Joshua 21

1Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel;

2And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.

3And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs.

4And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

5And the rest of the children of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities.

6And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

7The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

8And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.

9And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name.

10Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot.

11And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.

12But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

13Thus they gave to the children of Aaron the priest Hebron with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Libnah with her suburbs,

14And Jattir with her suburbs, and Eshtemoa with her suburbs,

15And Holon with her suburbs, and Debir with her suburbs,

16And Ain with her suburbs, and Juttah with her suburbs, and Bethshemesh with her suburbs; nine cities out of those two tribes.

17And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with her suburbs, Geba with her suburbs,

18Anathoth with her suburbs, and Almon with her suburbs; four cities.

19All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

20And the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites which remained of the children of Kohath, even they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim.

21For they gave them Shechem with her suburbs in mount Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Gezer with her suburbs,

22And Kibzaim with her suburbs, and Bethhoron with her suburbs; four cities.

23And out of the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh with her suburbs, Gibbethon with her suburbs,

24Aijalon with her suburbs, Gathrimmon with her suburbs; four cities.

25And out of the half tribe of Manasseh, Tanach with her suburbs, and Gathrimmon with her suburbs; two cities.

26All the cities were ten with their suburbs for the families of the children of Kohath that remained.

27And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of Manasseh they gave Golan in Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Beeshterah with her suburbs; two cities.

28And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishon with her suburbs, Dabareh with her suburbs,

29Jarmuth with her suburbs, Engannim with her suburbs; four cities.

30And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with her suburbs, Abdon with her suburbs,

31Helkath with her suburbs, and Rehob with her suburbs; four cities.

32And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Hammothdor with her suburbs, and Kartan with her suburbs; three cities.

33All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

34And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs,

35Dimnah with her suburbs, Nahalal with her suburbs; four cities.

36And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with her suburbs, and Jahazah with her suburbs,

37Kedemoth with her suburbs, and Mephaath with her suburbs; four cities.

38And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahanaim with her suburbs,

39Heshbon with her suburbs, Jazer with her suburbs; four cities in all.

40So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.

41All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.

42These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities.

43And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

44And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.

45There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

  1. Levites are alloted specific cities since their inheritance is God and not land. Spiritual and not carnal, where else could we expect for them to be entrusted than on the front lines of the cities of refuge. In these cities an accused murderer can find sanctuary and a fair trial when an avenger is pursuing them. Levites are the called ministers of the day, they teach the people, offer sacrifices and stand before the Lord on behalf of the nation. The call of God in the Levites to inhabit these cities is just another reminder of Gods intentional love for us his people and his commitment to give them more than just the land of Canaan, but helping them to build a nation. God’s faithfullness is astounding “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled” vs45 and we can know wtih confidence that God will be just as faithful today.

34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Whenever we speak the Word we are speading food out before the bound. Everlasting water is given by God uder his Godhead, whenever we bring someone to stand under the waterfall of the Godhead, they shall never thirst again. Outreaching turns a stranger into a friend. When you lift up an ashamed person to repent they are covered by the blood. When you pray for a sick person to be healed, you visit their souls need. When you shine a light on a person imprisoned in gloomy sin, they may see the light and walk into it. Much like a Levite we are called to minister to the lost and sitting in cities of refuge. iWork to save souls.

  2. The Lord is true to his word. vs 43-45 He gave Israel all that he had promised. None of their enemies stood before them. We should continue believe our promises from God. He will be true to his Word if will stay faithful to him.

  3. the bible says go out to all the lands and preach the gospel to possess the land to claim it . we the people of POFW with the man of GOD have claimed the city of fort worth and its suburbs now is the time to possess it the may be giants in the land but by GOD all things are possable .i never thought i would be wrighting a blog because my spelling isnt the best but thought GOD all thing are possable

  4. God’s promises don’t come VOID they come with faithfulness, like He did for Joshua.
IPRAY for myself to stay on the right path for my promises to be revealed to me.

  5. The Promise Was Delivered!

And the Lord gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.44 And the Lord gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand.45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

    Brother Morgan look at this:

And the Lord gave them rest round about

The children of Israel were able to rest after the lord had delivered his promise. It looks like we are working to no end right now, but as Pastor has shared with me, and I truly believe , and it is represented in this scripture, the Lord will honor our labor. When we start to fulfill the vision of our Pastor, our promise, the Lord will honor all the labor that was given, and give us rest. As we have seen in these scriptures, it took tremendous amount of labor to get to the promise land. I encourage all of us to keep on going because our promise lay ahead. Keep working and let the word infiltrate us and provoke us to righteous work.

In these past few chapters I have not seen the Lord in judgement mode, only blessing mode. This tells me that Israel was doing righteous work for God and it pleased him. If they were still being hard headed and presenting God with rebelliousness, the blessing wouldn’t have been delivered. The Lord will not let us rest until he has been satisfied. I pray every morning that my work will please God. i pray that my worship and praise will please God. I pray that my life will please God.

and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand.

Their warring was complete. The Lord had delivered all their enemies into their hand. That says that there was no more fighting left to do.

    Jude 1:4
For there are certain men crept in unawares,
Most of the time in our day our enemies or our enemy attacks our mind, and persuades us through sly methods, that we are unaware of, to sin against God. Our battles are fought upstairs. We have to prepare ourselves mentally for the battles.
    II Corinthians 10:4
    For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;
No better way to prepare for that kind of battle than to be in the word and eat of it.
This tells me that we are right on track with what we are doing as a body, eating the word, to overcome and win the battle.

There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

At this point in their journey the Lord was so pleased that he gave them all that was spoken unto them, all the good things that were promised, it ALL came to pass. Don’t forget what God has promised you. He hasn’t forgotten! When my children obey the voice of their father, they get rewarded. It brings me the most pleasure as a father to give my children reward for being obedient. God takes delight in rewarding us for our obedience.
    1 Kings 11:24
Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:
    2 Corinthians 7:15
And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all,
    Romans 5:19
so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
    1 Samuel 18:14
And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the Lord was with him.

  6. Everything belongs to God. He gives us our possesions. He gives us our victory from our enemies. When all is said and done,When all the battles are won.he gives us our rest !!! God never forgets His promises. In verse 43 he swore a promise to the fathers, but the promise was fulfilled in the children.Getting impatient with God? We need to take a chill pill !! What we want now is instant success.Yes I am impatient too. But if God fulfills His promises through my children.Oh Happy man to my grave I will go !!
Lets pray for our kids without ceasing !! Amen !

  7. God is true to His promises,if it is in the book it will come to pass.We must stay faithful in all things and God will give everything He has promised us when the time is right.

  8. GODS WORD CANNOT FAIL

45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

In a society and life where TRUST is so easily broken, even the most faithful could find themselves questioning and wondering if GOD would honor what he said. We find here in Joshua, God is faithful and will keep HIS word, though it may take several hundred years.

IMPORTANT – Most of the delay of GOD’s WORD and PROMISE being fulfilled is a result of people’s unbelief and disobedience, not of GOD “making them wait”

The word of GOD is saturated with confirmation of GOD’s faithfulness, yet some will continue to question the faithfulness of GOD. Scriptures build my FAITH such as:

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

    Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

1Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

These scriptures are why I listen so intently for a WORD from GOD. IT will happen in JESUS name.

    iPray
    iWork
    iBelieve

  9. v45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel ; all came to pass.

GOD always keeps HIS WORD. What HE promises HE fulfills . This is very encouraging GOD will NEVER walk out on HIS promises which are ” Yea and Amen” in Christ Jesus
GOD’s word shows us the advantages of living righteously before Him.
His blessings and promises not only are manifest in prayer ( a relationship with Him)but also on our daily lives as well.
We will be a blessing to others Pr.10:11 ,20-21

GOD does not withhold good things from those who walk uprightly Ps.84:11

  10. 41All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.

42These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities.

43And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

It appears in this chapter that after each tribe was given their inheritance, then the inheritance was divided among the tribes into “portions” and each family was responsible for their suburb or portion. 44And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.

They were given dominion and authority over their land and the enemy was delivered into theier hand. God is speaking to POFW today that each of us live in our different communities “suburbs” and God has promised us that everywhere our feet touch He will give us that land. We need to start claiming our suburbs where we live in prayer and God will deliver the families in our neighborhoods into truth! Everyday we are praying the prayer, taking dominion by the aurhtority of God, the power in the name, the power in the blood, we should begin to start seeing fruit in our neighborhoods. Let’s win them for Jesus!

  11. Money, friends, health, wealth, the economy , the sun moon and stars may fail, but thank GOD we can rest in the In HIS FAITHFULNESS
    “GOD CANNOT DENY HIMSELF ”
    GOD ABIDETH FAITHFUL ! 2Tim. 2:13

  12. My heart is full today and i just want to pour out my heart in worship and respond to
    HIS FAITHFULNESS! GOD BLESS!

  13. Thank you JESUS for all that we are given and all that we are in YOU, JESUS!
    All because of YOUR FAITHFULNESS!
    iPRAISE

  14. v43 And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

The answer and key to Victory Is Service
Like Sis. Watts stated every tribe had a responsibility . Work. … Serving GOD without selfish or material motives. A service that would lift up and honor GOD.
A godly walk that carnal people will never under stand.
We serve HIM and Worship HIM because we love HIM and not because we are afraid.
    ” Why calleth me LORD?”. Lk.6: 46
To qualify :.. We must serve HIM FIRST before we can call HIM LORD.
    iServe
    iWork
    iPray
    iGive
    iWorship

  15. 45There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

What God says we can count on. What we say to others they should be able to trust. The word of God, or Logos in the Greek, means God’s expression of himself.

What God says is who God is. He never speaks anything that contradicts his character, or his nature.

What we say reveals who we are.

What does your word say about you?

  16. 45. There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

God is faithful to His word.

  17. God is still God today as He was back then. He is still delivering our enemies to our hands but in a different way. today we may have someone talking negative to us about serving God and God will delirver them into our hands by us standing still on what we have learned of God. He will bring those same people to their knees so that they will have to come back to the very same people that they have degraded for help. now i understand what the book of Jude is talking about when it says save some with compassion, because some will take advantage of that compassion as a sign of weakness. I also saw in the above ch. that God had many places for the refuge just as He has today and to me the church is the highest because when God told me of my place when i was trying to get away from the enemy He sent me to POFW and i felt like i needed to run to it

  18. I love the fact that they all willingly gave to the Levites, the tribe that was set a side for the service of the Tabernacle. There obedience brought blessings their way.

44 And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.

My God, My Avenger, My Jesus, He takes care of ALL our enemies.

  19. 44And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.

All of God’s promises are yea and amen unto his children, Israel had to follow & obey and God took care of their adversaries, thengave them rest on all side. (They still had to work the fields and dress the vineyards and care for the cattle to survive 🙂
So, when we follow and obey, we know that God will deliver our promises, quieting the enemy on all sides! Let us examine how we follow: for a time Israel murmured and complained every step of the way! Lord, let my following You be without complaint!

  20. 43And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

  21. This chapter illustrates giving. “There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.” We should never forget how much we have; family, health, substance and shelter. When we give (igive) and obey (ipray & iwork) God and his servant then we too will testify that you cannot out give (ireap) the Lord. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  22. Looks like to me that we are still moving into that New Church soon, God is faithful, and he certainly kept his word in regards to previous promises he made, Israel got theirs now it’s our turn. All came to pass, “Hummm I wonder what God has promised you or this Church!” With the New Covenant we have better promises…..thank you Jesus Christ, Amen. Ask, Seek, Knock, and the door shall be opened unto you. He will pour out a blessing that you can’t contain it, “Be a tyther” and watch what he’s going to do”. I don’t know about you but with all this WORK, I could use some rest and without enemies….devils, demons, evil spirits, or flesh and yes even some people that’s in your life currently, in which might be your training for a season.

    “Be Church”….iwork…ipray…igive…ireap….Mark A. Ridenour…..

  23. In this chapter it’s saying that when God blesses us He really does it well. Like when he found a place for the cattle also vs2
He not only blesses us but our house and sometimeour property. Thank you Lord for loving us enouph to show us your love for us and how you care for all our generations passed down to us. We are a chosen people. And I’m glad to be a chosen vessel He can use. Love Him.

  24. 3And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs.

It’s important to obey every word of God. We will never know what God has instore for us if we don’t follow his commandments and listen to his every word.

  25. iBlog lunch

44And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.

    The Rest Has Been Told

Thanks brother Jessie for sharing about the Rest.

For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. (Isaiah 28:11, 12 KJV)

For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. (Hebrews 4:8-11 KJV)

Notice it says, “If Jesus would have given them rest…” This is not talking about Jesus Christ, but Joshua.

Jesus gave us rest on the day of pentecost. When you speak in tongues… That is the refreshing. Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Acts 3:19 KJV)

  26. iBlog in the Midnight Hour…

45There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

God Spoke, It Came to Pass

20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

  27. 45There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

There is a time and season for all God has spoken, and He is faithful concerning His Word.

  28. Verses 43-45 in the MSG reads…”And so God gave Israel the entire land that he had solemnly vowed to give to their ancestors. They took possession of it and made themselves at home in it. And God gave them rest on all sides, as he had also solemnly vowed to their ancestors. Not a single one of their enemies was able to stand up to them—God handed over all their enemies to them. Not one word failed from all the good words God spoke to the house of Israel. Everything came out right.” If God said it, then we can believe that it will come to pass!

  29. 44And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.
45There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

All God’s promises will come to pass. The only question is wheater we choose to be a part or not…

  30. 44And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.

45There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

When we do what GOD tells us to do our fighting ends. The children of Isreal had rest. All was calm, the fighting ended and all their promises came to pass.

Imagine what would happen to PoFW if we would all do what GOD has told us to do. We would be at rest with those around us and we would have all our promises. New building, taking the city, healings, deliverances…
