Judges 2

1And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

2And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

3Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

4And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

5And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.

6And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.

7And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

8And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

9And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.

10And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

11And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:

12And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

13And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

14And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

15Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

16Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

17And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.

18And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented the LORD because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

19And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

20And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

21I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

22That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

23Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.

  1. Too often people follow God becasue of someone else’s “faith” and “belief”. We must be diligent to instill in others, especially or own children and friends the truth and power of following God and His Word and obeying his commandments.

  2. I have a son that goes to clubs and he always wants money from me but I know that it will go towards his drink(alcohol ).just like the Lord said He took the Isreal out of bondage and helped them but He was very angry cause they worshipped other gods after everything He did for them.I have helped my son many times but he doesn’t talk to me or see me. I have to leave it in God’s hands . I say this because I understand when God helps us out of situations then we keep doing wrong he loves us but I’m sure he gets angry or tired of us doing the same thing over and over. And to me that’s worshipping other gods. Well sorry to tell you these things but I’m upset with my situation and I understands why God is r

2And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

Most of us today will ponder the question…why didn’t they just do what the Lord told them to do? Most of us will say, “Well, I would have just listened to the Lord and I would have been blessed…”

If we “would have” obeyed then we have to evaluate ourselves today…What pagan altars are erected in our lives today? What “traditions and practices do we allow in our houses today that the Catholic Church adopted from the unbelievers at the counsel of Nicaea. They adopted traditions from Wiccans, witches and warlocks. Valentines Day, Easter, Christmas, Mardi Gras, ect. are all examples of pagan traditions and altars that have intermingled themselves together into our daily lives…

    The question is…

WHAT WOULD WE HAVE REALLY DONE?

the answer is easy…The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak

  4. 10And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

The generation who knew not the Lord did not fail. The generation before them failed to obey the law, talk about God, and live his principles.

In God’s mercy he let the enemy stay to push his people back to Him.

    or

    The generation knew not God.

    Know = relationship

21I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

22That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

  5. 10. And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

We must make sure the next generation knows the Lord and what he has done. If we don’t tell them, and instill in their hearts a love for God and His Word, they will become like the generation after Joshua and turn from the Lord and serve other gods.

    Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

  6. This chapter shows us the importance of teaching our children about God. We don’t want our kids growing up not knowing who God is. We live in a time where people are trying to remove God from everything. It’s going to take those that are truly sold out to God to spread the truth. Our children need to know who God is, so that truth can told to all generations.

  7. TROUBLE YOU CANNOT RUN FROM

11 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:
12 And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.

Why is it hard for some people to follow and obey the Lord? Why it difficult to fulfill the plan and call that God has set forth for us? Why do so many people submit to, follow, and worship idols (things) that have done nothing for them and can do nothing for them? If we give ourselves; time, talent, and treasure to anything other than the one who created the heavens and the earth, overcame sin, and died for us to fill us with HIS Holy Spirit we do evil in the sight of the LORD.

Place GOD first in our lives in everything we do. This is the result of failure to drive out the inhabitants of their land. They became familiar with the idols and other gods and “didn’t see what it would hurt or what was wrong with them.

The wrong is found in the judgement of God.

14 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
15 Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

What do you do when the Creator, the all seeing eye, the everlasting arm of God is against you? Everything they attempted to accomplish failed. This is TROUBLE YOU CANNOT RUN FROM.

We can turn it around! Proverbs 16:7 When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Obey the LORD and watch your enemies fall!

    iPray
    iWork

  8. 2.-and ye shall make. O league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars:but ye have not obey my voice:why have ye done this?
—God in his mercy gives us warnings,he lets us know our ways,he lets us know If we are headin the wrong direction,(if we are living in sin)
4.- and it came to pass when the angel of the Lord,Spake all these words to the children of Israel, thal the people lifted up their voice and repent.
How sad (terrible) is she we recognize that God is trying to discipline us,because he loves us,and care for us, and do not do anything about it,to me,it’s like they were playing games, yes they wept but they didn’t quit their ways( so unpredictable people)…
10.- and also all the generation were gathered unto thieir fathers, and there arose another generation after them which knew not the Lord.nor yet the works which he had done for Israel…..
And this is the result of someone’s disovidience, revelions against God:a generation that do what pleases their flesh!

    Judges 2
For my opinion, calls us to really repent of our own fleshy ways, and really start walking in the spirit….

  9. Verse 10 There arose a generation that knew not the Lord… Some were during the raising up of these children there was a failure to teach them the ways of God and the wonders he had done. As parents and leaders it is our duty to teach the ways of God to each.generation of believers so that God will keep perpetual blessings flowing in our lives.

  10. 2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?

3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

In this world but not part of it!! God’s people set a side, holy, separate! We should not allow the world & their gods to come into our home; for the slightest influence will lead you away from God & the battles with it will become a thorn on your side.

  11. 17And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.

Verse 17 shows that this next generation seem to have been given judges that taught the True way but choose not to follow in the True way. Their heart was not in it. The Lord has given us Pastor to teach us the True way ( so thankful for “Eat this book” series). The Lord wants our heart because that’s when we begin to truly know (intimacy relationship) Him.

Mat 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

This morning I was researching on the Catholic/Pagan covenant. Comes to find out, the pope has a scepter in his hand with the image of the sun on it. When he holds out that scepter during communion, a person is required to bow…(lunch break is over :(. ) wow, talk about worship of the sun god…

I would say that these lil gods are still around… Only they have other names they go by.

      • Baʿal (Biblical Hebrew בעל, pronounced [ˈbaʕal], usually spelled Baal in English) is a Northwest Semitic title and honorific meaning “master” or “lord”[1] that is used for various gods who were patrons of cities in the Levant and Asia Minor, cognate to Akkadian Bēlu. A Baalist or Baalite means a worshipper of Baal.

“Baʿal” can refer to any god and even to human officials; in some texts it is used as a substitute for Hadad, a god of the rain, thunder, fertility and agriculture, and the lord of Heaven. Since only priests were allowed to utter his divine name, Hadad, Ba‛al was commonly used. Nevertheless, few if any Biblical uses of “Baʿal” refer to Hadad, the lord over the assembly of gods on the holy mount of Heaven, but rather refer to any number of local spirit-deities worshipped as cult images, each called baʿal and regarded in the Hebrew Bible in that context as a false god.

      • Ashtoreth

        The Queen of Heaven

Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance: Hebrew and Chaldee Dictionary:
“6252. Ashtarowth … or Ashtaroth … the name of a Sidonian diety … : —Ashtaroth.”
“6253. Ashtoreth … the Phoenician goddess of love (and increase): —Ashtoreth.”

        Webster’s New World College Dictionary:
“Astarte … a Semitic goddess of fertility and sexual love, worshiped by the Phoenicians and others: see also ASHTORETH, ISHTAR.”
“Ashtoreth … the ancient Phoenician and Syrian goddess of love and fertility: identified with ASTARTE.”
“Ishtar … see ASHTORETH … the goddess of love, fertility, and war.”

        Encyclopedia Britannica:
“Astarte/Ashtoreth is the Queen of Heaven to whom the Canaanites had burned incense and poured libations.”

        Soul Vision website:
“Known by many names, across time and space, Lilith or Eve, Anath and Asherah, Astarte, the Queen of Heaven, the Shekhinah and the Matronit…. No matter Her name, she was loved.”

        Shekhina Hebrew Goddess website:
“Shekhina [is] the Hebrew Goddess of the Kabbala.”

        Encyclopedia Britannica:
“Ishtar is the Akkadian counterpart of the West Semitic goddess Astarte.”

        Encyclopedia Britannica:
“Through her identification with the Greek Aphrodite and the Roman Venus, Inanna-Ishtar, the queen of heaven, still survives in Roman Catholic iconography – e.g., as the Virgin Mary standing on the moon.”

Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, 1894:
“Queen of Heaven with the ancient Phoenicians, was Astarte; Greeks, Hera; Romans, Juno; Trivia, Hecate, Diana, the Egyptian Isis, etc., were all so called; but with the Roman Catholics it is the Virgin Mary.”

        Temple of the Temptress:
“Diana was called the Mother goddess and Queen of heaven, just as Mary is called Mother of god and queen of heaven.”

      • Easter

They Worshipped the Sun Toward the East

        Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary:
“Easter … estre … eastre … ostarun … from the prehistoric West Germanic name of a pagan spring festival.”

        Easton’s Bible Dictionary:
“Easter, originally a Saxon word (Eostre), denoting a goddess of the Saxons.”

        Encyclopedia Britannica:
“The Anglo-Saxon priest Venerable Bede in the 8th century derived [the English name Easter] from the Anglo-Saxon spring goddess Eostre.”

Dictionary of Phrase and Fable, 1894:
“Easter. The Saxon goddess of the east, whose festival was held in the spring.”

        Catholic Encyclopedia:
“The English term [Easter] … relates to Estre, a Teutonic goddess of the rising light of day and spring … Anglo-Saxon, easter, eastron; Old High German, ostra, ostrara, ostrarun; German, Ostern.”

        The Two Babylons:
“Easter is nothing else than Astarte … the queen of heaven, whose name, as pronounced by the people Nineveh, was evidently identical with that now in common use in this country.”

        International Standard Bible Encyclopedia:
“EASTER … The English word comes from the Anglo-Saxon Eastre or Estera, a Teutonic goddess to whom sacrifice was offered in April, so the name was transferred to the pashcal feast. The word does not properly occur in Scripture, although the Authorized Version has it in Acts 12:4 where it stands for Passover, as it is rightly rendered in the Revised Standard Version.”

  12. Vs10 There is a whole generation that didn’t know the Lord or what he had done for Israel. I want to teach my children the ways of the Lord.

  13. Vs. 10, ” And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.”

Didn’t we hear a message once on The Lost Generation? All I want to say is WITNESS, WITNESS, WITNESS and we won’t lose another generation. Let’s tell others about the goodness of Jesus and all he has done for us.

  14. i have read and listen to this chapter several time and i can figure out if they did or didnt teach the people or if they were to hard headed to listen somtimes we hear but we dont listen .we need to iseek to show are selfs aproved . ilearn or meleaening

  15. V.10 When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which he had done for Israel. It saddenes me to hear that a generation did not acknowledge the Lord. It is to me very important not to keep my mouth shut about the Lord and His word. I must testify and share, so that others may hear and believe that may be converted. That they may live and not die.

  16. v22 That through them I may prove Israel , whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it , or not.

The Israelites found themselves alone, uncertain ,inexperienced, vulnerable, surrounded, and out numbered
because of a lack of total obedience.
GOD will prove ( test) us too. Not to see what’s in our brain, but in our hearts
We just never know when GOD might give us a pop quiz test.
Are we going to slump and fail the exam or stand tall when tested.
We must also not forget to tell our children what our Great GOD has is and doing for us.
GOD will do it for them, too.
Our GOD is one LORD one Baptism one faith
and HE is alive forever more!
You never waste anything you give the LORD
When you lay it at JESUS feet.

  17. v12 And they forsook the LORD GOD of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them , and provoked the LORD to anger.

This verse brings two scriptures to mind
Matt.6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one,and love the other; or else hd will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve GOD and mammon.

We find good advise in Proverbs 13:20
Hanging out with the wrong crowd will cause us to fail and provoke the LORD to anger.
Pr.13:20 He that waketh with wise men shall be wise; but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

  18. 19And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.
    20And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;
21I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

This passage reminded me of the scripture were it talks about how if you fall the devils are 7x stronger.

the other thing is this. God was so angry at the children of Isreal that He stopped protecting them and stopped helping them in battles. How scared I would be to know that the God that I serve would not be protecting me. Yet this is what happens when we sin. It separates us from Him,but we have the opprotunity to make it right. All we have to do is truly repent and turn around.

  19. 21I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

22That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

23Therefore the LORD left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.

There was a plan, there was a test in motion even though they didn’t understand it. Judges where appointed and Israel followed the Lord under them until they passed and a generation after them rose up and didn’t know the Lord. Sounds a bit similar to Joseph being 2nd in command in Egpypt but after they passed on, the next Pharoh didn’t “know” Joseph. I wish some people would cry out for some knowledge ,understanding and wisdom, I do it on the daily. How would Israel’s perdicament have been different if they had too?

Prv 2:3Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Prv 14:33Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

  20. 10And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

For the next generation to know nothing of the works of God that got them from Egypt to their promised land means that parents got so busy from being blessed that they stopped honoring God for all they had. They failed to give them the historical accounts of battles won and food provided.

12And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger

Parents must train up the child to know God and teach them when they come in, go out, sit to eat, and so forth according to scripture.

  21. wow this says a lot. the new generation who did not know the Lord but was told to obey the commandments did what they wanted to do. now i have in the past did my own thing even though i knew it was not pleasing to God but when God spoke to me and told me that He loved me and ask me had i had enough and i said yes God the pain is too great to bare alone and i confessed to Him that i needed Him, God speaks through our conscious. God sent judges and the children still did not obey. i do believe that God will let you have what you want, that is for a while ,and if people want the world after God has sent His angles/judges and continue to refuse the Love of God, then God will take His hand off of you, but because their are praying moms, dads, aunts, uncles and grandparents that are interceding for that loved one, God extends His love, mercy and grace.

  22. 1.). . . . . I will never break my covenant with you.
Lets keep our relationship with God without being convienent needing him when were in trouble expecting him to have mercy on us or bless us when we want it.

  23. This chapter illustrates yesterday. “And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.” Someone prayed (ipray) and gave (igive) and worked (iwork), so that we might hear the Word and have an opportunity to reap (ireap) salvation from the Lord Jesus. We must also; pray, give and work so that others may reap the gift of the Holy Ghost (Jesus) today before it becomes yesterday, which may be too late. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  24. I was amazed that only one generation after the people(the kids), that crossed the sea and saw many miracles in their way to be saved, after them their generation was corrupted and had idols!
    They provoked God:
21 I also will not henceforth drive out any from beforethemofcthe nations which Joshua left when he died:
22 that through th I may prove Israel whether they will keep the way of the Lord to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
Lord knows everything about us, sometimes
We could continue in some problem or trouble, because He knows its the only way to keep us in track.
    Jesus help me!

  25. 10 After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the LORD or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel. (NLT)

We as a new generation, especially us youth and children who will grow into our elder’s places, must never forget what God has done for us or his people. We must never turn away from Him but always acknowledge Him and listen and do His commands.

  26. In this scripture, it is important to catch the seriousness of staying in covenant with God and listening to what he says and obeying. We could avoid a series of hardships by just sticking with God. You can see he will punish his children, and Grace is not a license to sin. He is also a very jealous God. So you will reap what you sow, and that’s why they received the thorns/curses in their lives. I hope to become a better listener with obediance and application of God’s Word. We all want to be close to him, and in right relationship with him. He is Love, and love never fails, love covereth all sin. So, take a look at these for referance to that solution.

    Psalm 73:28
    Isaiah 1:18-19
    Psalm 103:3:12

There are many other referances as you well know.

  27. 2 And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
4 And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
5 And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.

I find it interesting that the word of the Lord and his pronouncement of judgement would bring the children of Israel to tears but not to repentance.

Though they would serve the Lord as long as Joshua and the Elders of his generation lived as soon as they died the nation would turn and follow after their own lust.

The apostolic movement has seen some great elders depart this life over the last few years. The next generation would do well to remember their sacrifices.

Verse 4 says they lifted up their voices and wept. Weeping alone won’t do it; we must obey the Word of Truth that was delivered to the saints.

    Proper Name Location bo-keem’
    pl. active participle of (01058)
plural active participle of ; (with the article) the weepers; Bo-kim, a place in Palestine:–Bochim.
    Bochim = “weeping”
a place near Gilgal (or Bethel), where sons of Israel wept

And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father. -Genesis 27:34

Even though Esau’s tears moved his father the birthright was still given to another.

  28. 20And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

This chapter reveals what happens when people become self centered…they turn from the ways of the Lord and begin filling themselves with pleasures of the world. We don’t realize how we become intoxicated with the things of the world, that it causes us to become enamoured with the world and go whoring after other gods. Lord, help us to keep our focus and our eyes on Jesus and off things that bring pleasure to our flesh.

  29. Vs 15 MSG Every time they walked out the door God was with them—but for evil, just as God had said, just as he had sworn he would do. They were in a bad way.

“The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect, over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked; his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire; he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight; you are ten thousand times more abominable in his eyes, than the most hateful venemous serpent is in ours. You have offended him infinitely more than ever a stubborn rebel did his prince: and yet, it is nothing but his hand that holds you from falling into the fire every moment. It is to be ascribed to nothing else, that you did not go to hell the last night; that you were suffered to wake again in this world, after you closed your eyes to sleep. And there is no other reason to be given, why you have not dropped into hell since you arose in the morning, but that God’s hand has held you up. There is no other reason to be given why you have not gone to hell, since you have sat here in the house of God, provoking his pure eyes by your sinful wicked manner of attending his solemn worship. Yea, there is nothing else that is to be given as a reason why you do not this very moment drop down into hell.” taken from sinners in the hands of an angry God.

Even when God is moved to wrath against us realize that you are still on his mind and as Abraham asked for Sodom, and God heard him, so God can still hear you if you will serve him

  30. Even In there sin God shows his great mercy punishing a cycle of false worship but still sending someone to try to teach them right. He never gave up hope on his people even when they gave up on him.

  31. v 19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

    Israel’s continual rebellion against GOD
“For rebellion is as a sin of witchcraft , and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry
    1Sam.15:23
    A violation of GOD’S commandments

  32. 20And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

21I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

22That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

Israel failed in keeping with God’s plan, and things that should have been stepping stones became possible stumbling stones to try Israel because they didn’t take care of business like God told them to in the first place. Our God is a God a second chances, but getting a second chance doesn’t mean we will regain the full opportunity of the first.

  33. Wow! Verse 15 is eye opening, to
Make God so angry that his hand was against you! That should be the most humbling warning to any servant of God. Too many people get caught up wanting their own will for their lives and seeing the result of that definitely makes me step back and evaluate my actions. We must die daily and follow his commandments!

    iHumble

  34. 1And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.

An appearance of God in a form made by the human senses. Moses and Hagar seen a manifestation and God appeared to them that he was the One who has met their needs during the trying times.

IPRAY God reveals himself through me and uses me to help win souls to Him.

  35. for it repented the Lord because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

    Repented the Lord:

to be sorry, console oneself, repent, regret, comfort, be comforted
    a) (Niphal)
    1) to be sorry, be moved to pity, have compassion
    2) to be sorry, rue, suffer grief, repent
    3) to comfort oneself, be comforted
    4) to comfort oneself, ease oneself
    b) (Piel) to comfort, console
    c) (Pual) to be comforted, be consoled
    d) (Hithpael)
    1) to be sorry, have compassion
    2) to rue, repent of
    3) to comfort oneself, be comforted
    4) to ease oneself

When we complain about the journey that god had us on it repents the Lord. It makes him suffer grief, or regret. I don’t want the Lord to suffer grief or regret for me. You get to heavens gates and the Lord says to you ” I have repented for you, I have suffered much grief for you, I regret you. Wow that’s not what I expect.

Obey the Lord and be happy with the journey.
    Romans 8;28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

    iWork

  36. This chapter showed me how important it is to teach my children as my parents taught me and their parents taught them. I thank God that I was fortunate to have this in my life; but, if you are the first of these generations, it is so important to begin this cycle now; so, that future generations will not depart from the ways of the Lord.

It is also very important to remember that it is your responsibility as a new generation to love, honor and make your OWN commitment to follow Jesus.

  37. When God tells you to do something and you do not obey you have to pay the consequences. God told them to drive out the other people from the land and to knock down their gods. They choose not to obey and they were told that God would not rid the land of the people and they would have a hard time overcoming thier gods.

When we are told to do something and we don’t listen to God we too risk falling to the other gods we won’t get rid of. We know well that God is a jealious God. He does not stand for us to have anyother gods. That is why we are told on MANY occasions that we should love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind.

How many thorns do we have in our sides because we won’t just follow God’s commands?

19And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

    20And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;

Don’t forget your past. Listen to God. There is only one God and we should only worship Him!
