Numbers Chapter 9

Numbers 9

1And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season.

3In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.

4And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, that they should keep the passover.

5And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.

6And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:

7And those men said unto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the LORD in his appointed season among the children of Israel?

8And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the LORD will command concerning you.

9And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

10Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto the LORD.

11The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

12They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.

13But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his people: because he brought not the offering of the LORD in his appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.

14And if a stranger shall sojourn among you, and will keep the passover unto the LORD; according to the ordinance of the passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.

15And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning.

16So it was alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.

17And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.

18At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.

19And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not.

20And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the LORD they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed.

21And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.

22Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.

23At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

  1. 3In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.

  2. v8 And Moses said unto them stand still, and I will hear what the LORD will command concering you.

This verse tells me to have the ability to take GOD”S counsel from our Moses( Pastor)
To be a good listener and prayerful.
Stand still and wait to what
    “Thus says The LORD”

And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood and from avenging myself with my own hand. 1 Sam. 25:33

  3. TOTALLY FOLLOW THE LORD

21 And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.
22 Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.

What an example we find in this chapter about following the LORD totally. The LORD’s prople had so much trust, confidence and relationship with their LORD that they would not move, leave town or miss worship without the LORD telling them. They did not grow impatient or nervous, simply trust and obey GOD. Really makes me consider when and where our next move should be. One absolute; we will not move until the cloud moves.

    MSG
It made no difference whether the Cloud hovered over The Dwelling for two days or a month or a year, as long as the Cloud was there, they were there. And when the Cloud went up, they got up and marched. They camped at God’s command and they marched at God’s command. They lived obediently by God’s orders as delivered by Moses.

  4. Sometimes we feel like waiting on the Lord has to be long and painstaking, but here we see when they were waiting on the Lord they were at rest. When they moved is when the work came in. We ask for God to move, but we are the ones that have to move as he directs us. I think of the sermon on wednesday, When somewhere is nowhere will we still be here? These guys were nowhere all the time, and they still moved as the Lord directed them. They didnt abandon ship when they were nowhere. Im exited knowing that the cloud is over us now and we are awaiting it to move. Let us move when he moves us.

  5. The children of Israel were commanded to keep the Passover at the appointed season. In our lives we will encounter various season, and just as the children of Israel followed God carefully (moving only when He did) so must we allow God to guide us in the appointed season He has for us. It will do us no good to try to jump forward, backward, or completely off to left field; we must keep the season of the Lord at the time He has appointed for us.

  6. 18 At the commandment of the LORD …..this phrase is repeated numerous times in this chapter.

Oh that we as christians would apply this phrase to our lives every day. We wouldn’t get into the messes in life that we do, if we would wait for direction, at the commandment of the Lord.

  7. This chapter illustrates commitment. “At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.” We must learn to as the man of God hears from the Lord. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  8. 22Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.

To wait on God sometimes seems so hard… Today with our microwave generation, full of fast food and drive-thru’s, we expect the Lord to opperate on our time all too often. The Israelites lived in tents, sleeping on the ground and they knew the importance of waiting on God.

The 120 that stayed in the upper room also understood the importance of waiting on God. We have to remember that He is God, and that He knows the best time for events to take place for us. We must be willing to move when God says, but just as importantly, we must be willing to stay where we are until He says move, for we might end up walking out on Him if we don’t.

  9. Cloud Cover

Although at times they may have wanted to pack it uP and journey they did not because they knew the lord Would not be with them. It was pretty simple.:. Stay with the cloud! Oh how I wish there was a visible cloud for us to see and to guide us. Instead Jesus gave us the holy ghost to guide us internally and not through a physical sign.

  10. The people listened to the Lord. They stayed in the tents and did not travel until when the cloud was there. They waited upon the Lord and moved again when the cloud lift. There is no mention of not wanting or disappointment due to the duration or lack of duration of their time in the tents.

  11. We need to follow our Leader and the cloud of direction. The cloud may be descended now; but, soon we will be marching ahead.
