Numbers Chapter 32

30 Days of Prayer

Day 16

Pray for Asia, the 10/40 window, and all other nations of the world. Pray especially for nations that are closed to the gospel to be opened. Pray for a worldwide harvest: “And it shall come to pass in the last days…the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be stablished… and all nations shall flow into it” (Isaiah 2:2)
Numbers 32

1Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;

2The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

3Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

4Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:

5Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.

6And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

7And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?

8Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

9For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

10And the LORD’S anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,

11Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

12Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

13And the LORD’S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

14And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

15For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

16And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:

17But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

18We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

19For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.

20And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war,

21And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,

22And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

23But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

24Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

25And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.

26Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:

27But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord saith.

28So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:

29And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:

30But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

31And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.

32We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be our’s.

33And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.

34And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

35And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,

36And Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.

37And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,

38And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.

39And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it.

40And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

41And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havothjair.

42And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

  1. Moses has a good reason to be upset, a lack of support from Reuben and Gad would be emotionally discouraging to the rest of the population as they enter the promised land. Moses reminds these tribes of God’s anger 40 years earlier at the expense of Israel’s unwillingness to enter the promise land (vs14-15). He suggests that further unwillingness could bring additional judgment. Their reluctance to claim the promise land -which Moses knows that he wont be able to enter- hurts, and fuels his disposition . They strike a bargain (vs17), if you fight with your brothers you can have this land we are on now “but you wont have any inheritance in the promise land” (vs19). This gets the attention of half the tribe of Manasseh that decides they wanted to remain east of the Jordan too. Manasseh is the only group to settle on both sides of hte Jordan, and it along with the tribes of Gad and Reuben- is allowed to do so only after lending military support to the other tribes (vs 33&39).

This is interesting, because “if they do not cross over with you armed, they must accept their possesion with you in Canaan.” (vs30)..So if they disobey and dont follow their word, they still get a place in the promise land. Aint God merciful, even if they don’t fight they still get a home.

Ths scenario reminds me of Lot and Abraham, and how they split up because of the livestock and not having enough room. I don’t believe that spliting up is always the answer, look at what happens later on in Scripture the kingdoms of Isreal split in two, and that didn’t help their spiritual state one bit. Though God promises that he has a plan for our future (Jer 29:11), we too often ask him for more immediate pleasures, such as a job, fiance, or a job we desire. Just as Evangelist Sharp was preaching tonite about the devine delay. We don’t need to jump the gun every time we feel dissatisfied with our present situations.

  2. We must have a plan. If we are going to go to the man of God with a question or an oppertunity, we must have a possible solution. We must also be willing to submit, if it isn’t the answer we are wanting to hear.

  3. v5-6 NIV “If we have found favor in your eyes, they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordon.” Moses said to the Gadites and Reubenites, “Shall your countrymen go to war while you sit here?”
Christians are in spiritual warfare every day. How much more territory can we claim for God if we battle together?

  4. v 6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben ,Shall your brethren go to war,and shall ye sit here?
v7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them ?

There is nothing more important than the call and the work of the LORD.
By your leadership others will follow.

It discourages others, withers the branches when we are not faithful. Don’t go out there disconnected.” For with out me you can do nothing” John 15:5
Believe and depend on HIS POWER.
We have a promise of the abilities of the vine that ” With GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE”
Our strength and ability comes from GOD.
Thank you JESUS for the land you have given
    Us!

  5. TO BUILD IT WE MUST “SAY IT”

24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

What a prophetic word! I challenge each of us to begin to “SAY IT” as GOD has granted us the VISION to see beyond where we are now to the place in HIM that he has called us to.

VICTORY over sin, disease, addictions, habits, unforgiveness. We must speak these things out of our mouth to give life to our dreams to build them. See yourself healed, blessed and anointed and “SAY IT” loud and often.

The prior verse places great emphasis on GOD’s plan and will to build HIS Kingdom!

23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

HE KNOWS if we are just playing around and going through the motions.

“SEE IT” “SAY IT” “DO IT”

    MSG
23-24 “But if you don’t do what you say, you will be sinning against God; you can be sure that your sin will track you down. So, go ahead. Build towns for your families and corrals for your livestock. Do what you said you’d do.”

  6. 11Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:
12Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

So close to the promise and they missed it. How sad this must have been; all because of some negativity in the camp. This just shows us that we need to keep a good report, because we never know who is listening. It just might be your boss and because of something that you said to someone ,and didn’t think that no one else was listening.

  7. 6 Moses answered: You mean you’d stay here while the rest of the Israelites go into battle?7 If you did that, it would discourage the others from crossing over into the land the Lord promised them.8 t8 This is exactly what happened when I sent your ancestors from Kadesh-Barnea to explore the land.9 They went as far as Eshcol Valley, then returned and told the people that we should not enter it.10 t10 The Lord became very angry.
If God gives you a promise don’t stop at the halfway mark satisfied and unwilling to move forward just because there might be a struggle to get there. Trust in the Lord and let him fight for you! He will give you what he promised if you will just keep walking. I Press On!

  8. 9For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

Don’t let anyone talk you out of the promises that God has given you. Listening could cause you and your family to wander or die in the wilderness and never experience what God truly has for you.

  9. Vs 28 It is important to communicate with others what has been agreed to or is to be done concerning the Lord’s business.

  10. 11Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

Have there been times when you have not wholly followed the Lord? I don’t want God’s wrath to be kindled against me. Lets be obedient in all things. Lord, forgive me for disobedience to your word.

  11. This chapter illustrates a bond. “But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.” One must always uphold ones bond (word) especially when made to the Lord, else wise the price of not doing so could be enormous. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  12. We must be careful what we choose concerning the will of God for us. Our decisions can greatly impact even those around us and should not be made lightly. It’s interesting how if those tribes that wanted land not on the other side of Jordan did not fulfill helping the remaining tribes get their land, they would still get land just not what and where they wanted it. When God promises He will do something, we can trust He will do it. Our actions may cause it to happen in a way that we don’t like if we resist God’s plan, but we can be sure God is faithful concerning His promises.

  13. I believe in All Gods promises. I have been healed in Jesus name. I have been delivered; I am anointed and blessed beyond measures.

  14. 13And the LORD’S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

This is one thing I do not want to face, God being angry with me. That is why it is important to follow all the commands of God.

  15. Verses 20-23 in the NLT read….”Then Moses said, “If you keep your word and arm yourselves for the LORD’s battles, and if your troops cross the Jordan and keep fighting until the LORD has driven out his enemies, then you may return when the LORD has conquered the land. You will have fulfilled your duty to the LORD and to the rest of the people of Israel. And the land on the east side of the Jordan will be your property from the LORD. But if you fail to keep your word, then you will have sinned against the LORD, and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.”

Wait for God’s promises in your life, don’t settle! What looks good may NOT be as it seems!
