Deuteronomy Chapter 5

30 Days of Prayer

Day 25

Pray for God to strengthen, heal, and restore families and encourage them toward His priorities. “And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand” (Mark 3:25)

Deuteronomy 5

1And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.

2The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

4The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

5(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,

6I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

7Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

8Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

9Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

10And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

11Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

12Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.

13Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:

14But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

15And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

16Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

17Thou shalt not kill.

18Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

19Neither shalt thou steal.

20Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.

21Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

22These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

23And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

24And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

25Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.

26For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

27Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

28And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.

29O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

30Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.

31But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.

32Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

33Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

  1. 24And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

We have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth. I am thankful for the opportunity to commune with God.

  2. v10 And shewing mercy to unto thousands of them that love me an keep my commandments.
Except for His mercy I would be lost.

  3. iPray Somebody’s Soul Would Catch on FIRE

22 These words the LORD spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

From the midst of the FIRE the LORD spoke to Israel. Again we find the voice of GOD and the WORDS of GOD connected to FIRE.

Walking in obedience to the word of GOD is where we find the favor, protection and blessing of GOD.

    MSG
32-33 So be very careful to act exactly as God commands you. Don’t veer off to the right or the left. Walk straight down the road God commands so that you’ll have a good life and live a long time in the land that you’re about to possess.

iPray we walk in obedience to the WORDS of GOD and possess Fort Worth for JESUS.

  4. 1And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.

    iHear
    iLearn
    iKeep
    iDo

  5. 33Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

Let this be a testament to what we should do.

  6. Verses 32-33 in the message version read….”So be very careful to act exactly as God commands you. Don’t veer off to the right or the left. Walk straight down the road God commands so that you’ll have a good life and live a long time in the land that you’re about to possess.”

Alot of times, we try to go our own way or try to justify why we are not doing what we know we should be. If you veer off to far, you might end up down a dead end (literally). The beginning of verse 32 says “So be very careful” (MSG), “Israel, you must carefully” (CEV), “You must be careful” (NLT)…..sounds like a warning!

Verse 29 in the NLT says….”Oh, that they would always have hearts like this, that they might fear me and obey all my commands! If they did, they and their descendants would prosper forever. “

  7. vs. 28-29 “And the Lord heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the Lord said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken. O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!”

When you are talking, God knows whether you are just saying it or whether it is truely coming from the heart. He wants our words to come from the HEART. He wants us to have a HEART that would truely fear him and follow after all his commandments. So, let us do as Ecclesiastes 12:13 says, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: FEAR GOD, AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: for this is the whole duty of man.”

  8. 20Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour. i believe this also includes gossiping about the Pastor, Pastor’s wife and the leadership of the church. Power and death are in the tongue. Be careful what you say about people, you will answer to God about every word you speak.

  9. v31″ But as for thee, stand thou here by me”

When we have done all we know to do.
Just stand. Stand on HIs Word, and Promises.
Intimacy(a relationship with GOD) is a place in prayer where Moses dwelt, and we can dwell there too.
“Under His wing, in the secret place hidden with GOD, HE is our shield”
    Praise GOD!
    iPray

  10. RESPONDING TO GOD
If we wonder what it means to respond to GODS voice this same verse tells us note the active verbs. We are to hear Gods words we are to learn their meaning and we are to be sure to follow them.If we do this we will be rich in experience of the presence of the living GOD.

  11. I loved hearing my God saying verse 29:O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commands always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!
Thinking about it make me pray to please God’s desire.

  12. What I found interesting is that between vs.24 and 27 is that the Israelites actually wanted for Moses to be the intercessor between God and them. The same way they actually wanted Moses to veil his face after he came down from the mountain in God’s pressence to get the commandments to begin with (Ex 34:35). God wants us to fear him enough to stay away from sin, but he doesn’t want for us to be so terrified that we do not want to see his glory, or hear him dirrectly. Don’t get me wrong, I love, love, love my pastor, his wife and all my church family, but I can’t think of anything I wouldn’t give to hear from God dirrectly.

  13. Vs 3 God made a promise not with our fathers but with us. To many people want what is promised to past generations, when God has a promise meant just for you.

  14. What really sticks out to me is that God will judge our children off of our actions. What we do and who we worship as parents affects our children for better or for worse.

  15. 29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

I feel the heart of the Lord saying this to me today. Lord let me have a heart after you.

  16. Maybe I am getting old and tired but the very first commandment says to keep the sabbath as a day of rest. Since Edison invented the lightbulb our rest ended. Maranatha!! Even so lord Jesus come!!!

  17. 7Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

There is only one true God and his name is Jesus. There is no other being that is able to set you free of whatever is weighing you down, but Jesus, He will take you higher than you ever thought and farther than you’ve ever been.

  18. This chapter illustrates reality. God’s ways make it very simple; “O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!” man’s ways make it very difficult. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. 7Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

This Chapter goes to show how god loves us so much, he reveals to us that his commandments is vital, he is the one and only GOD, we worship him and no other gods. Although it’s easy to get distracted from the word of god and fall into idol images that we can’t even think is an idol until we have been on that one specific idol for a while. How silly it is to miss out on Gods promises when we disobey. Lord help me examine myself to purify and destroy all that distracts me from getting closer to you.

  20. 29O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

30Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.

31But as for thee, stand thou here by me

Oh my…what power in that first part of v31…to be told to stand by God. Moses got himself aligned with the will of God and put himself in position to be standing next to the King of kings and Lord of lords…what an honor! And I have to believe by the wording of v29 that God wanted ALL of them to stand with Moses. Lord, help me have the fortitude to be able to stand with You, not to have to wait on others to be moved by You.

  21. 29O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

30Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.

31But as for thee, stand thou here by me

What power in that scripture….stand thou here by me. Moses had the honor of having a direct line of communication with the King of kings and was told to stand with him…but by the wording of v29, I have to believe that he desired for ALL of them to stand with him, not just Moses. I thank God that we live in a time that we can have a direct line of communication with Him and do not need a liaison in order to hear His word, as long as we have a clean heart and fear Him. He desires that kind of relationship with us and wants us to stand with Him as well.
