Joshua Chapter 6

Joshua 6

1Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

2And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

3And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

4And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

5And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

6And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD.

7And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.

8And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.

9And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.

10And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

11So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

12And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.

13And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.

14And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.

15And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.

16And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

17And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

18And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

19But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.

20So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

21And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

22But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.

23And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.

24And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.

25And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

26And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

27So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.

  1. The power of your voice:

GOD told the people what to do. They were to go around the city with no voices until the seventh day. On the seventh day they shouted and the walls came down. Think of all the times we have been in the prayer room, in worship, or praying for someone. There are walls all around us, everywhere. Some of the walls are ones that we build and some of the walls are built by others. When GOD gives us instructions to bring down the walls, it can be done in an instant with the sound of your voice.

    Let your voice be heard!

(Jos 6:10) And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

oh boy, it must have been hard to keep this order. Can you imagine, the Pastor tells us to keep our mouth shut all week long…”neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth”…

    ***We would be in trouble.

Why is it so hard to be obedient? I think it is because we have lost the Fear of the Lord.

Kinda like a child who does not fear his parents…What brings back that fear??? Good old fashion whoopen.

Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

***It was a matter of life and death.
The Lord knew that the murmering and complaining would destroy the Children of Israel and they would be consumed by the enemy.

We need to take heed…LETS KEEP OUR MOUTHS SHUT (from evil speaking) SO THE WALLS OF FORT WORTH WILL FALL DOWN AND WE CAN WIN THIS CITY.

  3. Wise Investment

Vs 25 So Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute and her relatives who were with her in the house, because she had hidden the spies Joshua sent to Jericho. And she lives among the Israelites to this day. NLT

Rahab’s decision of hiding the spies was the salvation for her and her whole family. Our personal decisions not only involves us/individual but all our family and all who are connect to the us/individual.

Gen 12:3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you. NLT

  4. V.22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that he had said to spy out the country, go into the harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman. And all that she hath, as ye sware unto her. V.23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her bretheren, and all that she had; and they brought out all of her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel. Oh yes….Salvation has come!!! Thanking God for His word that is true and His Grace for!! Blessed I am.

  5. The city of Jericho is set on a hill about 30ft high, and it’s walls are a monstrous structure. To the approaching army of Israel it looks like an impenetrable fortress. To the people of Jericho, it is absolute assurance that no army can ever invade the security of their city..they are wrong. This serves as a great reminder to the Israelites not to put their security in carnal walls, chariots, horses, or kings…anything that isn’t the Lord. For pride, and trusting in them will surely fail Israel ..like say the fall of Babylon.

Ob 1:3″The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’4 Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.NIV

Pr 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Archeological evidence of Joshua’s conquest of Jericho is scant, likely because of fact it was so thoroughly destroyed at this time and then was subject to 5 centuries of erosion. There is a pronounced curse on the man who would rebuild Jericho vs26, and in violation to the city’s destruction remaining an ongoing testimony of God’s judgment on the Canaanites and provision of Israel was fulfilled in the days of king Ahab (1Ki 16:34). The story of how God used Joshua and the city of Jericho is a reminder of the utter holiness of God, the supreme power of God and the reality that no obstacle is too big to stand in the way when God is at work.

  6. v.25 the geace of GOD not only made proviston for her (Rahab) but also olevated her to a place in the ancestry of David and ultimately of the Lord Jesus Christ (matt, 1:5,6). Grace not onyt savs us from destruction but also exaltation (rom, 8:29,30). Faith is the hand that takes hold of grace.

  7. In this scripture, it is very clear just as Pastor has indicated several occasions of the importance of Praise, Loud Voice, let the walls fall down, and then guess what, not only victory, but we get to gather goods again, to the treasury of the Lord, Amen….Now, I wonder why I very loudly proclaim Halleluja (Highest Praise).

But, you know it might take us awhile, like possibly 7 times to get some of those walls to fall, besides what could it hurt to give him additional praise with all that he has done for us….AMEN. I’m blowing my trumpet too! You just might save the Harlot after all and her family how many?

  8. I have seen a lot of walls that people built in their lives crumble before God, I am thankful that the day my walls came down there was someone there to come in & show me the Truth of the Word of God & the Holy Ghost. I pray for labourers to be ready for when the walls of Ft. Worth falls, to be ready the rip the harvest promised by God. The walls built by man don’t stand a chance in His Presence. Go, March, share the sound everywhere you go and with everyone you know. BE CHURCH

  9. An Expensive City

26 Joshua swore a solemn oath at that time: Cursed before God is the man who sets out to rebuild this city Jericho. He’ll pay for the foundation with his firstborn son, he’ll pay for the gates with his youngest son.

God gave this city to Israel and they destroyed the city with a loud shout, by the obedience to Joshua and his obedience to the Lord. This was a great victory for the children of Israel. All of the things in the city was accursed the Lord commanded them not to take anything out of the city… it was a COMMAND! Everything was destroyed by the sword, what a bloody battle; then it was burned down. This was serious, I’m sure Rahab walking out of her house seeing the blood stained soil was glad that she had hid the messengers and that the Lord was merciful to her and her household.

After all of this Joshua make a very serious declaration to anyone that would try to rebuild this city… it would come with a great price, a very expensive payment to rebuild this God-destroyed city. The life of the firstborn for the foundation and the life of the youngest for the gates.

When God destroyed walls in your life and you break through with a loud shout of praise let those broken walls stay down and don’t rebuild the city!!! It’s too expensive to keep rebuilding the same walls that God has been destroying in your life.

  10. PRESSING FOR A BREAKTHROUGH

15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.
16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

The miracle of a “Breakdown for a Breakthrough” is testified here. For 6 days the people were focused on obedience, going through the routine of going around the city. Then on the 7th Day:
    the Sabbath (Sunday)
    they Marched 7 times (Sacrificed)
blew the Trumpets, they gave a signal (Praise)
    they all Shouted (Testified)

This gives us an example of how to PRESS FOR A BREAKTHROUGH every week. Commit today to give Sunday our best sacrifice, our loudest praise, and our continual testimony!

  11. 1. Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

Isn’t it great to serve a God who can make your enemies “shut up”!

“Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy…”
    Micah 7:8

  12. Now it’s all Joahuas responsability .He needs to listen carefully what God has to say.-at first he was Moses helper now it’s all him just like Moses did,now is his turn.
    Joshua 6.3,4,5.–
March around the city once with all the armed men.do this for six days .4 have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark on the seventh day ,march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets .5,when you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets have all the people give a loud shout;then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up,every man straight in
—Do everything that God ask us to do make sense ?not always…. But I do want shout as loud as I can, because when we shout things happen in the atmosphere…….
    6:12
    Joshua got up early…..
    6:15
On the seventh day, the got up at daybreak ….(al disputar el alba) “real early”…..
There is something about taking action (early )in the morning…..
    //////////FAITH///////////obidience…….
    6:23
So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father, and mother and brothers and all who belonged to her.they brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside…..
    SALVATION !!!!!!!! It took faith,obidience …..
Oh GOD have mercy………..in Jesus name…….

  13. 20So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

There is power in the shout! The unity was very evident in this chapter. They people were instructed, they obeyed and they were given victory over the city. Many times we are instructed, but the challenge comes to our lives in the obedience. If we can put aside our thoughts, our desires and even our wishes and submit to what the Lord is telling us through His Word/His Leaders, the entire body become unified, we will be given the dominion and authority of the Region of Fort Worth.

  14. v18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

There is a difference when a preacher speaks and when GOD speaks.
When our Pastor preaches the Word OF GOD
It comes strong because of the anointing of the HOLY GHOST and the POWER OF GOD.
It be wise to listen and obey
Disobedience will bring much pain not only to yourself, but also to your family and all those around you that care and love.

    • Sorry left out the word you on the last sentence.
The LORD is so good that HE gives us warnings through HIs Word and HIS servants

  15. V7 And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.

This tells me to put on the whole armour of GOD. There’s a holy war. We are fixing to march for JESUS and take this city.
OUR PRAISE IS DANGEROUS AND DEADLY TO OUR ENEMIES!

“Angel of the Lord” part 3

2And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

3And ye shall compass the city

    ***The Visible***

With the physical eyes the people of Jericho could see the Children of Israel surrounding the city.

    ***The Invisible***

The Captain of the Lord’s Host was there with his sword drawn. Do you think he came alone? Let’s compare this situation with another one from the WORD.

2Kings6:16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

    ***The REAL Unseen Army***

The people of Jericho were already shaking in their boots…But can you imagine if their eyes would have opened and they would have seen the Captain of the Lords Host with all the warrior angels he had with him???

***We should REFUSE to FEAR anything…for God is with us.

  17. You can’t win the battle unless God orchestrates the war.

You have to hearken unto the voice of for his direction in all your battles big or small.

  18. Verse 20 in the MSG reads….”The priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the blast of the trumpets, they gave a thunderclap shout. The wall fell at once. The people rushed straight into the city and took it.” It happened just as God said it would because Joshua and the People of Israel were obedient. God can tear down any wall that is keeping you from your blessing, just don’t loose your shout!

  19. v23 So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother and brothers and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel.
V25—–And she lives among the Israelites to this day.

    THE GENEOLOGY OF OUR LORD

Matthew 1v5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was RAHAB.

Look at what God can do with a committed, faithful life.
It makes no difference what we were before we came to God only what we become after we “know Him.”

  20. ILLUSTRATION
The rugged walls of Jericho featured a stone base 11 feet hightopped by 35 feet of smooth stone sloping upwards at 35 degrees to join the towiring main walls.Direct assult would have been nearly impossible and a protected siege would have permitted the other Canaanite tribes to mobilize and attach Israel. Gods intervention which toppled the walls made that strateically victory possible.

  21. i just thank God for his favor, i know sometimes it may not look like its on me but it is. God could had left me in that mess that i put myself in but He didnt , instead He gave me a promise that will even outlive me, because it is for my kids grandkids and so on to live for the Lord with your whole heart. now i dont know if this is what i was suppose to get out of this reading but this is what’s on my heart. love you POFW and thank you for inviting me and my family to be apart of the great work that is being done for the Kingdom.

  22. Who needs weapons when you have a voice? God will fight our battles if we will just keep praising! Praise him in advance for victory. Although you may feel silly at times because you are praising for something that is not yet to come, keep praising and God will show you all his might!

  23. 16And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

  24. The Blessings for Obedience.

10And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

The outcome of this story might have been different if the people did not obey the man of God. What would of happened? I have prayed in past time about things in my life. Some of them God has given me a direct path to follow ,while others He has not. What would happen if I would just do my own thing ,and not seek, ask, get direction from leaders,Pastor, and above all God? There are blessings that come from obeying your authority in your life.

  25. I bet none of us could keep quiet for 6 days before the Lord. When the priest played the instrument you could close your mind of other thoughts without distraction and dwell on His great power!! After 6 days of quiet the Holy Spirit had built up so much momentum They ” EXPLODED” with power. Has our continual shoutng become mechanical and powerless? Let Science try to disprove this miracle!!

    “The Revelation”

The things that happened in the Old Testament were “types and shadows” of the things that were to come.

    EXAMPLES

*MANNA / was a type of the WORD
*BLOOD OF LAMBS/ type and shadow of THE LAMB OF GOD

**************This scripture I believe is a type and shadow of THE COMING OF THE LORD.

Notice this verse…10And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

    JOSHUA WANTED SILENCE

Compare that scripture to this one…

Revelation 8:1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.

So, there was silence right before the trumpets

*What happens when the last trumpet sounds?

(1Th 4:16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Matthew 25:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

    THAT WAS THE LAST TRUMP

52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

  28. When we shout, we do it with authority because God is on our side. If We would just realize the power that we have when we open our mouth, we could really wreck havoc upon the enemy. There is power in your voice when you’re filled with the Holy Ghost.

  29. Their victory came because they were unified, obedient, and determined. It’s amazing how a simple should became a deadly weapon because of a awesome God.

  30. the story of joshua and and jericho shows the power of faith and obedience to do exactly what God tells you to do joshua’s obedience gave him and the people of israel a great victory that day.

  31. V1 “Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.”

It’s amazing how the enemy can be on the ropes right from when we step on the scene. Some things may look impossible at first glance when really the victory is only as far away as simple obedience.

  32. 18And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

I must keep sin out of my house, for it does not only effect me..

  33. verse 9: MSG. Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, Your God, is with you every step you take.” God has given us everything we need to win Just eat the book.

  34. Yesterday was such a hectic day that I didnt get the chance to post, but I did read the chapter, as the day went on I began to think, what was going through the minds of the people of Jerico as the Hebrews marched around there city, this is what came to me.

day 1 = they are looking for weakness in our walls
day 2 = thank God we fixed that hole in the wall
day 3 = did we miss fixing a part of the wall
day 4 = man these people must really be bored
day 5 = not bored maybe crazy
day 6 = they are wearing on my patience
day 7 = well that was lap number 6 I guess nothing is going to happen

    consistancy makes the enemy unprepared

  35. This chapter illustrates Power. The children of Israel witnessed firsthand that the power, which came from God was in their shout. This is why we must; shout blessings unto the Lord for the walls that may be hindering us or another’s way. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen
