Deuteronomy Chapter 11

Deuteronomy 11

1Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.

2And know ye this day: for I speak not with your children which have not known, and which have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm,

3And his miracles, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land;

4And what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD hath destroyed them unto this day;

5And what he did unto you in the wilderness, until ye came into this place;

6And what he did unto Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben: how the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and all the substance that was in their possession, in the midst of all Israel:

7But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.

8Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;

9And that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

10For the land, whither thou goest in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs:

11But the land, whither ye go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven:

12A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

13And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

14That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.

15And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.

16Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

17And then the LORD’s wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.

18Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.

19And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

20And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:

21That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.

22For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;

23Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.

24Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be.

25There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.

26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

27A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:

28And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

29And it shall come to pass, when the LORD thy God hath brought thee in unto the land whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt put the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.

30Are they not on the other side Jordan, by the way where the sun goeth down, in the land of the Canaanites, which dwell in the champaign over against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh?

31For ye shall pass over Jordan to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein.

32And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and judgments which I set before you this day.

  1. 26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

    It’s amazing how many times the Israelites chose the curse over the blessing. But I can honestly say that I have been guilty of the same in my life, choosing the god of my will over the God of the heavens and the earth. It certainly didn’t get me anywhere fast, and whenever I did take the reigns I messed things up for myself royally. Matthew 6:24 says “No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” “…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15)

  2. We are reminded once again that if we obey the Word of God, then we will be blessed and live longer. If we do not obey we will have trouble and even be cursed.

  3. 22. For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;
    23. Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves

    If we will keep His commandments, love the Lord, walk His ways and cleave into Him, then he will fight for us and drive out the enemy before us. When He fights my battles, I don’t end up with battle scars; he already took those for me while on the cross.

  4. 13And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

    14That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.

    There is always a choice before us. We can choose a blessing or a curse. We are promised blessings of prosperity when we choose to obey the commandments of the Lord. Choose this day whom you will serve. I choose blessings, prosperity and a relationship with my God.

  5. 26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;
    27A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:
    28And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

    As the church we recieve huge blessings when we minister the word of God to the lost, but if we hide it in our hearts and neglect to let others know about God’s love, then later we will hwve the curse or guilt and shame of having to answer for not sharing His word with others on that great day of judgement….

  6. THE CHOICE OF BLESSING

    1 Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, alway.

    Often in life it is easy to become persuaded that things just happen to us that we have no control over. This statement is partially true; based on the words of the LORD our GOD, our choices have a great impact on many of the circumstances life presents us.

    We find again in verse 1 the command of obedience reveals our level of Love toward JESUS.

    JESUS (GOD) reminded us the importance of this command in John 14
    If ye love me, keep my commandments.
    John 14:20-22 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

    Disobedience displays rebellion which is an oct of hatred.

    Choose the BLESSED life of obedience over the cursed life of disobedience.

  7. 7But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.
    8Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;
    22For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;
    23Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than yourselves.

  8. NIV 26. No man will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go.

    27 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today

    28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.

    I want to obey his commands and be a blessing.

  9. This chapter talks about a choice. This seems like a “no-brainer”; but, every day we see family, friends and co-workers not being lead to make the right choice. We must do as verse 18-21 (MSG) says….

    “Place these words on your hearts. Get them deep inside you. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder. Teach them to your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning until you fall into bed at night. Inscribe them on the doorposts and gates of your cities so that you’ll live a long time, and your children with you, on the soil that God promised to give your ancestors for as long as there is a sky over the Earth.”

    I choose the Best Life, the Blessed Life!

  10. They knew what Egypt was like as little children. They watch the plagues, miracles, and awesome wonder of God. They witnessed how the mountain burned with fire, the smoke billowed, the voice like a trumpet resounded, and the glory of God manifested itself.

    They also witnessed their parents rebellion, and the death of them as well. Now they must choose to walk with God and not after the way of their parents.

    Had the parents obeyed, what a different story we would read. We must take our responsibility as parents as serious and somber.

    It is better to experience the blessings of God with our children, then to tell them of the blessing that is coming once we are out of the way.

  11. v13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your GOD, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

    HIS written word is powerful and beautiful .
    Angels desire to look into this …Wow!
    The scriptures says GOD hid it from the wise and prudent, Matt.11:25 and revealed it unto babes in Christ.
    v16 warns” to take heed that your heart be not deceived”
    Pride does not see the plan of salvation
    but the person who opens their heart, and humbly reads the word of GOD, and listens with hunger for Truth.
    We all need His Mercy and Grace

    LORD hide thy word in my heart that we may bear the fruits of your Spirit.

  12. 8Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;

    9And that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

    Strength and Life come by keeping the commandments of the Lord. There are many blessings in submitting and yielding yourself to God. Keep His commandments and you will be an overcomer and will have that which the Lord promised you!

  13. 26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

    Doing the commandments of the Lord we get blessings disobeying the word going against the man of God we get a curse. I want to get/be a blessing I do not want to be the one that causes my family/friends to get a curse. God thank you for your many blessings and a Pastor that preaches it to us straight.

  14. 8Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;

  15. 26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

    The Lord is an awesome god he blesses us when we follow his commands and do good, and curses when we disobey. He loves us so much that he warns us not to anger him because then he’d have no choice but to curse us and we will eventually parish.

    This chapter shows me how great God is! How powerful his word is. God hates sin he wants us and our children to serve him, follow his commands, to love him with all our hearts and soul, worship him and praise him.

    Lord I want nothing more than to please you, thank you for grace, your blessings and for what you have in store for me. Help me follow your commands and to obey you always.

  16. Deut 11:8 Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess NIV

    Check out: 2 Chron 20:17
    But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the LORD’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you!” NLT

    and Matt 16:24
    Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.NIV

    Their will be mountains that we are called to move, alone we can do nothing but with God we can do anything….IF we are in position, it is his will and if we are following obediently.

  17. NIV 16 Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.

    We can easilly be turned away from God by our natural flesh. It is so easy to worship idols. We have to realize when we are failing to praise and worship Jesus. Lets be careful and not fall into satans traps of deceit.

  18. This chapter is reminding me to take God’s Word and write it upon my heart and soul. It is reminding me of the greatness of God, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm to me. I know and have seen the mighty acts of God many many times in my life. This chapter is reminding me that I need to be a witness everyday and everywhere I go and to everyone I meet. From the time that I rise in the morning to the time I lay down at night, may my heart be fixed on thee O LORD.

  19. Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;
    A similar word in other part said the life and the dead are before you choose the life.

  20. v1NJK Therefore you shall love the Lord your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgements, and His commandments always.

    This scripture says ALWAYS.
    Not just when things are going good.
    Not just when we feel like it.
    Not just when we WANT something
    But ALWAYS in obedience we should live our daily life.

  21. 18Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.

    This blessing reaches further than just to us-it extends even to our children who may not have ever witnessed the greatness or even the terribleness of our God-as this chapter states in the beginning. We are blessed and our children are also benefactors! Thank you Lord. Help me keep your commandments and your will as frontlets between my eyes! Daily let me seek your will and not my own.

  22. Cleave unto Him! It’s part of the formula for possessing your promise. Many things will try to seperate your from Him but in the midst of it all C L E A V E UNTO HIM!

  23. V7 “But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.”

    Sometimes God brings us through some things so we have the basis of experience to fall back on when we go forward in tough times. The voice of our own testimony is sometimes what we need to hear preached to us in the dark times when the feeling of faith fails us and we are left with the decision of faith. And that testimony is not just to us, but to those following as well, v7-8, 18-20:

    “7 But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did. 8 Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;”

    “18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates”

    Heb 12:1-2 “1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

  24. This chapter illustrates directness. “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse”, Moses was straightforward he did not tickle their ears. The world is full of deception; therefore we should thank God whenever the man of God does the same. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  25. Blessing or cursing… The choice is ours. Walk in his ways, keep his commandments, teach our children the same and be blessed or disregard his commandments, do our own thing and be cursed. We like the children of Israel have the same choices to make. We can reap the blessing or reap the curse

  26. 8Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it;

    If we hold on to the promises of God we can’t go wrong.
