Luke Chapter 6

Luke 6

1And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.

2And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?

3And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;

4How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?

5And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

6And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.

7And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.

8But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.

9Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

10And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

11And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

12And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

13And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

14Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

15Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,

16And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.

17And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;

18And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.

19And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

20And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

21Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

22Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.

23Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

24But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

25Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

26Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

27But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

29And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.

30Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

31And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

32For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

33And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

34And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

35But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

36Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

37Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

38Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

39And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?

40The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

41And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

42Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

43For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

44For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

45A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

46And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

47Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

48He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

49But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

  1. v10 He said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand, And
he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the
    other.

Could it be that GOD wants us to stretch froth our hand ?
He wants to restore our spiritual withered hand
The hand carries the ministry and authority.
For Timothy it was a gift. 1Tim.4:14
Not only will He heal our physical bodies but will forgive our sins and heal our soul.He will give us inner peace.
    Thank you , Jesus
I believe that’s why Jesus was a man of prayer.
Lord help us to be prayerful people undistracted
as we listen to your voice.

  3. IS HE REALLY LORD?

46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Saying Jesus is LORD is possibly one of the most misused, misquoted, and misunderstood statements of our day. Jesus said so clearly in verse 26; how or why are you going to call me LORD when you do not even honor my commandments and requests.

So many people today are looking for the easiest, simplest, most convenient way to be called a Christian; society and false religion has cheapened and tainted true RELATIONSHIP with JESUS to just a simple confession. Jesus said he is only LORD of our life when we obey what he SAYS.

    His analogy:

48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

  4. Luke 6.12— And it came to pass in those days that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continue all night in prayer to God.
—- we should by now that before every decition we need to take there should be prayer envolved…(God,don’t le me repeat the same words over and over again,in my prayer time)let my prayer be fresh and pleasent unto you…..
Jesus prayed all night and then went to choose his deciples……..(v1

9)And the hole multitude sought to touch him.for there went virtue out of him and healed them all.
    _
Tthe word says:(hebrews4.16)Let us brave, then and come foard to God’s throne, where there is grace.there we will recieve mercy and find grace to help us just when we need it.
People looked foard to just touch Jesus’s garment and they were healed. Oh Lord if we just understood that you are in us,if we just understood that we can conquer anything cause we are in you,and you are in us…(HOLY SPIRIT)…
Peter used to brag on how much he loved Jesus.on the other hand John had the revelation on how much Jesus loved him.
My prayer is that we get to understand how much Jesus loves us,that we get to understand what, walking in love really means,so that we are able to love,to forgive others……no matter what…….

  5. We need to remember to rejoice when we are tried. We need to love our enemies, do good to them, and pray for them. We need to give cheerfully and expect nothing in return. We need to remember we are storing up treasures in Heaven.

  6. 35But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

I don’t know why this verse stuck out to me but it did. Maybe it’s because the command is so opposite our human & fallen nature and to see that God is kind to the unthankful & evil. How many times has HE shown me mercy & kindness when I didn’t deserve it and didn’t even realize it. Makes me thankful-NOW!

  7. 35But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.36Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.37Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:38Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

I pray that God would help me to be this. Loving and kind to others more than what I am.

  8. Luke 6:11
And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

So Jesus is in the synagogue and all the people in the place are watching this man with a withered right hand. They were waiting to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath day. Jesus shows compassion, heals the man and the Bible says they were filled with madness.

The word for madness in the Greek is

    00454
454 anoia an’-oy-ah from a compound of 1 (as a negative particle) and 3563; stupidity; by implication, rage:–folly, madness. see GREEK for 1 see GREEK for 3563

They were filled with stupidity. Religiosity, and going through the motions breeds stupidity not ignorance.

They knew what they were doing, and yet pushed the care for the man away, and the respect for Jesus

    Proverbs 2:11-15 MSG

Good Sense will scout ahead for danger, Insight will keep an eye out for you. They’ll keep you from making wrong turns, or following the bad directions Of those who are lost themselves and can’t tell a trail from a tumbleweed, These losers who make a game of evil and throw parties to celebrate perversity, Traveling paths that go nowhere, wandering in a maze of detours and dead ends.

Had the Pharisees had a relationship with the Father they would have been apart of the miracle, and not been apart from the miracle.

Lord help me to be wise and full of understanding so that I may be blessed, and help me to be close to you so that I may obey your voice and not be filled with stupidity.

  9. 46-49

    FLOODS COME
Floods rushed down slopes in Palestine sweeping everthing in their path away. Life too has its disasters. If not firmly anchored in obedience we will be swept away.

  10. I am so glad to be back to work after a week of vacation! The only computer I have is here and it is in our mailroom and shared by others.
But when the day workers leave I have an opportunity to blog. verse 19 was a blessing. We know we can reach out to Jesus and be healed. by our own faith in His healing power. We don’t need to wait on an answer because we have the answer, jesus Christ and his Healing power!!!

  11. Count yourself blessed every time someone cuts you down or throws you out, every time someone smears or blackens your name to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and that that person is uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—skip like a lamb, if you like!—for even though they don’t like it, I do . . . and all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company; my preachers and witnesses have always been treated like this. Msg Luke 6:22-23. Puts things in a different light

  12. 22Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.

23Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

This may be one of the hardest lessons that I had to learn. Its not about me, Its not personal. Its a spiritual battle, the Lord’s and its already won!

  13. The beginning of verse 3 in the Message Version reads….”But Jesus stood up for them. ” God is on our side, he will always stand up for us when we are unable to.

The end of verse 26 reads…”Your task is to be true, not popular.”

Verses 35-36 reminds me of the last couple of days of teaching….”I tell you, love your enemies. Help and give without expecting a return. You’ll never—I promise—regret it. Live out this God-created identity the way our Father lives toward us, generously and graciously, even when we’re at our worst. Our Father is kind; you be kind. “

  14. 22 God will bless you when others hate you and won’t have anything to do with you. God will bless you when people insult you and say cruel things about you, all because you are a follower of the Son of Man. 23 Long ago your own people did these same things to the prophets. So when this happens to you, be happy and jump for joy! You will have a great reward in heaven.

“Be happy and jump for joy” is much easier said than done! This flesh and mind (soul) wants so badly to override what God (the spirit living inside of us) would have us to do. We have a choice; and this choice will determine our reward.

  15. 40The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

Perfect: to be fit, sound or complete. Ethically: to strengthen, or to make one what he ought to be.

IF! If you can first be a disciple and LEARN… UNDER your master (one who teaches concerning the things of God, and the duties of man) you will be in the right position to be made PERFECT (complete) in Jesus Christ by the teaching of the word.

If you’ve got it all together… it probably in pieces; just be teachable and the Lord will PUT IT TOGETHER!

  16. Twice in this chapter the lord says to love your enemies. What a foreign concept to our flesh. I want to be obedient to God’s word.

  17. 22 What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man.
23 When that happens, be happy! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, their ancestors treated the ancient prophets that same way.

This speaks to me as a student in public school. Being the Christian girl with the really long and hear and skirts isn’t always the popular thing but these verses only remind me to be happy when others question me and that the result of it is even better.

  18. This chapter is rich and full of wisdom, for that reason it would be easy to write about many topics. One that is near and dear to everyone is that of giving, which is includes giving of; Time, Talent & Treasure. The world will say why you give, whereas God’s Word says; “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again”. A carnal mind may not give whereas a Godly mind will, God’s Word does not lie all in America are blessed. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. vs 23 Rejoice ye in thatt day,and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward great in heaven:for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. Amen : )

  20. 12And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

This is what it’s going to take to reach this city, prayer. Let’s not let our prayers go to waste, we must pray to communicate with God. This is our destiny!!

  21. 43For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

We must ask ourselves what kind of fruit are we bringing forth?
