Leviticus Chapter 5

Leviticus 5

1And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.

2Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty.

3Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall be defiled withal, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty.

4Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.

5And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing:

6And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin.

7And if he be not able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his trespass, which he hath committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.

8And he shall bring them unto the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin offering first, and wring off his head from his neck, but shall not divide it asunder:

9And he shall sprinkle of the blood of the sin offering upon the side of the altar; and the rest of the blood shall be wrung out at the bottom of the altar: it is a sin offering.

10And he shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the manner: and the priest shall make an atonement for him for his sin which he hath sinned, and it shall be forgiven him.

11But if he be not able to bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he that sinned shall bring for his offering the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any frankincense thereon: for it is a sin offering.

12Then shall he bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it, even a memorial thereof, and burn it on the altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: it is a sin offering.

13And the priest shall make an atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath sinned in one of these, and it shall be forgiven him: and the remnant shall be the priest’s, as a meat offering.

14And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

15If a soul commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring for his trespass unto the LORD a ram without blemish out of the flocks, with thy estimation by shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering.

16And he shall make amends for the harm that he hath done in the holy thing, and shall add the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and it shall be forgiven him.

17And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD; though he wist it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity.

18And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and wist it not, and it shall be forgiven him.

19It is a trespass offering: he hath certainly trespassed against the LORD.

  1. Guilt Offering
    Lev 5:14-6:7

When an Isrealite commits a sin in regard to property, a guilt offering is required and restitution must be made. The only acceptable sacrifice is a ram. Additionally, the sinner is obligated to fully repay the one who was sinned against, with an additional 20% given as compensation. Examples of sins requiring a guilt offering may be: failure to return lost or borrowed property, cheating a neighbor or mishandling “holy things” (Lev 5:15)., that is, sacrifices or any other thing connected with offerings to God. A guilt offering not only restores relationship between the sinner and God, but also between the sinner and the rest of the community.

  2. PROTECT YOUR EARS

1 And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.

I am Thankful today for the power of choice. I am privileged to choose where I go, who I am with, what I do, hear and see. We find here in Chapter 5 that GOD will make us accountable for not only what words we speak; but also what words we hear and what we see.

The Amplified version brings a little more clarity to this verse. 1 IF ANYONE sins in that he is sworn to testify and has knowledge of the matter, either by seeing or hearing of it, but fails to report it, then he shall bear his iniquity and willfulness.

Surrounding ourselves with people of Godly, positive influence is the greatest protection for our soul. Since I must give account for everything I hear and see, I will take a cautious approach to every relationship that I can control (books, magazines, websites, music, entertainment, tv, movies, etc,) knowing that there will be those occasions that I cannot control.

Regardless if I am in control or if it is out of my control. I commit to be accountable to GOD for what I see and what I hear.

  3. RSB v17 If a person sins and does what
is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands
even though he does not know it, he is
guilty and will be held responsible.

Wow this chapter is an eye opener for me.
Makes me want to repent right now.
LORD teach us ( me ) to pray.
We must never act unthinkingly and unadvisedly. Rich or poor we must offer
The Lord true repentance, and turn from
“the sin” As we give The Lord our true worship and pour the Word Of GOD and take
    counsel from HIS WORD.
Seek The LORD while HE may be found.
The day will come when HE will withdraw.
We must take the opportunity of
    HIS PRESENCE.
The end of all things is near. Therefore be
clear minded and self controlled so that
    you can pray… RSB 1 Peter 4:7

  4. Guilty by Association!

You don’t have to physically do something sinful to be guilty you just have to know about and not say a word! Congratulations you have now joined the guilty party… and you will serve a life term, UNLESS you repent. It’s 2011 please don’t bring a lamb, any doves or piegons into the church… just confess it and repent!

A good way to prevent this is to guard your friendship, don’t hang out with people that don’t prove with their actions and words that they want to serve the Lord.

  5. The entire system of sacrifices could not help a sinner unless he brought his offering with an attitude of repentance and a willingness to confess sin. Today, because of Christ’s death on the cross, we don’t have to sacrifice animals. It is still vital to confess sin because genuine confession shows realization of sin, awareness of God’s holiness, humility before God, and willingness to turn from this sin. Even Jesus’ death will be of little value to us if we do not repent and follow him. It is like a vaccine for a dangerous disease, it won’t help unless it enters the bloodstream.

  6. This chapter from the first verse shows that u must gaurd your spirit and not let yourself be a partaker in another mans sin.

  7. Protecting your spirit from ungodly things is so importent to a walk with God. I pray alot that He would protect my mind and my eyes from hearing and seeing things that are unholy.

  8. 15If a soul commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring for his trespass unto the LORD a ram without blemish out of the flocks, with thy estimation by shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering.

16And he shall make amends for the harm that he hath done in the holy thing, and shall add the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and it shall be forgiven him.

None of us are perfect, but thank God He has made a way of escape through forgiveness of sin.

  9. This chapter illustrates knowledge. We must be careful where we go, what we do and what we see. We are to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. We are to be-knowledgeable of the Word if we are to Be-Church, this is why pastor instituted the blog. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  10. We are gulty in so many things. We should stay continually in touch with Jesus and let the Holy Ghost guide every part of our lives so as not to sin against God.

  11. 1And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.

we must give an account one day, and we must be continually repentant for so much that we hear or see, jsut as we pass by others….
