Deuteronomy Chapter 32

Deuteronomy 32

1Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

2My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

3Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

5They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.

6Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?

7Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.

8When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

9For the LORD’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

10He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.

11As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

12So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.

13He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock;

14Butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.

15But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

16They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.

17They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.

18Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

19And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.

20And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.

21They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

22For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

23I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them.

24They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.

25The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs.

26I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men:

27Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD hath not done all this.

28For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.

29O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

30How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

31For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.

32For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:

33Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.

34Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?

35To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

36For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.

37And he shall say, Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted,

38Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and help you, and be your protection.

39See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

40For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.

41If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.

42I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.

43Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.

44And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.

45And Moses made an end of speaking all these words to all Israel:

46And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.

47For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life: and through this thing ye shall prolong your days in the land, whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

48And the LORD spake unto Moses that selfsame day, saying,

49Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:

50And die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people:

51Because ye trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of MeribahKadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel.

52Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel.

Disobedience and unbelief will forfeit the promises of GOD. It forces GOD to take
    v35 vengeance and recompence;
GOD is not a mocker nor is HE a cruel GOD,
but a GOD that keeps HIS WORD.
HE allowed Moses to see the land just as HE promised him.
That’s why Moses encouraged the people to repent of their disobedience.
GOD is a GOD of judgment and of mercy.

    ***NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE COMPARISON***

(Mat 6:24) No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

***If we love money, or anything else more than we love (agape) God…We HATE God.

    ***CONCLUSION***

(Rev 19:15) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

(Rev 19:16) And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

  3. Bittersweet Recitals

Moses came and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and Joshua son of Nun. (Deuteronomy 32:44 MSG)

    The Rock
    God of Justice
    God of Vengance
    God of Sealed Up Treasures
    God of Life
    God of Healing

This God, this faithful Rock Was the source of the many victories of His people but they repeatedly stirred up the jealously of the Lord. God is a God of judgement and he uses Moses to recite these things to the people to remind them the God is the only rock of their salvation!

    Yes Moses! Yes Moses!

Could you imagine the response from the people as they were reminded of the great and terrible God? The amazement as some asked the elders of how it used to be? Such excitement…

But Moses, it was a bittersweet recital for him because as the memory of his great journey in life would end with just a glimpse of what he spent his life chasing.

  4. We too live a generation that does not follow God the way it should. We must stay close to God and not fall from the divers temptations of this end time. God’s Word says that if his people, called by his name will pray and seek his face, that he will heal our land. We may be the only hope this generation has. We must continue to pray, work, give and there is no limit to the reaping that we can do.

  5. SELF-PROMOTION + SELF-RECOGNITION = PRIDE

39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
40 For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.

Man too often seeks and takes credit and responsibility for what only GOD has the authority to perform. GOD repeatedly affirms to HIS people the authority that only HE possess.

Since the first family in the garden; man has sought to do things his own way; while GOD Creator and Founder of the earth; repeatedly establishes his own authority.

There is no room for any other god!

    God is Omniscient!
    God is Omnipresent!
    God is Omnipotent!

Knowledge, Space and Time, Authority are already FILLED with GOD! Who are we to add to his perfected creation?

Lucifer attempted and was rebuked and so shall we be.

    Isaiah 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

Thank you LORD for being MY source and forgive me for attempting to accomplish YOUR WILL my way by attempting to add little gods to your creation.

  6. It’s so easy to make a god of our life the things we do the money we make. God will say that’s your god? Dose it heal you? Does it rise you each day dose it save you? And if we with our words action say yes God say ok destroy yourself.

  7. Msg – 48-50 That same day God spoke to Moses: “Climb the Abarim Mountains to Mount Nebo in the land of Moab, overlooking Jericho, and view the land of Canaan that I’m giving the People of Israel to have and hold. Die on the mountain that you climb and join your people in the ground, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and joined his people.

51-52 “This is because you broke faith with me in the company of the People of Israel at the Waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin—you didn’t honor my Holy Presence in the company of the People of Israel. You’ll look at the land spread out before you but you won’t enter it, this land that I am giving to the People of Israel.”

This chapter reveals to us that God is a jealous God and He has set before His people instructions of wisdom and knowledge that He desires for us to live our life following. However, as we can even in our present day, people get fat on the blessings of God, and then separate themselves unto their own thinking and ways, and begin serving and following strange Gods just like in this chapter.

We “break faith” with God by thinking we know more than He does, and that the path that he prepared for His people is no longer necessary to follow. We don’t honor His presence when we come together as a body of believers because we are so full or ourselves and carnality that we think we know better than God!

    • Awesome!
This reminded me of the AmberAlert
They turned off the flashing alert, even though the child was still missing.
The reason given was because they did not want the people to become accustom and insensitive to the Amber Alert signs.
The thought came to my mind GOD is so good HE Blesses us with His presence
We must not lose respect nor take His presence for granted, and become insensitive unmindful of HIS SPIRT.
When we come before HIS Presence we are standing on Holy Ground.
      iWant more of JESUS!

  8. 21They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

I am thankful that God chose those who were not a people, and a foolish nation. Without this I would not be saved!

  9. Just as God took in the people of Israel when they were lost and in a barren land so has God taken us in. He picked us up and showed to us all of his glory, power, authority and gave to us his spirit so that we can obtain life everlasting and peace within. But what will we choose to do with this power, authority and life everlasting? Will we push it to the side and allow other gods to rule in our lives that can give us only that which brings unfulfilled promises, hurt, disappointment, questions, misery and everything else that is not of God? I say it is foolishness and brings a destiny that no one in this life would want to have.

Choose this day whom you will serve!

  10. It is sad to say that when things are going great the majority of people forget the God that blessed them with their lives in the first place. It is this people that when the plane is going down are the first to scream Oh My God!!! It is in their adversity that they remember He exists, that He is the Rock where everything leans upon. Who were they serving, pleasing, praying to, and spending time with during the good times? On the other hand, when a true believer praises God for the good times and is thankful, the devil attempts to destroy & steal; it is then when we got to Praise a little harder, Worship with all we got, & give a shout of Victory. For our God is our God in the good times & during the battle!!! HE IS THE GIVER OF VICTORY!!

  11. 4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

5They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.

6Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?

God created us made us and formed us, blessed us and gives us mercy and love, Why would we want to sin against him when he is the one who gave us life?

  12. i thank God for His promises. He is a awesome God, His word tells us that if we believe and obey Him that He has the treasures in Heaven that is already waiting for us. God is a foregiving God if we repent with our whole heart. i thank God for His word

  13. 27 Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD hath not done all this.
28 For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.
29 O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!
30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?
31 For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
32 For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:
33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.
34 Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?
35 To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

There are alot of things that I could blog about in this chapter, but this is the thing that popped out.

As true believers, we often forget were God has brought us from. That we were once the enemy of God. As I was talking to one of my new coworkers ,we were talking about our birthdays and she made a comment about what my “sign”was. I thought to myself, ” How sad. To think that she believes in this. That she needs to know the truth about God.” Than later I was talking to another coworker ,and come to find out she doesn’t want to become to close to friends because she has been hurt by someone before. I had that opprotunity to tell her that I understood what she was saying, and that people will fail you. But that God would always be there. She told me that she would think about that.

So why I’m I saying all this? Because these are the people that I am in contact with each day. And to think that Biblically they are the enemies of God,and as a true christian ineed to do something. iknow the Truth. iseek His face everyday that I live. And if idon’t than who will reach a hand out to help them.

  14. 9For the LORD’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

10He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.

I am thankful that the Lord found me in my desert place and howling wilderness. He saw fit to lead me out and instruct me in his path. He kept me from my own self destruction, there is no doubt that we are the apple of his eye.

  15. 18Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

the message bible says in verse 18 He abandoned the God who made him, he mocked the Rock of his salvation.
How many people have mocked the rock of there salvation. They continue in sin, they reject God when he has stretched out his hand to them. When he has told them build your house on the rock and not the sinking sand.

I call him Jesus my rock, and upon him I will stand.

  16. Vs 37 Then he will say, “Where are their gods? Where is the rock they trusted? 38 Who ate the fat from their sacrifices, and who drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let those gods come to help you! Let them protect you! 39 “Now you will see that I am the one God! There is no god but me. I send life and death; I can hurt, and I can heal. No one can escape from me. NCV

After sin is done with you it leads you to a dead end. A song I heard says this “Cause evil things, and the grief it brings Won’t help you when, famine sings its song.” Listen to wisdom crying out. What is she telling you?

Proverbs4:21-23 Mark well that GOD doesn’t miss a move you make; he’s aware of every step you take. The shadow of your sin will overtake you; you’ll find yourself stumbling all over yourself in the dark. Death is the reward of an undisciplined life; your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end. MSG

Who is like the Lord? What rock do you trust in? No one can compare to our God.

1 Samuel 2: 2 “There is no one holy like the Lord. There is no God but you; there is no Rock like our God. NCV

  17. 15But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

When times are hard or when we are going through a bitter trial, we cry out to God, we need Him and we draw close to Him out of that necessity. Then the seasons of our lives change and we become blessed of God. When times are blessed, do we still cry to God-not for self, but for those suffering around us? Do we let up on prayer, or in searching and seeking for Him to intervene in the everyday lives of our families and friends?

It’s this time of blessing that Moses was told that the people would rebel and serve other gods. We must examine ourselves during the blessings so that WE are not fat from excess -too fat too help someone in need. Help us to not become like the people God warned Moses about.

7Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee

    He is the Rock!

  18. 20 And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: For they are a very perverse generation, Children in whom is no faithfulness.

It is so easy to be in a lost generation. It only takes one father or mother to lead his children, and grandchildren into a perverse generation. And it continues on and on.

But it only takes one parent to have faith in God. The cycle can easily be overturned by one prayer, one repentance, and one baptism in Jesus name. The generation will more than likely continue in a path of righteousness. It only takes one to make the difference between right and wrong.

  19. v10 NIV In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye.
v11 like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions.

    Our God is our Protector!

  20. 4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

God is that solid foundation that we can stand on. His way is the only way that is perfect. If we desire to excel in the spirit, we’re going to have to seek the face of God and stand on his word. In him is truth and his righteousness is our hope.

  21. This chapter illustrates defiance. Moses was a great man of God; however he was denied passage into the Promised Land because of his disobedience. We (I) must examine our (my) actions for we (I) have also been disobedient both knowingly and unknowingly. This is why Pastor teaches and preaches the Word, for without it we (I) would surely be lost. This is why we must pray (ipray) for each other, for someone surely prayed for us. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  22. V15 “…and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.”

What powerful words. How often do we lightly esteem the Rock of our salvation? Is He truly to us what we proclaim Him to be, or do our lips sing one praise while our hearts proclaim Him to be less than the God His word says He is. Is He really our number 1, our Savior, our strong tower, or is He just our option A with B waiting in the wings when we perceive God has failed us or don’t like His way. The list goes on. Really turned the light of self-exam on.

  23. The Song of Moses vs1-43
In order to reach people who are lost we are going to have think on their level. No, I don’t mean become perverse. More like here in this a example where Moses breaks it down in song. Jesus came to earth to save us, Paul spoke to people on there level of spiritual maturity. Since few of the Israelites can read or write, history has to be passed down in oral forms. I believe this may have been one of the reasons why God picked Moses, he was educated in Egypt and able to write all these accounts down for generations like us to learn from. A song, with its rythm and literary patterns, helps the people remember more easily than a straight narrative might. Think about it, Why do kids have so many educational songs?

One of the most repeated words in the book of Deuteronomy is “remember”. Moses knows all too well the reality o human forgetfulness. He wisely gave this somg to the Hebrews, knowing that, in recalling their deliverance, they are more than likely to live as free people. The Psalmist actually enourages us just like Moses to “sing a new song unto the Lord.” so we can create our own songs of deliverance. Just remembering God’s work in our lives will strengthen us to live like someone who has been set free. “It is for freedom that Christ has Christ has set us free.”(Gal 5:1) Sing a song of freedom! It can uplift your spirit, create an atmosphere of praise which the Lord dwells in, and rub off on someone who is stuck in the box of carnality. Once I expose my sillyness, my daring to step out ..they may feel more confident about stepping out too. David danced holy spirit crazy with abandon to self (dignitarian midset), once we can forget ourself then we can give all our praise to God.

  24. The end of this chapter verses 51-52 in the MSG read…”This is because you broke faith with me in the company of the People of Israel at the Waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin—you didn’t honor my Holy Presence in the company of the People of Israel. You’ll look at the land spread out before you but you won’t enter it, this land that I am giving to the People of Israel.” Moses could only see the promise that was before him; but, he would never partake of it because he did not honor God’s Holy Presence. We need to make sure we don’t get caught up in thinking we know what to do instead of stopping and listening for the voice of direction (God).

  25. 7Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.

Isnt it awesome how each day you read the scripture God reveals something else. I already commented on this chapter but rereading it today, brough to mind something I have been studying on. Remembrance. Remebering our heritage and where we have come from. Remebering the ones who prayed for the holy ghost when no one had ever spoken in tounges. Remebering those who preached a message withhout having a mentor to counsel him or an elder to correct him. We must remeber. ask our elders. ask our fathers.

  26. Moses gave a teremondous word, promisses and curses both. I hope that when I hear the word from a man of God that I take heed and change my ways so I am not destroyed.
