Luke Chapter 16

Luke 16

1And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.

2And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.

3Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.

4I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.

5So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?

6And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.

7Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.

8And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

9And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

10He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

11If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

12And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?

13No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

14And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

15And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

16The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

17And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

18Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

19There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham‘s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:

28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

  1. 15And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

I think the above scripture sums up alot. Even the outcome of the one below. Either you listen and turn to God, or you won’t ..not even if someone rose from the dead.

31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

  3. 27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:

28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

After the rich mans death, he had an urgency to get Lazuras’ testimony to his family so that they would not have to be tormented as he was. This type of urgency to share my testimony to the living should be in my mouth now.

  4. 25 “NIV ” But Abraham replied, “Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus receoved bad things, but now he is comforted here and your are in agony.” The promise of comfort for those who follow Christ!

  5. 17And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

Get used to it, learn to live it, learn to love it, it’s gonna be around for a long time. It doesn’t change, and it’s not culturally effected.

  6. v15 ” but GOD KNOWETH your hearts:”
LORD search me through and through

v17 and it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

What comfort just to know” Thus Says The LORD”
The word of the Lord is glorious and abides for ever.
There is power in the living imperishable , steadfast
    and sure word of GOD.
Our future is determine by our present response to the Word Of God.
Which is the good news of
HIS GREAT MERCY AND LOVE TOWARDS US.
THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR MERCY & GRACE.

  7. 28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

The importance of a preacher is really evident in these scriptures. We must be diligent to hear the Word of the Lord when spoken by Pastor. In these scriptures Moses and the prophets were the only thing standing in between the five brothers and Hell. It was up to the brothers to listen. We have a great Pastor that stands every week in between us and eternity ( with a water pistol). It’s up to us to listen.

  8. 10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.
11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?
12 And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own? (NLT)

  9. There are many fake gods, and there is the one true God.
We need to all choose one.

I choose the one true God.
That should be all of our answers.

    God Bless!

  10. 10He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

This so true! I remember my parents telling me this all the time. I have tried to do this. We need to be found faithful to God and not ot man. Be a good steward and be found faithful to the things God gives you.

  11. The Lords steward was commended by the Lord for cutting finanial deals with all of the Lords debtors. He knew he was going to loose his job as stward so he was looking for away out. He didnt want to work hard for a living or beg so he used his position as away out. Have you noticed the vary rich have there reward hear on earth, but thay will lose in the end. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the Sons oo Light!!Luke16:18.

  12. Vs. 15 “And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.”

The above scripture made me think of the scriptures found in Proverbs 6:16-19. “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”

We need to remember that God knows our hearts and thoughts. So my prayer is Ps. 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Ps. 51:10 ” Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

  13. 31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead

  14. FIRED BY THE MASTER

2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.

The assets that JESUS has made available to us are so very important and powerful that they actually require very strict accountability. Anything of value should be accounted for. It is very important that we know and understand the value that Jesus has entrusted to our care.

We must make ourselves accountable to be good stewards of the valuables we have been trusted to oversee.

    BE Church
    BE Accountable

  15. The hardest things to hear so often seem to be the very things we most need to hear. It’s not enough to come and just sit in church week after week, there must be relationship and willingness to hear what “thus saith the Lord.” Truth remains, whether we hear and receive it or not. Warning: bumpy road ahead, soft heart required.

  16. The story of the rich man and Lazarus always makes me aware that all are given the opportunity to hear the gospel. It is up to each of us how we respond. Do we heed it? Do we reject it? Do we put it off for another time or season? We never know when the day of judgement will be for our lives so we must be ready at all times. We must live the live in front of our famlly and friends so that we don’t have to wish someone else to go and tell them about Heaven or Hell.

  17. 17And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

    God’s word will never fail.

  18. V. And he said unto him, if they heat not Moses and the prophets, meither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead…Lord help me to continue to reach for the lost!! That they may be saved!!

  19. 27Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:

28For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

Lord help me to witness now and not wait til its too late.

  20. Luke 16

This chapter has so much we can learn from. We must never think we have reached our limit, place, etc. with God, at least while we are still breathing his air. “And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God”. Life is a test and God is the judge, if we feel we need to impress someone it should be the Almighty, which a start would be, to Be-Church. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  21. Verse 1-9 speak of being a trusted faithful steward. As verse 9 in the NLT reads.,,,,”Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.”

Verse 15 reads..”Then he said to them, “You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.”

The end of the chapter tells me about being an all the time, constant, never stopping, willing witness for God. We are always witnessing whether we realize it or not; the question is for who? Lord help me to always reflect your light!

  22. 13No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

you have to pick one side.

  23. we must be wise with what God has intrusted us with so that he will give us more to do for his kingdom. Even our wealth is for his kingdom.

  24. 15And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God

Man today esteems the same things they did in the days of the Bible. Power over others, riches (which also brings power), recognition of accomplishments or wisdom, and more. With the incorrect attitude, we can find ourselves displeasing God. But by putting His kingdom first-He will add all things to us. This involves having the correct attitude of riches or knowledge and influence over others! Then we can be trusted with the blessings of God.
