Deuteronomy Chapter 33

Deuteronomy 33

1And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.

2And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

3Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words.

4Moses commanded us a law, even the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob.

5And he was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.

6Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few.

7And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.

8And of Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;

9Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.

10They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.

11Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands; smite through the loins of them that rise against him, and of them that hate him, that they rise not again.

12And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

13And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath,

14And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,

15And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills,

16And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.

17His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

18And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and, Issachar, in thy tents.

19They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand.

20And of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad: he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head.

21And he provided the first part for himself, because there, in a portion of the lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments with Israel.

22And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion’s whelp: he shall leap from Bashan.

23And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of the LORD: possess thou the west and the south.

24And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil.

25Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

26There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.

27The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

28Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.

29Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

  1. v27 The eternal GOD is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee;
    and shall say Destroy them.

There are times in our life that we ( i ) feel we don’t have any strength, no power, and we struggle with our faith.
Thank GOD we can fall into HIS arms.
    Isn’t the LORD Wonderful!
HE is our refuge, and through HIM we can destroy our enemy.
    iLove JESUS!

  2. We are a blessed people to have the opportunity of the Holy Ghost. God has a special blessing for each of us if we will remain faithful and follow his Word.

  3. 7And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.

    ***SCRIPTURE COMPARISON***

(Psa 8:2) Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

    ***NEW TESTIMENT SCRIPTURE***

(Mat 21:15) And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,

(Mat 21:16) And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

    ***CONCLUSION***

    *JUDAH MEANS PRAISE.

*MOSES PRAYS THAT GOD WILL HELP JUDAH FROM HIS ENEMIES.

*HE (GOD) STILL SHUTS THE ENEMY’S MOUTH WHEN WE PRAISE GOD

*WE SHOULD PRAISE GOD ALL DAY LONG.

  4. 12And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

    ***BREAK IT DOWN***
WHEN YOU “JAM” IN THE MUSIC OF THE LORD, THE LORD WILL COVER YOU.

    (BEEN) (JAM) (ING)= Benjamin

(It’s ok to have fun with a play with words if it still glorifies the Word.)

  5. THE HALL OF BLESSING

29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

This chapter reveals the BLESSINGS of GOD upon HIS people. What a BLESSED people we are!

See the 7 promises GOD has made to his people.

    1. Happiness
    2. Uniqueness
    3. Saved
    4. Assisted (Shield of Help)
    5. Empowered (Sword of Excellency)
    6. Protected (Lying Enemies)
    7. Victorious

29 Lucky Israel! Who has it as good as you?
    A people saved by God!
    The Shield who defends you,
    the Sword who brings triumph.
Your enemies will come crawling on their bellies
and you’ll march on their backs. MSG

    iPray

  6. The last words of Moses to the Israelites shows the attitude of the leader. Even though he knew that he would not physically enter the land of promise, He spoke the blessings on those who would.

  7. In this chapter every one (tribe) received a blessing, special blessing according to his personality, and his background, but every tribe received a blessing from God!
    Blessed are you, oh Israel.
Thank God for make us enter in these blessings! Praise the Lord!

  8. #1) Family Ties
As a women I found vs9 a little unsetling. Forget our families? Is that what Moses is commending these Levites for? Not quite. Actually Moses is praising the Levites for their commitments to to God’s Word above all else, including family ties. Does this mean they (or we) should ignore their families, concentrating all efforts on God given ministry tasks? Not at all. But their commitments are to maintain a strong connection fisrt to God then their family.
Sometimes when children wander away from home, or marriages are disappointing, people are tempted to do the opposite of the Levites and forget God. Whether in good times or bad, our hearts need to first be turned to God’s Word, because it alone is the “lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path” of life (Ps 119:105). In a divine paradox we find that a wholehearted commitment to God’s Word -putting Him first- enlarges our hearts and provides greater vigor to love our families. Jesus said in Mt 10:37“Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” He is looking for a bride who above all else longs and hungers for Him alone.

  9. 29Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

  10. #2) When the Arrows are Flying
    Dt 33:29

Moses ends with a metaphor comparing God to a shield and sword. But unlike the shield held only in front, or the sword wielded against a single attacker, God is able to surround His people and gloriously be in all directions. He calls them to lift their eyes to the One who has chosen them, surrounds them, and promises to deliver them. Why they (we) face obstacles they (we) need remember that God is their sword and and their shield. He goes before and behind on the battlefield. He even goes to great lengths to show this to them in odd ways that no one could question if it was by some other reasoning, like Jericho in Josh 6:3 “March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. 5When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in.” blew their trumpets and broke the jars (Jud 7:19). Their is no mistaking to be made when God fights we not understand why he calls us to do something, but when we obey the victory will be ours. When the arrows start to fly, they (we) can look beyond ourselves to the One who is the Promise.

    Psa 3:3But you are a shield around me, O Lord;
you bestow glory on me and liftb up my head.
4To the Lord I cry aloud,
and he answers me from his holy hill NIV

Psa 91:4He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,

  11. Knowing his end is not far off, Moses offered a blessing unto each specific tribe that he had been so privileged to lead, but first once again, he rehearsed to the people of God, the triumphants of the Lord.

And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

Howbeit that we too often forget the triumphants of the Lord. Just like the children of Israel when wandering in the wilderness it seems that they couldn’t remember from day to the day what God had done for them, and they wre always found murmuring and complaining. Lord help me to rehearse in my own mind every day the daily benefits that my life is loaded with so that I don’t become complacent, unappreciative, ungrateful and unthankful.

  12. In this scripture, it is a real assurance that someone Most High, is watching from the most highest point of view, to ensure the safety of his children. God is riding in the Heavens for our help, and he definately out ranks the Prince of the Air “Satan”, he will not fail us. By the way those are some serious biceps to be in…God’s Arms, Amen. He not only is able to flush out our enemies, but command us to destroy them. “Wow”….then we can hide in those arms as well…then he blesses us with safety and food & drink. We also, will be treading on their high places, “Walking on Higher Ground”…We difinately made the right decision when we said yes to Jesus….Amen.

    “Be Church, Be Blessed”….Mark A. Ridenour….

  13. 29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

What a great promise of VICTORY over ALL the enemies!!!! Isaiah 54:17
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

    • Deut.33:3 yes,He loves the people;all His saints are in your hand;they sit down at Your feet; everyone receives your word.

      12.of Benjamin he said:

The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him,who shelters him all the day long and he shall dwell between his shoulders”
God THANK YOU FOR ALL THE PROMISSES YOU HAVE GIVEN TO US,for it’s your will that we get a hold of them, and truely believe that you will do it,.
      GOD=[LOVE,mercy,power,compation,ruler,protection,guidance…..]
Psalm 103.2Bless the Lord ,O my soul
And forget not all His benefits…..

  14. 18And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and, Issachar, in thy tents.

19They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand.

    – -We should rejoice when we go out on outreach passing out flyers to those who need God we should thank God for the people that he will be bringing in to the church and when they visit we should also praise God for leading them to the House of God. Giving God praise for new comers and converts he will continue to bless the church with new souls.

  15. Just reading about the blessing that god told mosses that he has given to each person in this chapter helps me to hold on even stronger. God doesnt have to tell me on advance the blessings he has for me his word says that the blessings r there for me if I just hold on n that is what I will do hold on to his word n do the best that I cn to please my heavenly fathet

  16. Verse 1 in the NLT reads…”This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave to the people of Israel before his death:”. Moses could have played the blame game or complained about not being able to enter the promise land; but, as a good leader he chose to bless.

  17. 29 The Lord has rescued you and given you more blessings
    than any other nation.
He protects you like a shield
    and is your majestic sword.
Your enemies will bow in fear,
    and you will trample
    on their backs.

The people of Israel were rescued and then promised protection. Through his word we can find protection and security. The enemy cannot argue with the word and fighting against it is a battle already lost from the very thought.
Thank you Jesus for your protection. For I am safe and secure in your arms!

12And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

    ***Awesome Scripture***
Wish I would have used this scripture with “Intimate Prayer.”

    Beloved of the Lord.

    *Benjamin
    *David
    *John the Beloved Disciple

  19. In verse 12 it say God will dell between his shoulders what’s between the shoulders? The heart now that’s the natural look but what he is saying is God dells in his life in everything he dose.
What would happen if we as christans get God in everything we do?

  20. In the last chapter God warned Moses about what His people would do when He was gone . BUT,even through this Moses chose to Bless Gods people. It is no wonder God chose him to lead the people. We would rather wipe the dust from our feet when we are rejected and pronounce cursing!

  21. Moses is about to take his last journey up Mt. Nebo to see the promised land and die.
But first as the spiritual father of Israel Moses pronounces a blessing on the 12 tribes. Inthat time such a blessing had special legal and prophetic significance. Moses blessings takes the form of praise prayers predicitionsand commands for each tribe.

  22. v11 …strike the loins of those you come against you …

    *
Anybody who wanna make fun if us and make war with us …we can pop then in the mouth!…
    …only with Jesus!!:)

  23. God had a blessing for each son of Israel based on who they were, what they did and their nature. That shows me that God knows my nature, my heart-He knows me even better than I know myself! I’m sure that some of the sons might have felt they didn’t get a true blessing, but God dealt out to them what He desired to give and they could do with it what they wanted. (I think you can even take lemons and make lemonaide) So, today, God pours out His Spirit-the same Holy Spirit to each of us who hungers and thirsts, but we too can utilize this blessing-either to it’s fullest-or just barely use to get by! That also depends on who we are-our nature! I want to be like David-a man after God’s own heart. I desire to use His Spirit to seek His face and to be close enough to lay my head on His chest.

  24. Underneath It All

Just a simple phrase, a single verse in the scripture holds so much power for those that are seeking refuge and feel like they have hit rock bottom. You can’t get too low to where the lord can’t reach you not can you have an enemy the lord cannot defeat.

Underneath all adversity, trials, and challenges God’s EVERLASTING arms are there and he knows how to hold us!

  25. 7And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.

Praise is sufficient and a help to us from our enemies!

  26. Unity in Praise

7 Moses said this about the tribe of Judah:

“O LORD, hear the cry of Judah and bring them together as a people. Give them strength to defend their cause; help them against their enemies!”

My prayer for the Music ministry (Judah) is for us to reach our goal to be the “One (unity)” to lead whole heartedly with anointed praise and worship.

  27. V27 “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms…”

Sometimes being in the will of God takes us through seasons where we go through valleys and lows that don’t always make sense. The blessing in hitting rock bottom when in the will of God is that you’ve hit the Rock bottom; “the eternal God is thy refuge” no matter whether you are led into plenty or into the wilderness for a season. It doesn’t matter how low you feel you’ve gone in the valley, “underneath are the everlasting arms.”

  28. 12And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

I see children all the time riding on the shoulders of there fathers, and there not scared of falling off, or that something will happen, because they know that their father has hold of them., Imagine dwelling between the shoulders of God. In a place of safety, a place so high up that our enemies cant touch us. WOW thats where I want to live

  29. This chapter illustrates submission. “And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.” This is why Pastor teaches on submission to God, and those God has placed in authority (such as Moses). Blessings will come from God because of our submission to those in authority (such as Moses), and because of the prayers of those in authority (such as Moses) that are submitted to God. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  30. 26There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.

Truly there is none like our God. One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism. Let’s serve the one and only true God.

  31. 29Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

I find that not only did the whole group of people get blessed, but there were specific blessings poured out on the leaders that consistantly listened to GOD. LISTEN to GOD!
