Luke Chapter 17

Luke 17

1Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

2It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

3Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

4And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

5And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

6And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

7But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?

8And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

9Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.

10So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

11And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

12And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

13And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

14And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

15And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

16And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

17And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

18There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

19And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

22And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.

23And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.

24For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

25But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

26And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

27They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

28Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

29But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

30Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

31In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

32Remember Lot’s wife.

33Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

34I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.

35Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

36Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

37And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.

  1. v 16 ” Giving Him Thanks”
    Being grateful everyday.
Giving thanks in all things for this is the will of GOD in
    CHRIST JESUS
v 24 For as lighting, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

We must be ready at all times. For the the Lord will come suddenly, and catch this world unprepared.
Love not this world break away completely
    Our hearts must be right.
JESUS warns us not to even look back.

  2. 3Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.4And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

Its simple. If our brother or sister asks us to forgive them ;we ned to.

  3. 1Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

In the day and hour we live, it is very easy for us to offend or be offended. It is so important that we keep our relationship with Jesus right so that we have the ability to forgive and be forgiven in a quick manner because we know now the day nor the hour when the Son of man shall return for His bride. We must be ready at all times and we can’t let a seed of unforgiveness take root in our heart.

We must also be careful not to offend others. They should also practice the forgiveness spoke of here,’ but we are responsbile for our own actions, again His word says, but woe unto him, through whom they come!”

  4. 15And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

We need to remember to always praise and thank God for healing us!

  5. INCREASE OUR FAITH
They desire more faith. In the face of the overwhelming odds against them the general unbelief and the fact that Jesus would not be the kind of a Christ that they and all the Jews had expected they felt the need for more faith.

  6. 15And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

16And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

Maybe I’m out of line on this, but I read this scripture as one of them turned back with a loud voice glorified God (Jesus) and fell at hs feet. If anyone needs confirmation that Jesus is god and not the second part of the godhead, this scripture clarifies it

  7. Why do we get so wrapped up in forgiving others? If we need to forgive ,is it because we have judged? It is I that needs forgiveness. The Word of God says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood bot powers and principalities in high places. Are we of this world? Or are we born again into a spritual kingdom? who is are enemy? I have no enemies save the devil and his followers. Men and women who are deceived are not my enemies. Jesus Himself said “forgive them , for they know not what we do”.I have tried to think of someone that I need to forgive and could find none. But I could think of many that have forgiven me.

  8. Increase our faith, was the cry of the disciples. Jesus gave an example of what just a little faith could do, imagine if we released our faith to its full potential. We can take this city! It’s already been given to us!

  9. Vs. 26-30 We are living in the days that Noah and Lot lived in. People are marrying and being given in marriage. They are eating and drinking and having fun. They are buying and selling, planting and building. They are going here and there, and they are so busy that they don’t have time for God. Jesus said that it would be like this in the day that the Son of Man is revealed.

So, look up and lift up your heads for your redemption draweth nigh. (Luke 21:28). JESUS IS COMING SOON!!

  10. 36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.

This is one way of looking at it…

The disciples asked him where? Where will these who are taken be taken? The one taken while the other was left.

The answer is to the body. The body of Christ. We will be gathered together at the sounding of the last trumpet forever to be with the Lord.

    Where will they be taken?

    To the body.

The moral: if you want to go UP, you have to stay with the body.

In other words Be the Body. Be Church.

  11. God help me to forgive my brother 7 times in one day! It takes the Holy Ghost to be able to do that. But with the help and grace of God it is possible. . .

  12. Well if a man does sin agaunst you 7 tumes in one day they must not really like you then…….but if someone does then forgive them we have to forgive everybody to go to heaven-JOSEANGELGARCIAJR…

  13. This chapter is an eye opener, at least it should be. Jesus is coming and he is coming soon, will we be like the leaper that turned back to worship, or like the other nine. If we are all about being in the crowd, and being seen then we may be like the nine. The Word gives many prophesies about the Kings coming, which many are coming to pass now before our eyes. “They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all”. Where will we be when God returns, where will our friends and loved ones be, this is why we must Be-Church or they may never know. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  14. v32 “Remember Lot’s wife”
She took a little look back at what she was leaving and lost her chance of escape.

  15. Jesus says forgive and the disciples say… “increase our faith”

When it comes to offenses, we as Christians sometimes lose the great faith that we have in God to all the “big” miracles.
We have faith that God can do the impossible… but what if someone close to you hurts you, lies on you, talks bad about you, abandons you where does that great faith go.
Our faith must be a faith that is in Christ alone and one that is unshakable; forgiveness is a must, it’s a part of faith.

  16. Several things in this chapter remind me of a bit of advice that popped into my head today for keeping healthy relationships: don’t make a mountain out of a mole hill, the removal may just cost you more than you’d like. You see, a mole hill doesn’t cost much to take care of, but a mountain is a much bigger issue. We often think of the mountain cast into the sea by faith but in this chapter Jesus talks about a tree plucked up by the roots. Sometimes interpersonal relationship issues can make little things seem huge and just keep growing, yet through Jesus you can cast that mountain into the sea of forgetfulness and you can rip out that problem that keeps growing no matter the roots of bitterness that may try to hold tight. It takes faith to let go, fear will keep you bound in bitterness, strife, and unforgiveness. Yet by faith through Christ… let love cover the multitude of sins, let evil be overcome, let death be swallowed up in victory, let unity prevail.

  17. 3Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

33Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

We must not get lost in grudges or petty things of this world or wrongs from other individuals, forgive them and God will take care of the rest b/c we should be focusing on him and only him.

  18. At the beginning of this chapter, Jesus teaches us the importance of forginving one another and the number of times is not the important part, but that anytime someone asks for forgiveness we should do it in love as God does for us.

  19. 1Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

2It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

3Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

4And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him

How much of the everyday strive could be avoided if we could forgive one another of miscommunications, misunderstandings and plain ole making a mistake? Instead of running to tattle or to seek justice for the injustice, let us run to prayer in forgivenes-not giving the enemy a chance to bring bitterness or unforgiveness into our hearts.

  20. BE PREPARED

1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

Offenses are a guarantee! The greatest antidote to offenses is forgiveness, when we are offended we find our greatest victories the sooner we forgive. Carrying a grudge is very burdensome and heavy; it has no handles it is simply dead weight that is hard to balance and keep up with.

Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

There is a peace in forgiveness!

    Let it GO!
    BE Church

  21. Verse 6 in the Amplified version reads….”And the Lord answered, If you had faith (trust and confidence in God) even [so small] like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, Be pulled up by the roots, and be planted in the sea, and it would obey you.” Wow, what faith!!

  22. 10 In the same way, when you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’” (NLT)

What God commands of us is simply our duty that mut be done. And thank God that He allows us to be His servents doing His duty.
