Genesis Chapter 2

Genesis 2

1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

4These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

5And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

11The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

12And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

13And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

14And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

18And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

  1. Vs 3 God said every other day and the things he had made were good, but the seventh day was the only day he “blessed”.
Vs 20-25 thank God for a help meet.

  2. God gave Adam responsibility for the garden and told him not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Rather than physically preventing him from eating, God gave Adam a choice, and this the possibility of choosing wrongly. God still gives us choices, and we, too, often choose wrongly. These wrong choices may cause us pain, but they can help us learn and grow and make better choices in the future.

  3. No more curse.
    And it’s leaves are for..
” the healing of the nations” Rev. 22:2
Once again ( as in the garden) We will live together with our Great GOD.
We shall see HIS beautiful face, and live in HIS
    Presence forever more.
    Thank – you JESUS !!!

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy: at thy right hand there are pleasures forever more. Ps. 16:11

  4. UNCOVERED AND NOT ASHAMED

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Society has placed such a negative slant on the word naked. Naked literally means to be bare or uncovered. In a positive sense the word naked means “Nothing to hide”. My life is uncovered; my thoughts, my actions, my attitude is all uncovered. There is no activity in my life that I am attempting to cover up.

There was nothing in the lives of Adam and Eve to be ashamed of; they were pure in thought, deed, and desire. They had nothing to cover up!

    BE Church inside and out.

  5. v.17 sometimes we are given choices and God is seeing if we are going to make the right choice and follow him or if we are going to make the wrong choice, and if we make the wrong choice are we going to learn from it or do it again? I want to be church and make the right choices we have people watching us and how we are going to handle situations when they come our way…..our children are watching what choices we make, make good choices God will meet you there

  6. And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

When I read this scripture, I realized not all of Eden was a Garden. God planted a garden eastward in Eden. Many times that is the problem in our lives, we think just because we are in “Eden” we are in a place that we can walk with God and dwell with him, but just because we’re in Eden doesn’t mean we’re in the Garden. Talk about being close but not in the right place.

    just an extra thought
15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

God put man in the Garden, he did not create him in the garden

  7. 16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God gives us so much but we tend to let the enemy come in and convince us we won’t be happy unless we have the one thing God has spoken to us not to eat. We should thankful for all our blessings and not lust after the things of this world, because we will surely die if we let the enemy cause to lust.

  8. DUST AND BREATH
The creation account reminds us that we human beings are spiritual as well as biolgical creatures. When God breathed life into Adam he made him a spiritual being. Man is no animal but is Gods special creation.

    ADAMS RIB
A jewish tradition notes that God did not take Eve from Adams foot lest he try to dominate her or from his head lest she see herself as above him. Instead God took Eve from Adams rib that the two might go through life side by side.

  9. Two Trees

9And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil

Their is the Tree of Life, and the Tree of knowledge of good and evil. 2 seperate trees. I found it interesting that Adam and Eve were commanded not to eat from the Tree of knowledge of good and evil. Of couse, I know why God didnt want them to eat from that one… but it was never mentioned that they couldnt eat from the Tree of Life. So therefore, it was okay to eat from “freely”.

Sometimes, we get to wrapping our head around what we cannot have that we forget what we can have. Of course the Tree of Life was in the same vicinity as the Tree of good and evil. Sometimes what you need is right there next to…the bad. In order to get to the Tree of Life I would imagine you would have to see, or cross the Tree of knowledge of good and evil. So it is in life, In order to get to “the Tree of Life” ya got to get past the temptation along the way.

  10. 15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Mans first job was a gardener. To take care of what God made. We still need to take care of what God has given us in our lives.

  11.  1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God said…..and the word was God…All his work which he had made…

God said…God said ….God said… God has spoken promise after promise to POFW! He is ready to create the miraculous within us!

  12. 20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

I am to be a help to my husband and not a hinderance. If I am being a help to him it will keep us drawn close together.

  13. 2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

  14. It’s A Set-Up!

2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

18And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

God had already made the earth, blessed the seventh day, and was resting and then chose to PLANT A GARDEN. I find it interesting that God was in rest and then planted a garden. Planting things that will be fruitful must not be work it must be desire.

Work is something that must be done. Desire is what reveals the “Get To” in our lives.

God PLANTED A GARDEN, PUT A MAN IN IT, AND GAVE HIM SOME HELP.

Sounds like a set-up to me; not for failure but for pure success. If God plants something it will grow. Adam and Eve failed; not God. The earth went on like God intended it to but Adam’s sin causes him to WORK and he lost DESIRE. I have no scripture reference for Adam’s lack of DESIRE but I know that the appeal of the tree and Eve’s sinful fruit tray appealed to him more than His desire to obey the Lord.

God has placed YOU in a SET-UP for SUCCESS!
Don’t let your desire turn into work over the world’s appeal… it’s appeal is a SET-UP for SIN!

  15. Verse 10 says a river went out of Eden and watered the land. This a foreshadowing of the revival flow, its coming out of the place of communion and fellowship of a man and his God.

Should we want this flow, we must be producing it out of relationship.

  16. What a heavenly place that was created for man to live in. I can just imagine what Heaven is going to be like, all the beauty to behold, but yet the greatest part of Heaven will be being able to see our Lord face and face and continue our relationship with Him, as His true bride, meeting His every need, ministering praise unto Him on a daily basis. After all we were created for the purpose of relationship.

  17. This chapter is simply truth. The Word is not difficult to comprehend, the world simply choses not to believe. Why is it than we find so many examples that were obviously influenced by the Word; “But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground”. As we walk around and see all of the sprinklers watering God’s creation, it is easy to see and relate to, just as the God’s plan of salvation is if we want to see it. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  18. 19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

think of all the fun Adam had watching God bring all those animals in and getting to name each one…
