Numbers Chapter 35

30 Days of Prayer

Day 19

Pray for there to be a drawing of people whom God is calling to submit their lives completely to Him: “Behold I stand at the door and knock” (Revelation 3:20)

Numbers 35

1And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

2Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.

3And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

4And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.

5And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

6And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

7So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.

8And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.

9And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

10Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

11Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.

12And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.

13And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.

14Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.

15These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.

16And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

17And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

18Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

19The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

20But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;

21Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

22But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,

23Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:

24Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:

25And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

26But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;

27And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:

28Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

29So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

30Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

31Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

32And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

33So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

34Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

  1. 33So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

34Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

  2. In Christ we have a city of refuge.

Hebrews 6v18 NKJ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

  3. THE HOLY LAND

34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

34 “Don’t desecrate the land in which you live. I live here, too—I, God, live in the same neighborhood with the People of Israel.”

GOD established a Holy Place for Israel to dwell; it was the responsibility of the people to keep it HOLY. Refraining from murder, whether with the hand or the tongue. Today, many are guilty of slaughter with their tongue, dicing up others, telling lies, gossiping or speaking negatively (evil) about others.

Let us keep the church free from such manslaughter, keep it HOLY, unspotted by the blood of a jealous hand or tongue.

  4. Verse 34 in the Amplified Version reads….”And you shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell, for I, the Lord, dwell in the midst of the people of Israel. The Lord dwells in our midst; so, we must keep his temple holy. Do not pollute it or blemish it.

  5. 33So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

34Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

Keep the house of the Lord clean and undefiled.

  6. 34Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

We must be cautious of what we do. Others watch us, and any slip-ups they might see us do, defile all the hard work and progress we fight daily to gain. We must stay dilligent about our walks.

  7. v34 Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.

Thank GOD there’s a fountain flowing that’s able to cleanse everyone.
GOD said , ” If you are going to get out of here
You’re going to have to come through me”
GOD is getting ready to take us to our eternal home.” For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is GOD
    Heb.-11:10
While we wait in faith let’s keep holy.

  8. 33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are….many times we come into the house of the Lord bogged down by cares of life, situations, circumstances, and we give God polluted praise. It doesnt’ cost us anything and actually we are just going through the motions. But I don’t want to offer the Lord something that costs me nothing. I want to keep my life pollution free.

  9. 33So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

sometimes we have to clean-up our own messes. When we pollute our lives with things of this world, we must realize that we need to make sure that its clean and not polluted.

  10. Maybe we should stand at the door and knock also. Some of us on Saturday think it could be more effective to talk to people instead of just using door hangars. Pray about it!! I for one would be willing. Just a handful could make a difference.! Lets do it .

  11. The Levites were given 48 cities but only 6 were cities of refuge. Let’s say that all the levetical cities were cities of worship. You could go to any of the 48 and hear good preaching and singing. You could get fed at any of them. Each one had an anointed man, but you could only, as a sinner as a murderer be saved at 6 of them.

Let me be honest with you, I’ve heard some good biblical word from baptist preachers. One of the best oneness messages I ever heard was preached by a trinitarian preacher. I’ve seen men who don’t believe like us lay hands on the sick and they recover. Some catholic priests claim to cast out demons. There are 48 levetical cities but only 6 where you can be saved.

  12. This chapter illustrates justness. The Lord made a way of refuge in Moses’s day, just as his (Jesus) Blood also made a way of refuge today. Jesus Blood did not make a way for us to freely sin, his Blood made it possible for our sins to be covered before we pass from this life and onto judgment, if we seek refuge and repent. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  13. The Levites were suburbanites! This was a good place God provided for them and their cattle. Take care of Gods house and he’ll take care of you.

  14. God has called us to the ministry of reconciliation, to partnership with Him in reaching lost humanity. Sometimes we will feel like we have nothing to give, like in our lives we are all used up, and we can’t see how we can do what God is calling us to do. Yet here we see in God’s provision, in the divine portion His people received, He gave them above what they needed so there was a portion they could give way for His kingdom (making a place of mercy for the murderer; providing a place for those whose portion is God rather than earthly things; etc.) God finishes this chapter speaking of how He dwells among His people; God places provision in our hand such that through Him, through His presence in our lives, we can fulfill His purpose for us.

  15. The church should be a place of refuge for the sinner. A place where he feels safe in the Spirit of God and know that he can be forgiven.

  16. This chapter stresses on the saying “An Eye for an Eye”…I firmly believe in this. You do the crime you pay the time. Thank you Jesus for being merciful to all of us. We need to get back to the place where we belong.

  17. 34Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

Let’s keep what God has given us pure. Don’t allow sin to mess up what God has put into place.
