Deuteronomy Chapter 6

30 Days of Prayer

Day 26

Pray for the masses impacted by famine, disease, wars, natural disasters, and chaos upon the earth. Pray that this will turn many people to Jesus for salvation: “But the Lord is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9)

Deuteronomy 6

1Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:

2That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

3Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.

4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

9And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

10And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,

11And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;

12Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

13Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

14Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;

15(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

16Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

17Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

18And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers.

19To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.

20And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?

21Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh‘s bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:

22And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:

23And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

24And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.

25And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

  1. Vs 4-9 We should teach our children the word of God every waking hour, in everything they do, even in their education.

  2. 4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

    5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

    6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

    7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

    The word of God should be ingrained in every movement of our life.

  3. v 20-21 When your son asks you in time to come, saying, What is the meaning of the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgements which the Lord our God has commanded you?”
    “then say you say to your son; “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand

    We should always had a testimoy on our lips to honor what God has done for us!

    Scripture tells us that we are over-comers by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

  4. v4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our GOD is one LORD;
    v5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy GOD with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with a thy might.
    v7″ And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children”

    If our children don’t know the difference They won’t live the difference
    We must tell our children the people baptized in His Name and filled with His Spirit shall be His holy nation.
    If we love HIM like we should we will do like HE tells us to, and live a life consecrated to Him.
    We ( i ) love Him because HE first loved us
    We just don’t love because of what HE does for us, but we love HIM for who HE IS and who HE will be in the future.HE is the same GOD
    Great and wonderful, HE never changes.

  5. This chapter shows us the importance of not forgetting the blessings of God over our life as he allows us to prosper. It also reminds us that we need to teach our children the things that God has done in our lives and were he brought us from so that they can be blessed.

  6. 11And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
    12Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
    13Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
    14Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;

    We must be ever diligent about keeping God and His word in the forefront of our minds and hearts, remembering Him in ALL we do. If we do not build a solid relationship with God, we will have a hard time doing that.

    When we forget all that God has done for us, we set ourselves up for destruction. People tend to gravitate toward ease. Easy says not to tell others about Christ. Easy says not to worship if we don’t feel like it. Easy says not to serve when we’re tired.
    The word tells us to tell others, to serve Him, and to worship Him alone. We must keep His commands and precepts in the front of all we do, that He might be glorified as we work, we pray, we give, and as we reap…

  7. 10And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,

    11And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;

    These promises are still for us today. We are experiencing fullness from the wells that we have not dug, and the vineyards we have not planted.

  8. 7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

    We have to be careful how we talk and act in front of our kids cause they are going to do as we do. If we gossip our kids will gossip, if we steal our kids will steal……..You get the picture. We never know who is watching us in our walk with God. God help me to do as you will and not to be a hindrance to anyone.

  9. Matt. 22:36 Jesus echos the word of the law. “You shall love the Lord thy God with all your heart, with all your soul and all your mind. Until we do this all our works and aspirations will fail.

  10. vs. 24 says, ” And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.”

    I want to fear God. I want to love him with all my heart and soul and might. I want his words to be written on the table of mine heart. I want to teach my children, and those who come into my house, and those I meet along the way the word of God. Why? So that, I might be preserved alive at the day of his appearing.

  11. 12Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

    When God chooses to bless, we need to be thankful and humble. When pride causes us to seek the blessing more than the Lord, or to seek his hand more than his face, we lose sight of the reason and of what is important.

    “I see what you’ve done, your hard, hard work, your refusal to quit. I know you can’t stomach evil, that you weed out apostolic pretenders. I know your persistence, your courage in my cause, that you never wear out. “But you walked away from your first love-why? What’s going on with you, anyway? Do you have any idea how far you’ve fallen? A Lucifer fall! “Turn back! Recover your dear early love. No time to waste, for I’m well on my way to removing your light from the golden circle. (Revelation 2:2-5 MSG)

    ihumble myself
    ipray
    iseek his face
    irepent

  12. Verses 5-9 in the MSG version read….”Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got!
    Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.”

    Everything in our lives should read “JESUS”, show “JESUS”, act “JESUS” and everything in between!

  13. V25 “And it shall be our righteousness…”

    Praise God we can have righteousness beyond our own works, that He made available His own righteousness for us to be robed in!

  14. PLEASE THE ONE LORD GOD

    4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
    5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

    Every ordinance and principal of the Kingdom of GOD is founded and defined by this one principal and command.

    LOVE the ONE GOD with everything we have and he will LOVE us with everthing HE has.

    WE WIN! HE has EVERYTHING.

  15. Love God with all your heart soul and strength (Dt 6:5; Mt 22:37-38)
    Moses then gives the Israelites exceptional instructions: Write this comandment on your hands and foreheads, post it on your front door and all your interior doors, and talk about it at breakfast, at work and while you are getting ready for bed.
    We as people, share to commonalities with the Israelites: (1) we want to love God, and (2) we get sidetracked all too easily. Now that the promise land is so near they can taste it Moses cautions the people to Be careul. Obedience is key to sustaining a relationship with God that is right-living and strength-giving. The life of love is marked by activity, and obedience prompts us to live passionate, not passive lives. Echoed statements of this passage are found in Je 32:39; Eze 11:19 where God will give us his Holy Spirit and on fire for Him.

  16. This chapter illustrates duty. “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” This is all of our (everyone’s) duty/responsibility/obligation/reason for living/purpose of existence/meaning to life. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. 13Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

    Lord you are the I am, my redeemer, ruler of all. I Praise your name, may all people fear you like I fear you. Blessed be your name.

  18. 2That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

    …The secret formula to eternal life…here and after these vessels are worn beyond use.

  19. Everyone wants to have a prolonged life, why not do it the easy way? Follow GOD’s commands and he promisses longer life. I would aslo like to reap where I have not sown, but where someone else has tended.
