Genesis Chapter 3

Genesis 3

1Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

16Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

20And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

  1. Rules – Relationship = Disobedience

Relationship with God is the key to overcoming the lust of the eye, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. Nothing or anyone can convince you to go against the one you love.
John 15: 9-10 “I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands, you’ll remain intimately at home in my love. That’s what I’ve done—kept my Father’s commands and made myself at home in his love. MSG

  2. Vs 6 The verse says that Adam was with Eve. It appears that as Eve began to do wrong, Adam stood by and let her. we should be ready to stop each other when they are about to do wrong in the eyes of the Lord, especially, family members.

  3. v9 And The Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him Where art thou?

Man has delibratly disobeyed GOD,and chose his own way. It boils down to If man will worship GOD or himself ?
The fellowship with GOD was broken, and GOD should have been pursued by man but GOD pursued man, and HE still does today.

There is nothing GOD won’t do to win our love and affection. There is no middle ground when He comes after us.
He will seek us out as He did Adam.
    GOD is not a quitter.

HE came to seek and save that which was lost.
So thankful JesusChrist sought us ou
This makes me love HIM more.

  4. So much in this chapter/
The Blame Game at its’s best.

    Yet, The mercy of God.

v 15 NIV “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel.”
The first prophecy of the Christ.

  5. 1Now the serpent was more subtil…… The word subtil has two meanings the way the word is used here means clever, but the other definition Is working or spreading in a Hidden usually injurious way I believe both definitions can be used to describe the serpents actions.

  6. UNCOVERED AND ASHAMED

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

For a revelatory confirmation of the comments of Chapter 2 where the bible describes Adam and Eve as Naked and not ashamed; here we find them literally UNCOVERED or naked and ashamed.

The ONE act of disobedience left them EXPOSED or UNCOVERED and ashamed of it. Their physical appearance had not changed any at all; however their Spiritual appearance had drastically changed; now deceived by Satan; allowing his questioning to lead them astray by questioning the WORD of GOD led to their TRUST in Satan and DISTRUST in GOD.

As a result of their disobedience now they are ashamed and attempting to hide themselves. This feeling is the natural feeling of disobedience. Unrepentant lives of disobedience eventually end up in a spiritual stronghold of rebellion.

    BE Church
    BE Covered
    BE Obedient

  7. 1Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made.

When the serpent came to Eve and tempted her she misquoted what God had said about the tree of life, she said “Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”, but God didn’t say don’t touch it. We must know the Word of God or the enemy will use that against and deceive us.

12And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Adam and Eve did what most people do, the blame game. Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent instead of taking responsibly for there disobedience.

  8. VS 12-13
Its so hard to take responsibility for our own acts. Adam tries to blame God who put the woman there and Eve who gave him the fruit. And Eve tries to blame the serpent. Sin not only alienated Adam from God it introduced hostility into his relationship with Eve as well. The only way we can keep our relationship with God and others pure is to accept responsibility for our sins and failures and rely on forgiving love to heal the damage done.

  9. 6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

As it has been said in the past,”Sin is fun for a season.” We know that the world is like the tree of Knowledge Of Good and Evil. It looks so good and when other people eat of the tree they don’t die.

When we eat of the “Tree of Life,”which is to say the Holy Ghost, and then we eat of the Good and Evil tree ;there is a spiritual death that occours. We don’t know we’re naked until we eat of that tree; which in this case being naked is being a type of immaturity to the world.

  10. 17And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

God has placed man in authority but the woman possesses influence. It is important as righteous women of God that we do not become a stumbling block to our husband. If we are under the flow of the anointing and walk daily in the spirit of God then we will be a helpmeet to our spouse.

  11. like it has been said its the blame game…….that’s how we as humans do sometimes is do the blame game. You have to be careful who you hang with and what you do, the devil will tempt you with anything, for adam and eve it was the tree of knowledge……

  12. This chapter speaks of disobedience. We as reading this, can say “How could Eve have listened and believed that serpent?” But in fact, many are still listening to the deceiving lies. Many times we try to reason, explain around and do exactly what we shouldn’t. Lord help me to stay focused on you and keep that close relationship to where noone or anything can deceive me from your truth.

  13. 5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

What God spoke to Adam and Eve was to not eat of, and do not touch the tree or they would surely die. The devil told a partial truth in the fact that as soon as they did eat, they did recognize good and evil, and knew that they were naked and were ashamed.

The enemy is so slick that he presents partial truth to people to make them think they are being obedient to Gods Word and as an end result they become deceived. God’s Word cannot lie, sin when it is finished bringeth forth death.

  14. The serpents lie was that their eyes would be opened and they would be like God knowing both good and evil. The devil was right about one thing, their eyes were opened, except only open to see that they were uncovered from the glory of God and naked. Though their eyes were opened their understanding was clouded. Caring more for the clothing than obedience to God’s word they tried to hide from the omnipresent God who is everywhere. The once brilliant Adam who named animals just by looking at them, now can’t discern his position before God, blaming God and his wife, he turns to his own fleshy reasoning as justification for his sinful act. (Some thoughts taken from Barnes, Clarke, and Henry commentaries)

  15. Vs 22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever

To live forever one must take and eat of the tree of life

    Revelation 22:14 KJV

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

If we keep his commandments then we have a right to the tree of life, and proverbs reveals to us:

    Proverbs 11:30 KJV

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Our fruit, if we be righteous, is a tree of life to those around us BECAUSE we have access to THE tree of life through Jesus Christ and the keeping of HIS commandments

  16. 7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

THE FIRST DESIGNER CLOTHES (AKA BIKINI LEAVES) DIDN’T MEET GODS STANDARDS… AND STILL DONT

  17. 21Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Right in the midst of man/woman disappointing God through disobedience, He was doing for them. He is always taking care of us, always doing for us, always giving to us.

  18. Eve didn’t have discernment of good and evil before sin, so looking at the tree she saw what seemed to be goodness instead of operating through submission to God’s Word. If God says “no” to us, perhaps in His Word, in prayer, through leadership, etc we need to obey, even if we can’t see anything wrong in the situation. Trust, obedience, relationship. It’s not about “I see, I want, I think…”, it’s “Lord, not my will but Yours be done.”

James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

  19. Sew What!

Adam, Eve; you can’t sew salvation on… you’re gonna sew what? Aprons? Aprons may cover your nakedness but not the sin. Covering up what you think people will see doesn’t cover up what God knows.

  20. V.6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life…destroyed a beautiful relationship with the Creator.

  21. This chapter is pure deception. The world and the prince of this world want to deceive us today just as he did Eve. We would be wise to see this, look what deception brought them. The world is in a state of deception today, there are so many prophecies’ coming to pass it is hard to believe the church is not full. Jesus is coming this is why Pastor is pushing, we all must do our part and Be-Church to EVERYONE, we all need God, we all need prayer so that we ourselves are not deceived. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  22. Hand Caught In the Cookie Jar

While vs1-6 portray Satan as a seductive tempter, the Bible’s view of temptation goes beyond a persons being wooed to do sonething evil. Instead, temptation is presented as a trial or test in which the individual has the OPPORTUNTITY to display faithfulness and devotion (which is part of the reason he put the tree in the garden) . Sadly, Eve fails to reveal loyalty and love. Instead, she is won over by the fruit’s appeal, the thought that she doesn’t have to live within the parameters God has set for her, and the goal of becoming like God-through disobedience rather than obedience.
The sane is true for us today. God challenges us to be “conformed to the likeness of His Son.” (Romans 8:29), but when we us distorted means to try to become like God, we distance ourselvesfrom Him rather than drawing nearer to Him, just as Eve did.

  23. Satan used a sincere motive to tempt Eve “you will be like God.” It wasn’t wrong of Eve to want to be like God. To become more like God is humanity’s highest goal. It is what we are supposed to do, but Satan misled Eve concerning the right way to accomplish this goal. He told her that she could become more like God by defying God’s authority, by taking God’s place and deciding for herself what was best for her life. In effect, he told her to become her own god. To become like God is not the same as trying to become God. Rather, it is to reflect his characteristics and to recognize his authority over our lives. Like Eve, we often have a worthy goal but try to achieve it in the wrong way. We act like a political candidate who pays off an election judge to be “voted” into office. When he does this, serving the people is no longer his highest goal. Self-exaltation leads to rebellion against God. As soon as we begin to leave God out of our plans, we are placing ourselves above him. This is exactly what Satan wants us to do.

  24. 3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

God never said dont touch it. When we add to or take away from what God said, we open ourselves to all kinds of trouble.
