Luke Chapter 21

Luke 21

1And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

2And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

3And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:

4For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

5And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,

6As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

7And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

8And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.

9But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.

10Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

11And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

12But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake.

13And it shall turn to you for a testimony.

14Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:

15For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

16And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.

17And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

18But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

19In your patience possess ye your souls.

20And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

21Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

22For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

23But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

24And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

25And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

26Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

27And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

29And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;

30When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.

31So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

32Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.

33Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

34And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

35For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

36Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

37And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.

38And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.

  1. 26Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

This whole chapter shows us what to expect in the last days. The reason why I chose vs.26 is because I have heard christian people say that they are fearful of what is happening in the world. The endtime ministry should be one of the bigggest ministries in the church now more than ever. If we know God’s Word nothing should suprise us. Be in the Know and study God’s Word and hide it in your heart.

  2. SOUL POSSESSION

19 In your patience possess ye your souls.

The SOUL (the seat of the feelings, desires, affections, aversions (our heart, soul etc.). This is our eternal being and why it is so very valuable. We are challenged daily to be very protective and possessive of our soul; literally making our SOUL our most valuable possession.

Our flesh opposes this process and pattern of living. Pride, self will, selfishness, anxiousness, and impatience towards the will of GOD challenge us to want answers NOW.

Jesus is teaching us here to be patient and wait for HIS perfect timing in all things. By obeying this command we reveal to JESUS the value that we place on our own soul; our most VALUABLE (eternal) possession.

  3. v14-16 NIV “But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.”
MSG. “Make up your mind right now not to worry about it. I will give you the words and wisdom that will reduce all your accusers to stammers and stutters.”
Our mind needs to be made up NOW. We won’t be able to stand under the pressures of the adversary witout a “made-up mind!”
James1v8 “.That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord, he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
My prayer is that I will be “single-minded” ( NOW.) Focused and in a relationship with the Lord ( NOW ) such that my adversaries will not be able to contradict.

  4. 33Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away

Because his word shall not pass away and becuase he charges us to pray always, praying his word will accomplish what he has set it to do. Pray using scriptures for the lost, for revival, for your children and we know we are not praying amiss, but according to his will. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man or woman availeth much! We’ve been instructed to begin our prayer with asking to be annointed with a “spirit of prayer”. Each of us doing this “together” will allow us to see the great things God has in store for the region of Ft. Worth! And finally, pray that you may be accounted worthy-to not only escape the things coming-but to be worhty to stand before the Son of man!

  5. 1And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

4For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

The poor widow woman gave all she had, she gave til it hurt. The rich men didn’t give til it hurt.

How many of us today actually give til hurts?

  6. wE ARE DEFINITLY IN THE LAST DAYS. lAST WEEK i READ AN ARTICLE IN THE JERUSALEM POST THAT iSRAEL IS CONSIERING BOMBING iRAN IN aUGUST OR sEPTEMBER..wILL GODS HAND CONTINUE TO HOLD THEM BACK FROM THE REALITY THAT THE BIBLE TEACHES ABOUT THE LAST DAYS? I AM EXCITED, IN JOYFUL ANTICAPATION OF THE COMING KING11

  7. V34 “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.”

Amazing that Jesus adds “cares of this life” right beside drunkenness and surfeiting (#2897 “the giddiness and headache caused by drinking wine to excess.”)

1 Peter 5:6-10 “6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”

Philippians 4:5-7 “5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Luke 10:39-42 “39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

I don’t want to be found in the place of being burdened by cares, I want to be found at the Master’s feet!

  8. v.19 In your patience possess ye your soul……….
this scripture spoke to me, cause we are hated for his name sake but if we have patience and let God do his will in our life we will be the overcomer……i find this to be true, if we live the life we are suppose to when people are talking about and let our light shine we will win souls in the end. I have a niece that her parents backslid when she was a young age, she is so hungry for God and she called me and said she had been watching me in a situation that had been going on and she said that i have kept a postive attitude and she wants to get in church……Praise God that he works thru us to win the lost……Just when you think prayers are not being answered God shows up right on time

  9. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Watching and praying is more than just an activity or a Christian duty but it prepares us for the days that are ahead. We must be accounted worthy of escaping things that shall come to pass… we will not be worthy of escape if we do not watch and pray.

  10. This chapter is now. Now is the time to Be-Church more than ever, for the signs in this chapter are all coming to pass before our very eyes. We must reach all those we can, we must make ready for trials, tribulation and then salvation cometh, we must pray for each other, encourage each other, and reach for the lost with each other, all for the glory of the Lord. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  11. 15For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

16And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.

17And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

18But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

19In your patience possess ye your souls.

Its a large sacrifice to be different and stand your ground in your beliefs, but he is the Almighty and we shouldn’t be afraid. We are mighty through God!

  12. There’s going to many that trick you in any way, may it be with your relationship with God or the carnal world. But no matter which situation we need to be strong with God and he’ll help through those times with those desciever’s.

  13. Vs 14 Jesus tells the disciples to “settle it in their hearts”. we too must have the truth of the gospel settled in our hearts and not deviate from it. We must allow Jesus to speak through us.
