Numbers Chapter 15

Numbers 15

1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you,

3And will make an offering by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, or a sacrifice in performing a vow, or in a freewill offering, or in your solemn feasts, to make a sweet savour unto the LORD, of the herd or of the flock:

4Then shall he that offereth his offering unto the LORD bring a meat offering of a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an hin of oil.

5And the fourth part of an hin of wine for a drink offering shalt thou prepare with the burnt offering or sacrifice, for one lamb.

6Or for a ram, thou shalt prepare for a meat offering two tenth deals of flour mingled with the third part of an hin of oil.

7And for a drink offering thou shalt offer the third part of an hin of wine, for a sweet savour unto the LORD.

8And when thou preparest a bullock for a burnt offering, or for a sacrifice in performing a vow, or peace offerings unto the LORD:

9Then shall he bring with a bullock a meat offering of three tenth deals of flour mingled with half an hin of oil.

10And thou shalt bring for a drink offering half an hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

11Thus shall it be done for one bullock, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or a kid.

12According to the number that ye shall prepare, so shall ye do to every one according to their number.

13All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

14And if a stranger sojourn with you, or whosoever be among you in your generations, and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD; as ye do, so he shall do.

15One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD.

16One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.

17And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

18Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land whither I bring you,

19Then it shall be, that, when ye eat of the bread of the land, ye shall offer up an heave offering unto the LORD.

20Ye shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for an heave offering: as ye do the heave offering of the threshingfloor, so shall ye heave it.

21Of the first of your dough ye shall give unto the LORD an heave offering in your generations.

22And if ye have erred, and not observed all these commandments, which the LORD hath spoken unto Moses,

23Even all that the LORD hath commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day that the LORD commanded Moses, and henceforward among your generations;

24Then it shall be, if ought be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the LORD, with his meat offering, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one kid of the goats for a sin offering.

25And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD, and their sin offering before the LORD, for their ignorance:

26And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.

27And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering.

28And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.

29Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.

30But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

31Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.

32And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.

33And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.

34And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

35And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.

36And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.

37And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

38Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:

39And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:

40That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.

41I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.

  1. 38 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘Throughout the generations to come you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel. 39 You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the LORD, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by chasing after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes. 40 Then you will remember to obey all my commands and will be consecrated to your God.

Where are your tassels, those things in your life that keep you in line with the Word of God. We live in a fast pace society. It is sometime easy to forget where your going or what your doing because we are all so busy. More than we need our to do lists, calendars, ipods, and blackberry’s we need the Holy Ghost and those small constant reminders of where we’ve been to keep us in obedience to God.

  2. Sin is Sin
    Nu 15:22-41

All sin is sin and requires atonment. Yet Scripture also distinguishes between two kinds of sin, prescribing different methods for dealing with each. in Numbers 15, God calls for unintentional sin -sin thats commited accidently- to be handled gently and mercifully, with the motive of the sinner ever in mind. At the same time, God orders that intentional sin -especially sin that is committed in deliberate defiance of him- must recieve swift, strict and severe consequences. The Cities of Refuge mentioned in Joshua 20 comes to mind when I read this because of God’s mercy when we mess up unknowingly.

In order to help keep the Isrealites from sinning in either manner, God commands them to wear blue tassels on their clothing. Like a string tied around the finger, these tassels serve as daily reminders not to sin (vs 39-40). Today, we have something better than such as pyhsical reminder: the Holy Spirit, who, moment-by-moment reminds us of God’s commands also pricks our consciences when necessary, encouraging us to be obedient.

  3. 39And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:

I will never look at blue the same way again. I will now look at it as it says in the scripture, as a rememberance to the commandments of the Living God of my fathers. The next part is so true. Your heart and eyes will deceive you. As i have heard it the eyes are the window/ gateway to the soul/heart. As we see here this is somewhat of a true statment. We need to protect our hearts, eyes, mind, body, ears, and our thoughts.

  4. v 40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your GOD.

If we love the LORD as we should we will do as HE tells us to… Love, pray, fast, reachout,
    read and obey His Word.
Participate in the spiritual and discern the LORD’S body. This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

  5. GOD SPEAKS TO OUR FUTURE

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you,

Although GOD had already executed judgement on the negative mindset of the children of Israel and declared that they would not see the promise land. GOD in is infinite wisdom was continuing to speak to the future of Israel by giving them instructions on how to live in that land.

GOD is more interested in our future and us possessing HIS promises than he is even the judgement that he spoke over Israel.

We should glean from this principal to “get over IT”! Seek, focus, and follow the process necessary to possess the promises of GOD.

    iPray

  6. In this scripture, it surely is clear, how God likes things in a certain order, and always be appreciative of our Pastor, especially for all the times he has interceded for us in prayer, and for fighting hell with a water pistol.

    “Thank You….Pastor Watts”………………

We should also recognize the most importance of the Holy Sacrifice Christ Jesus did for us, and how his atonement, is much more purer, with better promises with the New Covenant, rather than in the Old Testament Sacrifice. Remember, there’s One who intercedes for us to the Father, “Jesus” “In which are ONE”. Also, Jesus said, my people perish due to lack of knowledge, see what ignorance can do but, more so what diliberate sinning can do!

28And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.

Thank God, for forgiveness, and mercy, and grace, and for his acopy love for us.

  7. The problem a lot of people are having is that when they come unto the land of their habitation, they think they don’t have to do anything else. But that ain’t what the bible says. If your in church, if your in the promise, get up and do what you gotta do

  8. In verse 27 a man was stoned By Gods direction, for picking up sticks on the sabbath. Maranatha! Even so Lord Jesus come. I pray we will then get a day of rest! Wednesday Had a fever at work,Thursday could not get out of bed Friday returned but still sick. And once again comes the busy weekend schedule.

  9. 38Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:

39And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:

40That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.

41I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.

Though we may not wear a certain color to show that we are the children of God we are commanded to dress in a manner that shows who we are and what we stand for. Clothing says so much about a person. Although we don’t want to judge those for their appearance; it still speaks louder than any words can say. I can spot an apostolic woman of God a mile away. We are not in bondage but in love. We are in love with the God of creation and to be pleasing in his sight we must be holy and set apart from this world. Be not ashamed of your father but stand upright and show the people of this world the joys of being his child!

  10. Rescued For A Reason!

v41 Msg I am your God who rescued you from the land of Egypt to be your personal God. Yes, I am God your God.

  11. 41I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!

  12. 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:

God daily allows us things in our lives that causes us to remember his commandments. We find in this chapter some that were pardoned with a sacrifice, because of their “ignorance” of the commandments, and some that met death because they willfully sinned against the commandments of God. We must be careful to adhere to the commandments of the Lord daily. The scripture says, he that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin……

God knows if we knowingly ignore His commandments because it does not please our flesh, or if we truly don’t know what His commandments are. Help us to listen and obey the Word of the Lord daily as igrow!

  13. A fringe of blue, a marking of the border, to remind Israel of God’s commandments. The commandments are like lines on the highway marking the border of lanes and giving direction about what traffic maneuvers are permitted in the given stretch of road (like passing or no passing zone.) They may seem like a relatively small detail while driving yet they are vitally important. Learning from the example of the man who was lax about Sabbath adherence, we do well not to underestimate the commandments of God and rather let them guide us in the way of life.

  14. This chapter illustrates sacrifice. Thank God for his mercy and grace that we no longer have to provide a blood sacrifice. Thank God for his Blood that he shed for all of us. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  15. There are no short cuts for repentence.

The word was given for the specific sacrifice for repentence, and those desiring repentence obeyed. This chapter illistrates the importance of taking no short cuts when we repent.

  16. Verses 38-40 in the NLT version read…”“Give the following instructions to the people of Israel: Throughout the generations to come you must make tassels for the hems of your clothing and attach them with a blue cord. When you see the tassels, you will remember and obey all the commands of the Lord instead of following your own desires and defiling yourselves, as you are prone to do. The tassels will help you remember that you must obey all my commands and be holy to your God.

We must be careful and not “get distracted by everything you feel or see” as the message version of verse 39 says!

  17. We are certainly responsible for the people that we minister to. This passage says that whosoever jouney with them will recieve the same treatment. This lets us know that God is holding us accountable for the souls that he has broght to us to win.
v16 One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.
Im so greatful to the Lord my God that he is so foriving that the ignorance of our past will not keep him from leading us into our future.

  18. 36And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.

The man that was put to death was doing something that might not be a bad thing any other day, but because he did it on the sabbath he was put to death. Gathering sticks is important for cooking and keeping warm, but it is much more important to listen and obey the word of the LORD.
