Genesis Chapter 9

Genesis 9

1And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.

2And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

3Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

4But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

5And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.

6Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

7And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

8And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,

9And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;

10And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.

11And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

12And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:

13I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

14And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

15And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

16And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

17And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

18And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.

19These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.

20And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:

21And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

22And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

23And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.

24And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

25And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

26And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

27God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

28And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.

29And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

  1. RESPECT

23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.

Our attitude and actions define our aspirations. Unlike Hamm, Shem and Japheth took a humble respectful approach to their father. Noah is an authoritative figure in the lives of his sons for 2 major reasons; first he fathered them and secondly he led them to salvation from the flood.

The actions and attitudes of Shem and Japheth revealed their respect for Noah regardless of his fault. While Ham’s actions reveals his disrespect towards Noah in his approach as well as his spreading the news to his brothers. (GOSSIP).

  2. Noah stepped out of the ark onto an earth devoid of human life, but God gave him a reassuring promise. This covenant had three parts: never again will a flood do such destruction, as long as the earth remains, the seasons will always come as expected, and a rainbow will be visible when it rains as a sign to all that God will keep his promise. The earth’s order and seasons are still preserved, and rainbows still remind us of God’s faithfulness to his Word

  3. Noah had been a builder, but he began to be a “Husbandman” or farmer. There is a time that we must transition from building a church to growing a church. There is much difference in building and growing, but the main one is that when you build, you must go and buy or salvage materials. When you grow, that which you have begins to multiply.
The PEOPLE in the church need to have a growth mentality and not a building one. Because when you have a growth mentality you don’t sit around waiting for someone to bring you the tools and equipment to grow, instead it is something that comes naturally.

  4. 26And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

    Japheth means expansion
    Shem means shame
    Canaan means humiliation

God shall enlarge expansion and he shall dwell in the tents of shame, and humiliation shall be his servant.

  5. 16And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

So amazing that we can still see this promise in the clouds today.

  6. 4But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
5And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.

I have often wondered why God needed a blood sacrifice in the old testament, and I got my answer now. It wasn’t so much the meat that He wanted when they sacrificed. It was the Blood. So after Jesus came and gave Himself as the ‘final blood sacrifice’ we don’t have to sacrifice animals anymore. Now it’s the sacrifice of ourselves that He wants as willing vessals.

  7. FOOD FOR YOU

In the original creation man and animals were given green plants for food. Only now after the flood are living creatures given for food with the single condition that the blood not be eaten with the flesh. this is consistent with the small number of animals taken into the ark. Before this all animals lived on vegetation rather than meat.

  8. If we don’t eat our veggies we are only shortening our temples life span..So if we break even one part of the law we are quilty of all.God pointed out geen herbs as our food but anything living and had life in the blood was forbidden. Soon the lion shall sit with the lamb and I will munch on raw broccoli until them please pass the A-1 sauce!!

  9. 16And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

An everlasting covenant between man and God, this reminds me of the Holy Ghost. Our comforter and promise. Just as, the bow in the sky was to comfort Noah of God’s promise not to flood the earth again. We have an everlasting covenant and comfort through his Holy Spirit. We will not be forsaken or begging for bread. Blessed of God and children of the light. I am so thankful for the Spirit of God.

  10. v 20 ” And He planted a vineyRd”
v 21 And he drank of the wine and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

It’s in our struggle when we are closes to GOD.
When we think we have got it made that’s when we enter a dangerous time.
After Noah and his family had attain the victory.
He planted a vineyard over induling, drunk, and naked.
” Be wise, and be filled with HIS SPIRIT.”
Many try to fill that emptiness with sin. And many strong people cope with the aftermath of defeat.
    Get up and try again.
    His Mercy Endureth Forever.!!!

  11. Wow if the very God of heaven and earth thougth that making a “covenant” was so important that He would creative a sign to himself to remind himself never to destroy the earth of water again, how much we as His people should take the covenants we make with him serious as well.

Too many times we make covenants when it’s convenient, but we forget all about them when the sacrifice time comes to keep that covenant. Lord help us take them seriously.

  12. God leaves no cracks or gray places in his promises and covenants for us to play ignorant. He covers all his bases and even lends up a helping hand with the Holy Ghost the Greatest Seal of ALL! I believe this is the first covenant.. this one has physical Evidence (or seal) by way of a rainbow. Others like Abrahams was through physical circumcision (stamped and sealed) and his children multipy to the # of the stars..etc. these you can see. Just like you can see someone confess, be baptized and recieve the Holy Ghost **by Evidence** of speaking tounges.

    *cute thought*
He is much like a mother who comforts her child be plugging in a night light, saying it will remind her to come and check on her little one. In actuality, the mother isn’t likely to forget her promise. Nor is God. But the night light and the rainbow serve as a reminder to all the parties involved.

He didnt forget His covenant then, now nor even for the future.

Eze 1:28 Like the appearance of a RAINBOW in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
Rev4:2 At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. 3 And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A RAINBOW that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.
Rev 10:1 The Angel and the Little Scroll ] Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a RAINBOW above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars.

  13. V.16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between GOD and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. I’m so thankful that GOD remembers His promises, and He reminds us of them as well. Thank you Father for your mercy and grace upon this Nation, this World!!

  14. God had a task for Noah to do. It’s important that when God gives us an assignment, it must be completed. When the final exam comes, there will be no make-up exam.

  15. This chapter is life. God instructed Noah how to live, to include what he could eat and what he could not. God also told Noah and his family to be fruitful. Where the world wants to tell us the opposite, we should do as the Creator says if we want to be fruitful. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen
