Genesis Chapter 10

Genesis 10

1Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

2The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

3And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.

4And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

5By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

6And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.

7And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.

8And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.

10And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

11Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,

12And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.

13And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,

14And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.

15And Canaan begat Sidon his first born, and Heth,

16And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite,

17And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,

18And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.

19And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.

20These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.

21Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.

22The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.

23And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

24And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.

25And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

26And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,

27And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,

28And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,

29And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.

30And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east.

31These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.

32These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

  1. *****Don’t mess with Daddy….

25 Then he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham:
    “May Canaan be cursed!
May he be the lowest of servants to his relatives.”
    26 Then Noah said,
“May the LORD, the God of Shem, be blessed,
and may Canaan be his servant!
27 May God expand the territory of Japheth!
May Japheth share the prosperity of Shem,*
and may Canaan be his servant.”

    ******Cause what He says goes!

1* Japheths’ son’s spread out their territories as promised (Gen 10:5)

2* Shem’s line leads to Abraham and we all know what that means…**blessings** which will be mentioned in chapter 11

3* Ham’s son Canaan is the notorious trouble maker, but it doesn’t start there. From Hams 1st son Cush comes Nimrod the ruler of Babylon. which we can see the account of his rebellion in chapter 11. As if that weren’t enough Canaan was the father of the Hittites, Jebusities and Amorities …which we will see soon are a rebellious people. In fact, Abraham is cautioned not to marry one from their tribes. and Joshua warns the Isrealites to wipe all these tribes out of the Promise Land. Toss out the garbage or the whole house will stink ..so to speak.

  2. It is told in these verses the cities and lands that Ham’s descendants built. Yet, no actual names are given to the lands of Shem and Japheth’s descendants. God was problably making sure his people knew the exact places where evil awaited them.

  3. 31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.

GOD always has an order, a plan, purpose, and better things for HIS people. For those that trust and love HIM.

  4. 19And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.

The decedents of Ham founded many cities that where evil, even the city of Sodom and Gomorrah where Lot and his family had a hard leaving because that become such a slave to the evil ways of that city.

  5. Wow, with the world being new again, the enemy didn’t waste any time. The big name “bad cities” all start jumping out immediately.

  6. Each family was positioned, like pieces on a chess board, strategically by God for the foundation of nations. Each decision formed history and worked together for good of them that love God and are called according to his purpose.

  7. 1Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

Everyone came from these 3 sons. we can all trace our family tree back this far.

  8. 8And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.

10And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

I find it interesting that the above verse says, he began to be a mighty one in the earth. After reading the book Intoxicated with Babylon we see that Nimrod rose us in his flesh and was used to bring evil into Babel and caused much chasos with the people of God. Thus the reason I’m sure it says, he began, because his ending was not a mighty one before the Lord, but working against the Lord.

  9. GOD HAD A PLAN

32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

Gods plan to replenish the earth included the righteous of the family of Noah. The same plan of GOD is expected of our generation as well.

The righteous family of Jesus (The CHURCH) is expected to replenish the Kingdom of GOD.

    BE Church
    Teach, Reach, Preach

  10. Nimrod, please tell our generation that greatness and might on earth doesn’t equate to much with God. They think that earthly gain is the ultimate goal. Right standing with God is the ultimate goal. Would you tell them?

    Thanks!

    p.s.
    You have a wierd name.

  11. It’s amazing to see how quickly things fell apart in the generations following Noah’s family. I’m reminded of Jeremiah 10:23 “O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”

It doesn’t take much time at all away from God before you can see how things are decaying and falling apart!

Proverbs 20:24 “Man’s goings are of the Lord; how can a man then understand his own way?”

Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

Psalm 36:7 “How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.”

  12. This chapter speaks of generations. We would be wise to study this, for it was important enough for it to be recorded in God’s Word. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen
