Deuteronomy Chapter 3

30 Day of Prayer

Day 23

Pray for the lost and those who are deceived to truly recognize how their lives are being destroyed by sin, and for them to experience salvation and deliverance. Pray that God would restrain satanic powers and show Himself mighty, liberating many people to follow Him: “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins” ( Acts 26:18)

Deuteronomy 3

1Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

2And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.

3So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

4And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

5All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many.

6And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.

7But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves.

8And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon;

9(Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir;)

10All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

11For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

12And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.

13And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.

14Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day.

15And I gave Gilead unto Machir.

16And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

17The plain also, and Jordan, and the coast thereof, from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdothpisgah eastward.

18And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war.

19But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that ye have much cattle,) shall abide in your cities which I have given you;

20Until the LORD have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God hath given them beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.

21And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.

22Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.

23And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,

24O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

25I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.

26But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.

27Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

28But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

29So we abode in the valley over against Bethpeor.

  1. Vs. 27-28 Some can go only so far toward the goal. They can only see the promise. They must instruct and encourage others in obtaining it. We all have a part to play in the overall scheme of things in God’s Kingdom. iPray, iWork, iGive, iReap.

  2. We see Moses recounting the reason he would not be able to lead them into the Promised Land. God’s instructions are specific. We need to follow them in order to receive all that he has for us.

  3. 22Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.

23And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,

24O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

What shall we fear when we have a God that will fight for us? I love scripture that speak of the majesty of God. Its easy to coast through life and forget the majesty of the God we serve. For what God is there in heaven or earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might? There is no other, there is no God, like our God!

  4. Verses 21-22 in the CEV read….”Then I told Joshua, ” You saw how the LORD our God helped us destroy King Sihon and King Og. So don’t be afraid! Wherever you go, the LORD will fight on your side and help you destroy your enemies.” The Lord is on our side. He does not give us the spirit of fear; but, the power to be brave.

  5. NO FEAR

22 Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.

There are 2 very important points I see in this chapter concerning the church.

    1. We WILL be required to fight for anything we will possess. We must determine in our own hearts what it is in our lives that is worth fighting for. We should begin with the promises of GOD to us. We also must understand that some things that GOD has promised will require a fight.

    2. Do not be afraid! Fear hath torment and paralyzes. Obedience to GOD, his word and his plan is a wall and shield of protection. Proceed with faith and confidence not fear of failure, trust and believe in GOD and his WORD and Promises.

    Lets GO!

  6. 24O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?
25I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.
26But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.

Though we repent and are forgiven, sometimes we still have to live with the conquences of our past sins…

  7. Rest in Obedience
    Dt 3:18-20

Moses’ first sermon is almost over. So far, he has reviewed Israelite history and reminded them of their failures and victories. He is getting ready to charge the Israelites to go forward, to fight valiantly, and to conquer and posess Canaan. He wisely takes a moment to encourage them with a promise of the peace and rest that is to come. Moses knows that posessing the promise land will end their homeless wandering and bring the Israelites peace and stability. Obedience to God’s Word, even in the mist of conflict and struggle, allows our hearts to rest and find shelter in God’s leadership. The battle may surround us, but there is peace in the promise: “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
    (Ex 33:14).

      • seems as though you can’t see it yet though, because she it needs to be reviewed for modifications or something.

  8. Here we see a written account of the death of a few giants. These men who stood so tall that the people of Israel said “we are as but grasshoppers in their sight.”

Now we see a victory they could have previously possessed had they had faith.

iPray that our faith in God will cause us to see our giants defeated before it has even happened!

  9. So many people only believe a promise when they start to see results. Moses wasn’t asking God to let him go into the promised land when the 10 spies gave him bad reports. He didn’t ask to go into the promised land before a victory. So many people live on victories outside of their promise.

  10. O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

  11. 24O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

We see here that the Isrealites were somewhat unhappy with the land that they were promised. I understand what this is talking about, because I have gone thriugh this lately. I have been praying about a situation in my life ,and every time that I pray about it the Lord will speak and say,” I have already given you an answer.” Said all that to say, listen what and when the Lord talks to you.

  12. v24 O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what GOD is there in heaven or in earth that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

It all about a humility, and a relationship with the Lord. That we are able to say GOD IS WORTHY of our praise no matter the out come

v27 “and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

Here we see that GOD is faithful to His Word
May we like Moses gracefully accept the WILL Of The Lord in our lives.
It takes a place in our lives called
Gethsemane ( prayer, a relationship with GOD)
To say” not as I will, but as thou wilt”
    Matt.26:39

  13. NIV 24 “Sovereign LORD, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?

Stay encouraged, keep the faith, pray and the good Lord will begin to show his blessings to you!

  14. vs.18-20 “And I commanded you at that time, saying, The Lord your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war. But your wives, and your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that ye have much cattle,) shall abide in your cities which I have given you. Until the Lord have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the Lord your God hath given them beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you.

These scriptures made me think of Warfare Prayer and Intercession. It’s great when we get our VICTORY, but we must remember that we need to go to prayer and fight for the VICTORY for our brothers and sisters as well. Then we can Rejoice together in the VICTORIES. IPray

  15. V27-28 “27 Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan. 28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.”

Sometimes we will have vision but not permission. Sometimes plans change and what we are to do with that vision changes. Being responsive to the will of God is not something just to benefit our own lives but can have a massive trickle-down effect to others as we see here.

  16. The Chapter speaks about the promise land and who will not be going to step foot due to disobedience. I can’t imagine watching my future at a distance, how sad it was for Moses that he couldn’t convince God to let him to the promise land, in the beginning Moses had god’s favor, it so happens that he lost it doesn’t take much to do wrong but hard to do good when we let our temper and motions get in the way of our FAITH. Moses was tired of dealing with complaints so he responded with an attitude. If only Moses realized that he also was accounted for his actions. Lord guide me to do your will and give me strength to accept correction so I can be like you.

  17. This chapter illustrates “what could have been”. It will be a great shame if on our day we find that the Lord is wroth with us and we cannot go over to our promised land (Heaven). This is why we must pray, fast, repent and make ready for our journey, for we are all just passing through this life to eternity. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  18. 1And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms whither thou passest.

22Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.

God is no respector of persons He shall fight our battles for us as well.

  19. 24 (NET) “O Lord God , you have begun to show me your greatness and strength . ( what God in heaven or earth can rival your works and mighty deeds. 25 Let me please cross over to see the good land on the other side of the Jordan river- this good hill country and the Lebanon! God basically told him no and don’t ask again.

  20. 22Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.

God will fight your battles for you all we have to do is follow his commandments.
