Joshua 18

1And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them.

2And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.

3And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

4Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.

5And they shall divide it into seven parts: Judah shall abide in their coast on the south, and the house of Joseph shall abide in their coasts on the north.

6Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God.

7But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and Gad, and Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave them.

8And the men arose, and went away: and Joshua charged them that went to describe the land, saying, Go and walk through the land, and describe it, and come again to me, that I may here cast lots for you before the LORD in Shiloh.

9And the men went and passed through the land, and described it by cities into seven parts in a book, and came again to Joshua to the host at Shiloh.

10And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD: and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.

11And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families: and the coast of their lot came forth between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.

12And their border on the north side was from Jordan; and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north side, and went up through the mountains westward; and the goings out thereof were at the wilderness of Bethaven.

13And the border went over from thence toward Luz, to the side of Luz, which is Bethel, southward; and the border descended to Atarothadar, near the hill that lieth on the south side of the nether Bethhoron.

14And the border was drawn thence, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that lieth before Bethhoron southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjathjearim, a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter.

15And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjathjearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah:

16And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to Enrogel,

17And was drawn from the north, and went forth to Enshemesh, and went forth toward Geliloth, which is over against the going up of Adummim, and descended to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben,

18And passed along toward the side over against Arabah northward, and went down unto Arabah:

19And the border passed along to the side of Bethhoglah northward: and the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the salt sea at the south end of Jordan: this was the south coast.

20And Jordan was the border of it on the east side. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, by the coasts thereof round about, according to their families.

21Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, and Bethhoglah, and the valley of Keziz,

22And Betharabah, and Zemaraim, and Bethel,

23And Avim, and Pharah, and Ophrah,

24And Chepharhaammonai, and Ophni, and Gaba; twelve cities with their villages:

25Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,

26And Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah,

27And Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah,

28And Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi, which is Jerusalem, Gibeath, and Kirjath; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.

  1. Territory pitched at Shiloh and the Lots cast there. The Israelites chose an abandoned Middle Bronze Age town site in Ephraim because of the central location with respect to all the tribes (Seilun, ten miles north-northeast of Bethel, eleven miles south of Shechem ).The tabernacle served as the nucleus of Israel’s amphictyonic organization before the nation desired to have a kingdom.

  2. So Joshua asked the people in verse 3.”what is the holdup?’ What are you waitng for? God already gave you the land as an inheritance. It is yours! all you got to do is take it!!.I am sure the people responded,”But”.people live there? Yes people live there! So do livestock and vineyards.Chariots and soldiers! But where is the promise? Where is the inheritance? The promise and provision lies with us, because “GOD IS ON OUR SIDE” He is the one who said this is your and as an inheritance!! So Joshua divided the land so it would be easier to conquer. Each tribe was given a portion and a responsibility.God has given us a promise or many promises.I like to consider it a promise.A special bundle offer from God.All we have to do is”Divide and Conquer!” Lets take this city!

3And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

***Our pastor has told us to go possess the land of Fort Worth, its not Gods fault if we refuse to “take the city by force…”

Our Pastor has done as much as he can by himself… he needs someone to catch and buy into the vision God has for this city.

    SLACK H7503
    רפה
    râphâh
    raw-faw’
A primitive root; to slacken (in many applications, literally or figuratively): – abate, cease, consume, draw [toward evening], fail, (be) faint, be (wax) feeble, forsake, idle, leave, let alone (go, down), (be) slack, stay, be still, be slothful, (be) weak (-en). See H7495.

    “OH YE SLOTHFUL SERVANT”

I use to be slothful with the blog, but one day God used our pastor to do as Joshua did…Challenge Me.

When you are challenged by the man of God, you will do one of the following things…Get offended or get changed.

    (Proverbs 24:30 KJV) I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

(Proverbs 24:31 KJV) And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

(Proverbs 24:32 KJV) Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

(Proverbs 24:33 KJV) Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

(Proverbs 24:34 KJV) So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

WHAT ARE THESE THORNS IN THE SLOTHFUL’S VINEYARD???

(Luke 8:14 KJV) And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

It takes WORK to get the victory in your own life…
It takes WORK to win this city…
It takes a PASTOR to challenge us to do it…

    iWORK…
so that when the Trumpet blows, we will be able to say…
    iREST

  4. The people had not done what it took to possess the land. Joshua, their leader had to encourage, inspire and even command or “push” them into action. Sometimes we need a push to go the next set. Praise God for a leader that will keep us moving toward possessing the land and ultimately that heavenly reward.

  5. in verse one they build a church and they were happy many people are happy with there wall with God just go to church and doing nothing else thinking thats all that matters everything is good BUT we have to take the next step iwork and possess the land BUT it doesnt stop there we have to keep on steppen in our wall with GOD if we ever stop steppen thats when we fall . dont be a istop person !!!!!!!

  6. Joshua asked the question how long you going to sit there and say and think I wish I had that I wish I wish but God already gave them there land they just had to go get it. Joshua was saying GET AND GO GET IT!! The same is for us God has gave us promises and is waiting on us to get up and get it.

  7. GET UP AND GO GET IT

3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

It is interesting the amount of diverse people that are found in this unique family of Israel. We have read about some that wanted more than they were granted, we have read about some who let nothing stop them to possess the land promised them, we have read about others that would let anything stop them. Now we read about another group who is lazy.

I suppose that this could describe the breakdown of every church. This group had to be challenged, pushed to do something. Joshua described them as :

SLACK – 1) to sink, relax, sink down, let drop, be disheartened.

The MSG describes it like this: 3 Joshua addressed the People of Israel: “How long are you going to sit around on your hands, putting off taking possession of the land that God, the God of your ancestors, has given you?

It appears that they lacked the drive or “Passion to Possess” the land that had been given them.

iPray for Passion to Possess Fort Worth

  8. 3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

The word slack has various meaning & various uses, let it be as an adjective, noun, or verb; but they don’t differ in meaning that still the same.

a : characterized by slowness, sluggishness, or lack of energy
: lacking in completeness, finish, or perfection
: not using due diligence, care, or dispatch : negligent

In little words our procrastination could be considered in God’s eyes as SLACK, God want immediate obedience without hesitation or doubt. He say’s it, you do it; simple enough don’t wait, don’t worry, don’t doubt, DON’T SLACK; just do it. Go take Ft. Worth, go posses the Land, Impact one person at a time but do it, now!

  9. Go get the City!

The harvest that is our shared vision with our Pastor is just waiting on us to get serious about winning the city.

    Gen 19:15
And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

We have to be as angels going to deliver Lot out of Sodom. The people of Fort Worth are depending on us to reach them in time. Their eternity depends on it. Our inheritance lies in the taking back the city of Fort Worth. Our lack of drive has kept us from doing what God has promised us. Why do we struggle to get people to show up for outreach when we have read that our city will perish? It’s serious, if we don’t do this they will die and we will be accountable for it because it is our promised land. Does this mean that none of us really care? Are our circumstances and what we have to do more important than the souls in Fort Worth? Do we care that our neighbor goes to hell while we rest in eternity with God?

3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

We need to slack no longer. I’m ready to cease the city that God has given us!

    iWork

  10. Remembering what Pastor Watts preached last night. The children of Isreal or the church assembled them selves together, and there were 7 tribes. How many? 7
we all have promises or inheritance that God has given us we must go one more time to see the land/rain.

  11. 3.-And Joshua said unto the children if Israel, how long are ye slack to go posses the land which the Lord your God of your fathers hath given you?
Are we asleep in our spiritual walk?
Many we’re just taking naps here and there,(slacking )
GOD has already given us the Victory over everything……but we need to do our part,(not that God needs our help)but we need to ”
“get up”and posses what Jesus already kdhd for: (thank you Jesus)
Sometimes we missed it,we do not receive what is already ours, for the lack of determination ,laziness ,fear, dour:(is this for me?)……
I’m gonna go for it,IN JESUS NAME.
Thank you Holy God for mercy……

    • It’s. Time to fight the good fight of fath ,”if” we have forgot about it.
      “By force” we have to….
AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE ,we will serve the LORD……
Sometimes we want to receive from God victories that we have already received the
      Past,is that possible.? Yes!
Let’s remember everything God has done for us in the past today, and be ready to go posses what is next yet to come……..

  12. We do not need to be slack concerning God’s promises, just make an effort to go out and get them.Do not be lazy and think God is going to hand it over to you.The things we have to work for,we have a greater apprecation
    for…iwork…ipossess

  13. Seven of the tribes had not yet been assigned their land. They gathered at Shiloh, where Joshua cast lots to determine which areas would be given to them. By this time, the Canaanites were, in most places, so weakened that they were no longer a threat. Instead of fulfilling God’s command to destroy the remaining Canaanites, however, these seven tribes would often take the path of least resistance. As nomadic people, they may have been reluctant to settle down, preferring to depend economically on the people they were supposed to eliminate. Others may have feared the high cost of continued warfare. Trading for goods was easier and more profitable than destroying the suppliers and having to provide for themselves.

  14. The inheritance was there but they have to go claim for it!
Same is for us,God made us free, safe and healed but we have to claim for it,we have to come and possess it. Thank you Jesus!

  15. 3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

The word of God speaks for it’s self.

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. (Proverbs 10:4 KJV)

  17. v18 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD GOD of your fathers hath given you?

The church is told to GO, and be on the offense reach in the fire and pull a soul
Jude v23 And others save with fear pulling them out of the fire: hating even the garment spotted by the flesh
We ( i ) the church is encouraged to be a strong spiritual and healthy mother to give birth to healthy children.
What have we to fear. GOD has given us HIS Power and Authority
We have HIS Name , HIS Spirit, and HIS Blood still works!
Like our dear Pastor said last,”GOD IS UP TO SOMETHING ” HE wants to use us in a special way for HIS Kingdom.

  18. 8And the men arose, and went away: and Joshua charged them that went to describe the land, saying, Go and walk through the land, and describe it, and come again to me, that I may here cast lots for you before the LORD in Shiloh.

Doesn’t this sound just like what Moses asked him, Caleb, and the other 10 men about checking out the land of Canaan. For the 1st time, a specific location becomes the place of worship for the nation of Israel. Now that they are settled in the land, Shiloh, a town in the territory of Ephraim, becomes the central place for worship where the Tent of Meeting is set up.
When people think of Israelite worship, many think of Jerusalem. However, for many years Shiloh is the primary gathering place for God’s people.

When they gather here, they are “in the pressence of the Lord” (Jos 18:8; 19:51) . Through the time of the judges and several of the kings, Shiloh is the place of worship. Unfortunately, Shiloh is not always the primary location for worship, since the Israelites at the times ignore it in favor of the local high places check out 1 Ki 14:23. The priest Eli ministers before the Lord in Shiloh, and Sameul grows up and begins his prophetic ministry here. Cool history that sometimes gets overlooked is the kind that we need to remember the most.

  19. I Pray that God will pull us into our work that he has called us to do. Being lazy and not helping for the mark is not good. There’s always something for us to do to help.showing love and kindness

  20. How long will you sat on the promise of God. He has already given it to you, what are you waiting on? I love this message because it not only speaks about the boarders of the land, which to me is the biarders of God but it also tells us that we shouldnt just sat around but go get what is promised to us which is salvation and the liberty to worship n praise God. We are to also share the word of God with whoever will listen. I am once again amazed at what God alloqed me to understand while rwading His word

  21. (NKJV) 3 Then Joshua said to the children of Israel: “How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?

    — We can’t have that mentality of “oh, we can tell people about Jesus when i have time or when im not so tired or when i feel like it” we need to tell people about Jesus everywhere we go.

  22. 3And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?
-some people are scared or just dont want to recieve the blessing that God has givin you:)

  23. It is easy to get in a contented state of mind with a measure of victory like what happened with the children of Israel. And we too need a push to get up and get going so we can “possess” the land that God has given this church! I’m thankful for a Pastor who can give a push in the right direction!

  24. In the center of Judah is Simeon. Dan and Benjamin border it on the north. In other words, in the center of Praise is Hearing. Judgment and Son of the right hand border it on the north.

We must be praisers, but in the center, or the heart of our lives must be the WORD of God. The fear of the Lord must be at the head of our minds. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Psalm 111:10

Right next to the fear of the LORD is relationship. Jesus Christ is sat down at the right hand of the Father. Acts 2:33

We are the children of God. 1 John 3:10

This means we are the sons and daughters of the right hand!

Notice that Judah is positioned south of all the tribes. This is the foundation!

  25. Vs. 3 & 4, ” And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you? Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.”

The first thing that came to my mind when I read verse 3, was the spirit of laziness. How long are we going to let the souls of Fort Worth fall by the wayside because of our lazy spirit and our lack of vision and burden. We need to get rid of this spirit of laziness and get a vision and burden for the souls of Fort Worth and go possess the City in which God has intrusted to us.

Secondly, verse 4 caught my attention. Out of all of the men of the 12 tribes of Israel, only 3 men from each tribe went. This made me think how few labourers there are in the fields for a city that is already ripe for harvesting. Luke 10:2 says, ” Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” Perhaps this should be our prayer “Lord send us Labourers.”

  26. This chapter illustrates a want to. iWork; “And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?” Where would we (I) be if the person that led us (me) to Christ acted like we (I) do? We (I) should thank God for a Pastor and leadership that pushes us (me) to do more for Jesus and to be more for Jesus. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  27. Leaving your promise to chance

7 tribes did not claim their promise, they sat around and chance ended up giving them something. It reminds me of the other day when Pastor asked Timothy what kind of job do you want.
These tribes sat their, they couldnt complain later that thier portion didn’t have enough defenses, fertile land or water, why? because they left it to chance and did not go out and claim it. When God promises you a car. It is you who determines if you get an old one with high mileage or a brand new one with a 10 year warranty. When God promises you a blessing, it is you who determines your blessing. Is he going to give you a different job, or the job you want? Is he going to give you a new house, or the house you want. It is all in how you handle it.
their were 5 tribes that got the land they wanted, and 7 that got what was given to them

  28. 2And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.

WE have not received our promise YET!

  29. 2And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.

Seven tribes haven’t received their inheritance. SEVEN is a reminder of completion. God is up to something with POFW, Lord thave your way with the city of Fort Worth .

I’m ready for the inheritance you have in store. What an awesome God you are Lord of Lord, King of Kings.

And the land was subdued before them.

It was quite interesting that todays Proverb goes along with this scripture.

    ***Today’s Proverbs***

(Proverbs 12:11 KJV) He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

***First of all, a lazy man is not going to till his land. With that being said, lets dive in deeper.

    *Tilleth H5647
    עבד
    ‛âbad
    aw-bad’
A primitive root; to work (in any sense); by implication to serve, till, (causatively) enslave, etc.: – X be, keep in bondage, be bondmen, bond-service, compel, do, dress, ear, execute, + husbandman, keep, labour (-ing man), bring to pass, (cause to, make to) serve (-ing, self), (be, become) servant (-s), do (use) service, till (-er), transgress [from margin], (set a) work, be wrought, worshipper.

to till is to work…but it’s more than just working…It is enslaving…ENSLAVING WHAT???

The Land. By your “WORK” the land is forced to serve you…

WE BRING THE LAND INTO SUBJECTION BY FORCE…

If we dont bring the land into subjection, what do we get???

    THORNS, WEEDS, BARRENESS, AND HUNGER.

Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

***What Did Paul say about tilling his land***
(1 Corinthians 9:27 KJV) But I “keep under” my body, and bring it into “subjection”: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Lets break down what Paul was saying in the context of this study.

    “keep under”G5299
    ὑπωπιάζω
    hupōpiazō
    hoop-o-pee-ad’-zo
From a compound of G5259 and a derivative of G3700; to hit under the eye (buffet or disable an antagonist as a pugilist), that is, (figuratively) to tease or annoy (into compliance), subdue (one’s passions): – keep under, weary.

subdue (one’s passions). REVELATION…our body is the land…(ashes to ashes dust to dust)

    subjection G1396
    δουλαγωγέω
    doulagōgeō
    doo-lag-ogue-eh’-o
From a presumed compound of G1401 and G71; to be a slave driver, that is, to enslave (figuratively subdue): – bring into subjection.

    ***CONCLUSION***

WE HAVE TO SUBDUE OUR LAND AND KICK DOWN EVERY IMAGINATION THAT EXHALTS ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD.

  31. 4. Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.

There were 3 men of 7 tribes who were sent out together. I imagine the 21 men stayed together instead of splitting apart to walk the land, it mentions a few verses later that they described it in a book so they would need to be together mostly to put it all in the same book. This group required teamwork and unity, the whole of 7 tribes was relying on them to do this job and return so that they could move forward. Had the men decided for whatever reason to not do their part the progress of israel would be halted until someone took action. We can look at this like ministry, the man of God appoints a job and if it is done the church can move forward but if not it can cause a standstill.

Another thing is these men had to work together and keep everyone else in mind aside from themselves. They were from different tribes and each probably wanted the best for their family but the man of God had them work together so they could not focus on self. They had to look at the land and split it up fairly so that no family would be unfairly shorted. A wise move on the pastors part. Sometimes we do not know why we have to work with people as a team, im sure a few of the men could have done it just as well, but we do not always see the bigger picture. Others may be different in opinion, personality, and actions but they also have different strengths and weaknesses. We have to learn to work as a team to be effective, the church as a whole and individual ministries.

  32. The people in verse 2 were known to others. They all knew that the seven had not done what they were supposed to do. Many times we all have things we don’t want to do and others know it. The test comes when we have to either “man up” or have the question asked “what are you waiting for?” Man up, don’t wait for the question. Do what you have been instructed to do and don’t wait any longer.

  33. 1And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them.

Subdue: to conquer and bring into subjection, to overpower by superior force,

I wonder what would happen if the “entire congregation” all those that call them part of the POFW family would assemble themselves together in one place, at one time, with one purpose ….to Subdue the Region of Fort Worth. Each community that would be represented at the congregational meeting would feel the impact of what an Apostlic Church can accomplish!

  34. In verse 3 Joshua asked them what are u waiting for God aready gave you this land! Dont sit on it… Posses it! God wants us to claim it and grab it in Jesus name!!

  35. Go Again

Sometimes our promise is sitting right in front of us but we fail to go get it. Joshua’s command to go out and see the land (again) is a wake up call. Sometimes we lose our vision and don’t recognize our promise for what it is even when it’s staring us in the face. God sometimes tells us “go again.” Go again and remember the word spoken into your life; go again and revisit that old dream, shake the dust off and make it look like new; go again so the vision can be renewed and the passion rekindled; go again so you can recognize what is right in front of you and then go possess it. Like Peter who was delivered from prison and went a ways down the road before he really realized what happened (Acts 12), sometimes we walk as if in a fog and it takes a sudden awakening for us to see what is right before our eyes.

  36. Revival Now!

Thank you Jesus for a Man of God with vision.

Shiloh = ” place of rest”

Set up – 1. to settle down, abide, dwell, tabernacle, reside

Subdued – 1. to subject, subdue, force, keep under, bring into bondage

In verse 1 the children of Israel were at a ” place of rest ” and “settling down”. While right before them was a land that was already “to be conquered”.

John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

POFW LOOK AT FORT WORTH IT’S READY TO BE CONQUERED! And just like Aaron’s rod it can happen over night!

Numbers 17: 8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

  37. V.3 And Joshua said until the children of Israel, how long are ye(me) slack to go to possessed the land, which the Lord God of your father’s has given you.

  38. 2And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.

God has an inheritance for his children. We don’t have to worry about lacking anything God, because he is our provider.

  39.
