amp:” But Jesus took (a strong grip of) his hand and began lifting him up, and he stood.”
Ps 63v8 NIV “My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.”
Tenderness and power as he reached out to lift up the child.

  5. Vs. 49 “For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.”

We are all going to be tested and tried in this life. Just like the boy that Jesus healed, we sometimes feel like we have been cast into the fire, and sometimes it feels like we are drowning. Jesus said, ” If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth,” in other words have FAITH.

1Peter 1:7 says, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, thou it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.”

  6. V.23 Jesus said unto him, if thou canst believe, ALL THINGS are POSSIBLE to him that believeth. That’s all that is required!! Thank you Jesus!!!

  7. VS. 23 There is power in belief and in prayer. Through faith we can pray and believe that God will answer our prayers.

  8. 42 “But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone hung around your neck.
43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands.
45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one foot than to be thrown into hell with two feet.
47 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It’s better to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,
48 ‘where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out.’
49 “For everyone will be tested with fire.[m] 50 Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.” (NLT)

  9. Believe pray fast cast out

Jesus made it simple. We pray to get in the presence of God and to align our will with his. We fast to rid ourselves of the excess flesh and become more sensitive to the Spirit.

If we are going through a chaotic circumstance, we may just need to look in the mirror.

Have we been praying without ceasing?
Are we bogged down by the world system?

Depression may not be felt just cause “its one of those days”

By close examination we can determine that the spirit of depression is at work.

Jesus said to not fear the world because he already overcame it! He gave us this authority to cast out demons in his name. If its not happening, we may need a check up from the neck up.

  10. THE REVELATION WILL BE TESTED

4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

Peter was so caught up in the moment of seeing the prophets that he as one translation states “blurted” out lets make 3 tabernacles here.

The challenge with this is the seeming equality that Jesus was bring to Jesus/Moses/Elias. Thereby prompting the audible voiice of GOD to affirm HIS own fleshly being. Two identifiable facts of this encounter are:

    a. Full revelation of the deity of JESUS had not been revealed or Peter would have said, “Let’s build you a tent and remain here”. as supposed in Mark 8:29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. The revelation of Peter’s understanding was tested immediately and we should expect ours to be tested as well.

    b. In verse 7 the Cloud or COVERING of the MAN Jesus; HIS own omnipotent SPIRIT spoke in defense of and affirmation of JESUS. If we are under authority our COVERING will defend and affirm us.

    BE Church
    STAY UNDER YOUR COVER

  11. 28And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

29And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

We must be faithful in prayer and fasting

  12. 23Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

My prayer today is that I can believe God to do the things in me, through me, and through POFW that He desires yet seems impossible to the natural. What I may feel is impossible becomes a possibility when I put ALL my trust in God.

  13. 9-24
Faith has two aspects objective and subjective. Objectively our faith is in Jesus and he is unshakable. Subjectively our faith is often mixed with hesitancy and doubt. The way to overcome uncertainty is to rember that what makes faith valid is not to subjective strength but trustworthiness of its object. We can confidently affirm this truth I CANT BUT JESUS CAN.

  14. 3Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

24And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

He can do all things when we believe-even help our unbelief! God has planned and prepared for every circumstance-we just need to take advantage of all his benefits!

  15. 24And straightway the father of the child crieD Out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

25When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

The desperation of the father appealed to the compassion of Christ. The father’s cry of help my unbelief was a recognition of his own weakness. When we can recognize our weakness then God can be made strong and be glorified.

  16. When the disciples asked why could we not cast it out and Jesus responded this kind cometh out only by prayer and fasting many times this verse is misquoted and people say much prayer and fasting. But the word much is not in the bible these guys who were with Jesus weren’t praying and fasting. We need to watch our steps because I don’t want to be reproached by god and when I ask I don’t want to hear him say, well you could have but you weren’t praying or fasting

  17. 50 Salt is good. But if it no longer tastes like salt, how can it be made salty again? Have salt among you and live at peace with each other. CEV

50 “Salt is good; but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? “Have the salt of friendship among yourselves, and live in peace with one another.”GNT

I loved Pastor’s message tonight. A little pain but LOTS of growth!
Something I’d like to call Growing Pains. 🙂

  18. 42 And whoever causes one of these little ones (these believers) who acknowledge and cleave to Me to stumble and sin, it would be better (more profitable and wholesome) for him if a [huge] millstone were hung about his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.

    Cause and Effect

  19. v 24 ” And said with tears”.
GOD knows the language of our tears , and HE does not take our tears and prayers lightly.

” I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears:
    I will heal thee ” 2 Kings 20:5

  20. 28And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

29And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

when we see this happenin our lives, we need to not be discouraged, but incouraged that it is possible, and we are on the right track. We also need to take our walk to the next level and pray and fast more that next time Jesus might use us….

  21. This chapter illustrates the power of Prayer and Fasting. We live in a world with all kinds of disbelieve in God the Father, however there is all kinds of believe in the gods of this world such as; astrology, witchcraft, nature and false prophets to name a few. For this very reason Gods Word instructs and Pastor preaches and teaches that we must be full of the Holy Ghost; “And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.” How can we Be-Church and reach the lost if we never pray or fast. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  22. 23Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

We have to believe in the power God posses,, We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!

  23. 29And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

This scripture lets us know why it’s important to fast and pray. You never know what type of spirit or when an evil spirit will decide to challenge you. Let’s stay in prayer and keep fasting.
