Joshua Chapter 3

Joshua 3

1And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

2And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;

3And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

4Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

5And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.

6And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

7And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

8And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.

9And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God.

10And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

11Behold, the ark of the covenant of the LORD of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.

12Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

13And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the LORD of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.

14And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;

15And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

16That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

17And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.

    The leading Of The LORD
The question is not does HE lead us? but how do we receive HIs guidance? Through prayer and HIS precious Word.
Thank GOD HE calls HIS own sheep by name and leads them out John 10:3
We can count on GOD and the man of GOD HE has placed in our lives. To guide us in ALL decisions great or small.

  2. Uncharted Waters

Initiation, hazing, and getting jumped into a gang happen to carnal groups, we can see clearly that we will be getting tested by who we follow, in our case its the Lord. No he isnt using us for taget practice, you can trust that Abba Daddy don’t miss when he strikes. But now Joshua is the new boss giving orders given to him from the Most High. The Lord plans to prove to the Israelites in a display that he is every bit with Joshua as he was with Moses vs7. This will require faith, and cooperation from the Isrealites. The plan sounds great, just tread right by. Sounds similar to the Red Sea being parted with Moses at Exodus 14:21 stretching out his hand. Its not gonna be that easy this time around. But God has a plan, he himself will lead them. Remember Jn 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.NIV.The waters part, but only when the priests walk forward by faith & their feet touch the waters edge vs15-16.

At certain times of the yr the Jordan is about a 100ft wide and flows slowly southward until it meets with the Dead Sea, durring which times its not difficult to wade across. They however have reached the Jordan in the middle of flood season, when the snows are melting, the spring rains are falling, and the water rushing past at 10 to 12 ft deep. It is easy to step into the shallow and slow-moving Jordan. But God is calling Israel to take their step of faith into the Jordan at the peak of the flood season! He is calling us to do the same today, God is still calling us to tread on uncharted waters, to a place where we’ve never been before. We must begin by taking the step of following God’s Word as a guide to discover God’s Will.
We have 3 primary resources: the Word (Ps 119:105; 2Tim 3:14-17), the Holy Ghost (Jn 14:26; 1Jn 2:20,27) and the “mind of Christ” (1Cor 2:15-16).
God has promised that he will instruct us (Ps 32:8), has plans for us (Jer 11:29) , but we must choose to follow.

Ive heard people ask why cant I be as close to God ad I was during that other situation. This scripture clears this up God might feel like hes a little bit further away, but its because you havent been down this road before theres somethings hes taking care if before you get there. If he seems far away its because hes opening a road.for you

16That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

*Is there anything that is impossible with our God? They walked by faith and not by sight.

    ***Key to Victory***

Follow the ark of the Covenant (The Word of God) that is spoken by your leader(our pastor) and God will make a way where there doesn’t seem to be a way.

  5. FOLLOW THE LEADER

3 And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

Leadership is imperative to any and every situation and circumstance. This same principal applies today to our lives “FOLLOW THOSE THAT FOLLOW GOD”.

Stay close to your Pastor as he stays close to GOD.

  6. STAND IN YOUR OBSTACLE

8 And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.

Intimidation is the devils favorite snack; it provokes people to do things they normally would not do or it keeps them from doing things we know to do.

The Jordan river was the only thing keeping Israel out of Canaan and the WORD was to stand still in it. Do not run from it, face it and watch GOD work.

  7. 13And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the LORD of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.

  8. V5 NIV Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”

There is a separation that the child of God must do in order to receive from Him. How many “amazing things” is He ready to do for us if only we will clear our minds of the things of this world and seek His presence.

  9. The scripture that comes to my mind while reading today’s blog is:

    Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

He did extraordinary things through Moses, a willing vessel. Now He is proving Himself no respect of persons to Joshua, and showing the people that He has ordained Joshua the leader, and that he has the same abilities to be lead by God as Moses did.

Likewise, God will do the same extraordinary things through anyone who is willing to build the daily relationship with Him and give ear to His spirit speaking on a continual basis.

His word declares He has given us power to do greater things than even He, God did while in the flesh. We have that power, we just have to tap into it, stay humble and be sensitive.

  10. (NIV) 7 And the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.

    – -I pray that God will shine through me so that everywhere I go people will see him through me!

  11. Joshua 3:10 KJV And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

-God will protect you from everything that. Bites…..

  12. Isarels faith needs strengthening and God provides a sighn. Joshua tells Isarale that when the priest carry the ark of God into the Jordan River then in flood stage its waters will dry up.This miracle happens and the river on to dry ground. A conifdent Isarel and the Canaanites are about to meet in the Conquest first battel each aware that God is with Israel.

  13. 17And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.

I think this is an incredible scripture for those in leadership in our church. If we don’t stand firm in the middle of the trials, how many people could be washed away, including ourselves, if our faith waivers? In verse 5, Joshua tells them to get ready, so don’t take it lightly. God has given us the keys to the city of Ft. Worth, so we’d be foolish to waver and get washed away in a sea of souls. Let’s stand firm and reach this city!

  14. 7 -8 God said to Joshua, “This very day I will begin to make you great in the eyes of all Israel. They’ll see for themselves that I’m with you in the same way that I was with Moses. You will command the priests who are carrying the Chest of the Covenant: ‘When you come to the edge of the Jordan’s waters, stand there on the river bank.'” Msg

    ***Proper Procedure***

3And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

4Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto itZ

*Joshua gave the command of God along with the proper order.

***we risk death if we fail to listen to the man of God.***

    EXAMPLE of improper Procedure

2 Samuel 6:6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.ss7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

    ***The Reward of Obedience***

Because of their obedience a mighty miracle took place

17And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.

    ***OLD TESTAMENT EXAMPLE***
7And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

    ***NEW TESTAMENT EXAMPLE***

(1Co 2:1) And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

(1Co 2:2) For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

(1Co 2:3) And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

(1Co 2:4) And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

(1Co 2:5) That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

***ipray God would manifest and demonstrate great POWER through our pastor.***

  17. Make room for your miracle

5 Then Joshua addressed the people: “Sanctify yourselves. Tomorrow GOD will work miracle-wonders among you.” MSG

  18. V2, 5 Waiting today, wonders tomorrow. Sometimes you have to get right up next to your promise and wait before God takes you to the brink and lets you step in to begin moving forward. V7 Divine delay is a blessing, stay in step with the man of God and you’ll be positioned for the wonders of tomorrow and seeing the promises of God come to pass.

  19. vs 5. we must make ourselves ready before the Lord. He is about to send souls to this church and we must be pure before him before we will be able to help the lost of Fort Worth.

  20. V.5 And Joshua said unto the people SANCTIFY yourselves: for tomorrow the Lord will do Wonders among you. Preparing for OUR (family) Miracles!!!!! Step back and watch!!!! We’re passing over!!!

  21. 13 And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap. All crossed with dry feet.

  22. 5And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.

We did sanctify ourselves and provided evidence to Him and now we will hear of the many wonders that He has already done and will hear of those he is yet doing in our midst! As I looked around the church during prayer, I tried to add up the many testimonies that would be coming forth from this service!
LORD, we give You the praise and the glory for each miracle, each wonder, and each soul touched because of Your word!

iTestify! God has heard and answered our petitions and no matter what people say, I know my God is able to heal, to deliver and to save to the uttermost! I praise you Jesus!

  23. Once again the lord parts the waters and leads his people. But first the priest had to step out in obedience and step into the waters. As a kingdom of priest we need to step into the waters of eternal life!!!

  24. This chapter reminds me that we have to always be ready because our answer, our miracle may be coming in the morning. God is on our side and he will clear the path, clear the obstacle to reach the place he wants us to be.

  25. 15And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

Once again God parted the waters for the Israealites. Against overwhelming odds for man, God shows His might by parting waters until all had passed clean over. God did the same miracle as with Moses, He just took a new approach to accomplish it.

God is still doing that today. He continually confounds the enemy by allowing His people to make it through seemingly impassible/ impossible situations….

  26. If these people had any doubt about GOD’s power and strength they should have seen that HE was able to stop the water of the Jordan river and allow the people to pass through on dry ground. This was the second time that these people had GOD’s power move across the waters for them as a people. WOW

  27. This chapter illustrates power and authority. God showed his power and authority over the river Jordan for the children of Israel to cross over. God has and will continue to show his power and authority in our lives if we will listen and obey as they did. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen
