Deuteronomy Chapter 26

Deuteronomy 26

1And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein;

2That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there.

3And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those days, and say unto him, I profess this day unto the LORD thy God, that I am come unto the country which the LORD sware unto our fathers for to give us.

4And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God.

5And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous:

6And the Egyptians evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard bondage:

7And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression:

8And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:

9And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey.

10And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God:

11And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.

12When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled;

13Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the hallowed things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the Levite, and unto the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them.

14I have not eaten thereof in my mourning, neither have I taken away ought thereof for any unclean use, nor given ought thereof for the dead: but I have hearkened to the voice of the LORD my God, and have done according to all that thou hast commanded me.

15Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

16This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

17Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice:

18And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;

19And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.

  1. This chapter is telling the children of Israel what to do once they arrive, and take over and get settled at the land that God gave them as an inheritance.

  2. Vs 10>
    Pretty well describes the whole chapter …when we tithe or give offerings we should do it wholeheartedly alright along with obeying His word
    He is very powerful and Almighty and the King of Kings why shouldn’t I do this it’s His word says so and that’s good enough for me.

  3. Once you enter the land that God, your God, is giving you as an inheritance and take it over and settle down, VS 1 MSG

    I love what this verse says, many people enter into the land that God has given them, but they run into one of 2 problems, either they dont take it over, or they dont settle down. Many times when people are having problems in the church either, they havent conquered flesh, or they have not submitted to their pastor.

  4. Verses 16-18 in the CEV read….”Today the LORD your God has commanded you to obey these laws and teachings with all your heart and soul. In response, you have agreed that the LORD will be your God, that you will obey all his laws and teachings, and that you will listen when he speaks to you. Since you have agreed to obey the LORD, he has agreed that you will be his people and that you will belong to him, just as he promised.”

    The Lord is our God and we are his people.

  5. 17Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice:

    18And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;

    19And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.

    Peculiar – His prized possession, set apart for only Him. I’m thankful to be chosen by the Lord.

  6. TITHING 101

    2 That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there.
    3 And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those days, and say unto him, I profess this day unto the LORD thy God, that I am come unto the country which the LORD sware unto our fathers for to give us.
    4 And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God.

    What an incredible revelation! Tithing is so much more than writing out a check, putting cash in an envelope or paying on line. Tithing is understanding what belongs to GOD and honoring HIM by giving to HIM what is his.

    I am particularly thankful for this passage in regards to HOW we give at The POFW; everyone brings their gift to the LORD and places it in a basket and then placed on the altar of the LORD.

    Evidence of true relationship is someone that is faithful to TITHE.

  7. 17Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice:

    18And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou

    19And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.

    What great promise

  8. 18 And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;

    19 And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.

    I love that word “peculiar”, I was speaking not long ago to my Sis Boyd of how some people watch us and sometimes even point us out, they think we are weird. I love the word peculiar: : characteristic of only one person, group, or thing : distinctive, different from the usual or normal: a : special, particular, odd, curious.

  9. Avouch in the webster dictionary – 2. To affirm positively, proclaim. 3. To acknowledge, a vow.

    Vs.17-19, “Thou hast AVOUCHED the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgements, and to hearken unto his voice: And the LORD hath AVOUCHED thee this day to be HIS PECULIAR PEOPLE, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be AN HOLY PEOPLE unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.”

    1 Peter 2:9, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people….”

  10. 18 -19 And today God has reaffirmed that you are dearly held treasure just as he promised, a people entrusted with keeping his commandments, a people set high above all other nations that he’s made, high in praise, fame, and honor: you’re a people holy to God, your God. That’s what he has promised. Msg

  11. 10And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God:

    11And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.

  12. 17Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice:
    18And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;
    19And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.

    As the church, we must walk in His ways, keppe His commands, judgements, and statutes, and we must also harken to His voice.

  13. v16 This day the LORD thy GOD hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments:thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul

    There is power in obedience. HE is our perfection.

  14. God chose us even though we are unworhty. He proves he is God by choosing people and places that no one else would choose and make something out of nothing. Think about it-would you want to live in a place as desolate as the middle east? Not me, yet God chose this area himself to be the center of His kingdom here on earth!

  15. this chapter is telling me that when i give unto the Lord that i should do it with my whole heart and not think about what is to come because the 1st fruits is His and the offerings should be done with Love. it is also telling me to obey all of Gods word

  16. 3And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those days, and say unto him, I profess this day unto the LORD thy God, that I am come unto the country which the LORD sware unto our fathers for to give us.

    4And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God.

    Reading this passage makes me feel what a great joy it must have been to be bringing back to God a basket of the fruits of ground/land that was GIVEN! Sure, they might have had to till the ground and plant the seed-but they just possesed the land free! What a joy to come and show God the good of the land that he had promised them! What rejoicing around that altar there must have been to see that it was a land flowing with milk & honey!
    Is it not, then, our reasonable service to serve him? To recite (for rememberance sake) all that He has done-he kept his promise-then to recite all that they were responsible to do to? They would then continue to receive his blessings! Freely they received and now they are to freely give: to the stranger, the widow, the Levites & the fatherless children. That’s not much in return for all God has done for them. Thank you Jesus for the opportunity to give back to you!

  17. The Lord is teaching us to reap what we sow, he allows us to keep some of the fruit the new land reaps even though all of it is his. He commands us to give him what is rightfully his the first fruits, the tenth, what a little price to pay for all he gives us, we honor him by giving the first fruits and tenth to the Levites. How loving and caring is our God. He’s so big and mighty his love is unconditional. He loves us no matter how poor we are, he never leaves us nor forsakes us. The Lord always has our back. What an awesome god we have. Lord thank you for your word I seek you.

  18. “Then you shall declare before the Lord” vs5 tells me that the Lord doesn’t need to be reminded, it is for the sake of His people.. He wants them to understand why they are required to tithe, not just because “you told/commanded me too” but because… “Its important to me to be obedient to you Lord, and give back to you from what you have blessed me with.” They need to know what and why they are required to do know before they (and we) can move forward.”He brought us to this land flowing with milk and honey, and now I bring the 1st fruits of the soil that you, have given me. Place the basket before the Lord and bow down before Him.” vs9-10 Is used to reverance God that we recieve these blessing and land only because of Him. It is signifigantly important that we understand why we give back/tihe/reverance the Lord like we do with joy in our hearts, otherwise it could become a spirit of religion…just doing what we are told to earn salvation. The Lord’s love is not to be earned but is freely given to us by His blood, His love and His mercy.

  19. The Lord requires us to obey his commands, to give him the first fruits and the tenth, what a little price to pay for he gives us so much more. He blesses us when we obey his commands. What an awesome God. Thank you Lord for your everlasting love.

  20. This chapter illustrates commitment. We must lean the same committed as found here so we too can pray; “Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people”. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  21. 7And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression:

    8And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:

    The Lord will always hear the cry of his children. Just ask what you will and let God do the rest.

  22. NIV
    V 18. And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possessions as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands.

    I am HIS treasure possession!
