John Chapter 1

John 1

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2The same was in the beginning with God.

3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

19And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

20And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

21And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

22Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

23He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

24And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

25And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

26John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

27He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

30This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

31And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

32And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

35Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;

36And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

37And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

38Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

39He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

40One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

41He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

42And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

43The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

44Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

45Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

46And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

48Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

49Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

50Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

51And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

  1. Vs 4 It says that the light was the light of men. That could mean that Jesus is our light to light the way for us, but stretching it further, we should also be the light to this dark and dying world proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  2. IN THE BEGINNING

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Excitement, Expectation, and Motivation are all emotions that inspire me when I consider John 1:1! Mainly because I realize that the very same WORD that was in the beginning is the WORD that I hold, carry, read, seek after, honor, respect, follow, obey, am awed by and so on.

I pray for revelation to everyone that reads this verse will see that before the water was, the WORD (JESUS) is, before the land was, the WORD (JESUS) is, before the birds, animals, man and all that feed them was, the WORD (JESUS) is.

This very same word is not only available to read, it is available to possess! Through the gift of the Holy Ghost!

BE Filled with the WORD (Creation) today.

  3. 40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

These two men were under the authority and for that when John said to follow Jesus they did it. If we would realize the blessings that come from just being under the authority of Pastor. The anointing that flows from Pastor’s leaders like Pastor Foster runs down to Pastor and then down to us. This is the blessing from being under authority.

  4. v 46 ” Come and see”

If we ever have any doubts. All we have to do
    is ” come and see.
“.Thou shalt see greater things than these”
So thankful that Jesus is our ladder.
Making a way for humanity A way to GOD.

  5. I really love this passage of scripture:

V42 “And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.”

Peter: petros #4074 “a rock or a stone” (Thayer’s Lexicon – “…used metaphorically of a soul hard and unyielding, and so resembling a rock…”)

Isaiah 46:9-13 “9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

12 Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness:

13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.”

God knows our end from the beginning, as He declares in His call to the stouthearted Peter to come to Him in His righteousness and receive his destiny in the Kingdom. It’s so encouraging to know Jesus is still calling today, “follow Me.”

  6. vs-4
The word zoe is used 36 times by John. The distinctive term for life draws attention to the vitalizing principle which makes physical life possible and even more often eternal life. The saying that life was the light of men means that of the source of all life Jesus is the focus of all our hopes.

  7. v48 MSG Jesus speaking to Nathaniel “One day long before Phillip called you here, I saw you under the fig tree.”
Long before we come to Christ, he sees us where we are. He knows all about us. We may not be aquainted with Him but He is aquainted with us and calls us to him so that we may know Him.

  8. John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

    01849
1849 exousia ex-oo-see’-ah from 1832 (in the sense of ability); privilege, i.e. (subjectively) force, capacity, competency, freedom, or (objectively) mastery (concretely, magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence:–authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength. see GREEK for 1832

    04100
4100 pisteuo pist-yoo’-o from 4102; to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit; by implication, to entrust (especially one’s spiritual well-being to Christ):–believe(-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with. see GREEK for 4102

The first word is what we have obtained. The ability to be a witness, overcome sin, resist the devil, and remain seperated unto the Lord.

The second word is what we do to obtain this power. The key word is “trust”.

Trust is reliance, and knowing that God has everything under control.

When we receive him he gives us the power to be sons of God.

Power to be Jesus to this world.

The next verse says that this is not born or blood, flesh, or man, but of God.

Its not our ability but his.

  9. The other gospels begin with the birth of Jesus but johns book begins with the eternalism of God. In the beginning, not at the birth of a baby but long before that he was the word and he Jesus was God. He did not grow into God, he was always that way.

  10. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Romans 8:14-15 = I’m glad I have been adopted into the family of God.

  11. The Life-Light

    John1:4
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

    John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, AND THE LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

In Jesus is life; more than just life as we know it, more than just flesh, bones, blood, muscle, tissue, and organs. In Jesus was everlasting life! This LIFE gave LIGHT to mankind. Jesus’ LIFE will teach us how to please God and will help us to understand what the Kingdom of God is like.

Darkness will not comprehend the light often times, but nonetheless is will still pierce the darkness and lead men to LIFE!

    Follow the LIFE-LIGHT!

  12. 4 He was the source of life, and that life was the light for humanity.
5 The light shines in the dark, and the dark has never extinguished it GWT
When one accepts the light and connects to the source that in return gives everlasting life there is no room for the darkness to enter in.

  13. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Jesus came and created a new life for us a life for all men and that life can not be understood by those that live by the law of this dark world. This is why they crucified Christ. They did not comprehend who he really was.

  14. We are in good company for those who love gods chosen people the Jews. Judaism does not believe in the trinity but “One God”.Soon they will all beleive in “Yeshua the Messiah” The one true God in the flesh! Pray for Jerusalem so they can be part of the great revival that is Already awakening us! Praise Him

  15. 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2The same was in the beginning with God.

3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Nothing exist without God. We can’t even breathe without God. How foolish we would be to think we could live without him. I don’t ever want to live without Him!

  16. 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

I wonder how many will not be ashamed to declare the name of Jesus. We have access to the power Jesus spoke of in this first chapter of John. Now we just need to use what God has given us, so that we can remain victorious.

  17. This chapter is deep and rich. We can see the prophesy of Christ and the beginning of his walk, in this chapter. We can also see the dedication and loyalty of John; we should all strive to be as dedicated in a way pleasing to the Lord as this great saint of God. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  18. The Lord led me to this scripture years ago to educate me on the Trinity Doctrine, in which; squashed it for me. This with all the great preaching our Pastor and others have done. The Trinity Doctrine or false doctrine of three Gods was lets say done away with. In this, it clearly states Creation, Light, and he is the Word…………

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

You thought witnessing the Gospel was difficult, in this next verse explains how God understands our frustration. How would you like to be the Creator and visit your own people that are in great darkness, and need to see the light, but to be so blind to where they can’t even see him when he is standing right in front of them, and receive him not. His own people…………………..WE ALL HAVE DONE THIS.

9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

On this next verse, we all are probably waiting to see these greater things! Great Revival, restoration, dreams to be manifested, great healings, mighty exploits of our Great God…………………………………………………………………………………………….

50Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

    “Stand Fast”……………………………………………………………………………………
